1No reprendas a un hombre que es mayor que tú. Por el contrario, anímalo como si fuera tu padre. Trata a los hombres más jóvenes como hermanos,
2a las mujeres mayores que tú como madres; a las más jóvenes como hermanas, con los estándares más altos de decencia.
3Ayuda a las viudas que no tienen familia.
4Pues la responsabilidad cristiana de los hijos o nietos de una viuda es cumplir con las obligaciones que exige su familia, y pagar a sus padres ayudándolos. Esto es lo que agrada a Dios.
5Ahora pues, una verdadera viuda, que no tiene familia, que está sola y sin apoyo de nadie, pone su esperanza en Dios y ora pidiendo ayuda día y noche.
6Pero una viuda que solo se concentra en agradarse a sí misma, ya está muerta, aunque esté viva físicamente.
7Da estas instrucciones a la gente para que estén por encima de cualquier crítica.
8Pero los que no cuidan de sus parientes, especialmente de su propia familia, han negado sus creencias, y son peores que los incrédulos.
9Solo las viudas mayores de sesenta años que han sido fieles a sus esposos deben estar en la lista.
10La viuda debe tener reputación de hacer el bien. ¿Crió a sus hijos apropiadamente? ¿Ha sido hospitalaria? ¿Ha lavado los pies de otros miembros de la iglesia? ¿Ha ayudado a aquellos que estaban en dificultad? ¿Ha procurado hacer el bien en todas las formas?
11No anoten a las viudas que son más jóvenes, porque cuando sus deseos físicos les despierten el deseo por casarse, abandonarán su dedicación a Cristo.
12En esto ellas son culpables de quebrantar su compromiso anterior.
13Además ellas se acostumbran a una vida de pereza, donde simplemente se visitan unas a otras en sus casas. No solo son perezosas, sino que andan en chismes y se entrometen hablando de cosas que no deberían.
14Así que mi mejor consejo es que las viudas que son más jóvenes se casen y tengan hijos y se ocupen del hogar. Así no habrá oportunidad para la crítica que proviene del Enemigo.
15Sin embargo, algunos ya se han ido por el camino de Satanás.
16Toda mujer cristiana que tenga viudas en la familia debe ayudarlas, para que la iglesia no reciba la carga de tal responsabilidad y pueda ayudar a las viudas que realmente están en necesidad.
17Los ancianos que dirigen la iglesia deberían ser considerados como doblemente valiosos, especialmente aquellos cuya obra es la predicación de la palabra y la enseñanza.
18Como dice la Escritura: “No le pondrás bozal al buey cuando está trillando el trigo”. También dice: “El obrero merece su pago”.
19No consideres ninguna acusación en contra de un anciano a menos que existan dos o tres testigos que la apoyen.
20Censura frente a todos los demás a los que pecan, como una advertencia para los otros también.
21Ante Dios y Cristo Jesús, y ante los santos ángeles, yo te instruyo con estas indicaciones sin prejuicio alguno. No actúes con favoritismo.
22No te apresures a imponer tus manos sobre ninguno; y no participes en los pecados de los otros. Mantente puro.
23No bebas solamente agua, sino añade un poco de vino, por tu mal de estómago, pues te enfermas muy seguido.
24Los pecados de algunas personas son muy evidentes, y sin duda alguna son culpables, pero los pecados de otros no se logran ver hasta después.
25Del mismo modo, algunas buenas obras son evidentes, e incluso las que están ocultas no seguirán así por mucho tiempo.

1NO reprendas al anciano, sino exhórtale como á padre: á los más jóvenes, como á hermanos;
2A las ancianas, como á madres; á las jovencitas, como á hermanas, con toda pureza.
3Honra á las viudas que en verdad son viudas.
4Pero si alguna viuda tuviere hijos, ó nietos, aprendan primero á gobernar su casa piadosamente, y á recompensar á sus padres: porque esto es lo honesto y agradable delante de Dios.
5Ahora, la que en verdad es viuda y solitaria, espera en Dios, y es diligente en suplicaciones y oraciones noche y día.
6Pero la que vive en delicias, viviendo está muerta.
7Denuncia pues estas cosas, para que sean sin reprensión.
8Y si alguno no tiene cuidado de los suyos, y mayormente de los de su casa, la fe negó, y es peor que un infiel.
9La viuda sea puesta en clase especial, no menos que de sesenta años, que haya sido esposa de un solo marido.
10Que tenga testimonio en buenas obras; si crió hijos; si ha ejercitado la hospitalidad; si ha lavado los pies de los santos; si ha socorrido á los afligidos; si ha seguido toda buena obra.
11Pero viudas más jóvenes no admitas: porque después de hacerse licenciosas contra Cristo, quieren casarse.
12Condenadas ya, por haber falseado la primera fe.
13Y aun también se acostumbran á ser ociosas, á andar de casa en casa; y no solamente ociosas, sino también parleras y curiosas, hablando lo que no conviene.
14Quiero pues, que las que son jóvenes se casen, críen hijos, gobiernen la casa; que ninguna ocasión den al adversario para maldecir.
15Porque ya algunas han vuelto atrás en pos de Satanás.
16Si algún fiel ó alguna fiel tiene viudas, manténgalas, y no sea gravada la iglesia; á fin de que haya lo suficiente para las que de verdad son viudas.
17Los ancianos que gobiernan bien, sean tenidos por dignos de doblada honra; mayormente los que trabajan en predicar y enseñar.
18Porque la Escritura dice: No embozarás al buey que trilla; y: Digno es el obrero de su jornal.
19Contra el anciano no recibas acusación sino con dos ó tres testigos.
20A los que pecaren, repréndelos delante de todos, para que los otros también teman.
21Te requiero delante de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y de sus ángeles escogidos, que guardes estas cosas sin perjuicio de nadie, que nada hagas inclinándote á la una parte.
22No impongas de ligero las manos á ninguno, ni comuniques en pecados ajenos: consérvate en limpieza.
23No bebas de aquí adelante agua, sino usa de un poco de vino por causa del estómago, y de tus continuas enfermedades.
24Los pecados de algunos hombres, antes que vengan ellos á juicio, son manifiestos; mas á otros les vienen después.
25Asimismo las buenas obras antes son manifiestas; y las que son de otra manera, no pueden esconderse.

1Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
3Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.
5Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
10Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
17Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
19Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.
20Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
21I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
22Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
23Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
24Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
25Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise can not be hid.

12having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
13Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
14I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.
15For already some have turned away after Satan.
16If any man or woman who believes has widows, let them relieve them, and don’t let the assembly be burdened, that it might relieve those who are widows indeed.
17Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
18For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.” And, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
19Don’t receive an accusation against an elder except at the word of two or three witnesses.
20Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
21I command you in the sight of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
22Lay hands hastily on no one. Don’t be a participant in other people’s sins. Keep yourself pure.
23Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.
24Some men’s sins are evident, preceding them to judgment, and some also follow later.
25In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise can’t be hidden.
