1Und Rehabeam ging nach Sichem; denn ganz Israel war nach Sichem gekommen, um ihn zum König zu machen.
2Und es geschah, als Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, es hörte (er war aber in Ägypten, wohin er vor dem König Salomo geflohen war), da kehrte Jerobeam aus Ägypten zurück.
3Und sie sandten hin und riefen ihn. Und Jerobeam und ganz Israel kamen und redeten zu Rehabeam und sprachen:
4Dein Vater hat unser Joch hart gemacht; und nun erleichtere den harten Dienst deines Vaters und sein schweres Joch, das er auf uns gelegt hat, so wollen wir dir dienen.
5Und er sprach zu ihnen: Noch drei Tage, dann kommet wieder zu mir. Und das Volk ging hin.
6Und der König Rehabeam beriet sich mit den Alten, die vor seinem Vater Salomo gestanden hatten, als er noch am Leben war, und sprach: Wie ratet ihr, diesem Volke Antwort zu geben?
7Und sie redeten zu ihm und sprachen: Wenn du gegen dieses Volk gütig und ihnen gefällig bist und gütige Worte zu ihnen redest, so werden sie deine Knechte sein alle Tage.
8Aber er verließ den Rat der Alten, den sie ihm gegeben hatten; und er beriet sich mit den Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, die vor ihm standen.
9Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was ratet ihr, daß wir diesem Volke zur Antwort geben, welches zu mir geredet und gesagt hat: Erleichtere das Joch, das dein Vater auf uns gelegt hat?
10Und die Jungen, die mit ihm aufgewachsen waren, redeten zu ihm und sprachen: So sollst du zu dem Volke sprechen, das zu dir geredet und gesagt hat: Dein Vater hat unser Joch schwer gemacht, du aber erleichtere es uns; so sollst du zu ihnen reden: Mein kleiner Finger ist dicker als die Lenden meines Vaters!
11Nun denn, mein Vater hat euch ein schweres Joch aufgeladen, ich aber will zu eurem Joche hinzutun; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.
12Und Jerobeam und alles Volk kamen zu Rehabeam am dritten Tage, so wie der König geredet und gesagt hatte: Kommet am dritten Tage wieder zu mir.
13Und der König antwortete ihnen hart; und der König Rehabeam verließ den Rat der Alten,
14und redete zu ihnen nach dem Rate der Jungen und sprach: Mein Vater hat euer Joch schwer gemacht, ich aber will zu demselben hinzutun; mein Vater hat euch mit Geißeln gezüchtigt, ich aber will euch mit Skorpionen züchtigen.
15So hörte der König nicht auf das Volk; denn es war eine Wendung von seiten Gottes, auf daß Jehova sein Wort aufrecht hielte, welches er durch Achija, den Siloniter, zu Jerobeam, dem Sohne Nebats, geredet hatte.
16Und als ganz Israel sah, daß der König nicht auf sie hörte, da antwortete das Volk dem König und sprach: Was haben wir für Teil an David? Und wir haben kein Erbteil am Sohne Isais! Ein jeder zu seinen Zelten, Israel! Nun sieh nach deinem Hause, David! Und ganz Israel ging nach seinen Zelten.
17Die Kinder Israel aber, die in den Städten Judas wohnten, über sie wurde Rehabeam König.
18Und der König Rehabeam sandte Hadoram, der über die Fron war; aber die Kinder Israel steinigten ihn, und er starb. Da eilte der König Rehabeam, den Wagen zu besteigen, um nach Jerusalem zu fliehen.
19So fiel Israel vom Hause Davids ab bis auf diesen Tag.

1Y ROBOAM fué á Sichêm porque en Sichêm se había juntado todo Israel para hacerlo rey.
2Y como lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el cual estaba en Egipto, donde había huído á causa del rey Salomón, volvió de Egipto.
3Y enviaron y llamáronle. Vino pues Jeroboam, y todo Israel, y hablaron á Roboam, diciendo:
4Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo: afloja tú, pues, ahora algo de la dura servidumbre, y del grave yugo con que tu padre nos apremió, y te serviremos.
5Y él les dijo: Volved á mí de aquí á tres días. Y el pueblo se fué.
6Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los viejos, que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y díjoles: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda á este pueblo?
7Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si te condujeres humanamente con este pueblo, y los agradares, y les hablares buenas palabras, ellos te servirán perpetuamente.
8Mas él, dejando el consejo que le dieron los viejos, tomó consejo con los mancebos que se habían criado con él, y que delante de él asistían;
9Y díjoles: ¿Qué aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos á este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo: Alivia algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?
10Entonces los mancebos que se habían criado con él, le hablaron, diciendo: Así dirás al pueblo que te ha hablado diciendo, Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, mas tú descárganos: así les dirás: Lo más menudo mío es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.
11Así que, mi padre os cargó de grave yugo, y yo añadiré á vuestro yugo: mi padre os castigó con azotes, y yo con escorpiones.
12Vino pues Jeroboam con todo el pueblo á Roboam al tercer día: según el rey les había mandado diciendo: Volved á mí de aquí á tres días.
13Y respondióles el rey ásperamente; pues dejó el rey Roboam el consejo de los viejos,
14Y hablóles conforme al consejo de los mancebos, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, y yo añadiré á vuestro yugo: mi padre os castigó con azotes, y yo con escorpiones.
15Y no escuchó el rey al pueblo; porque la causa era de Dios, para cumplir Jehová su palabra que había hablado, por Ahías Silonita, á Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.
16Y viendo todo Israel que el rey no les había oído, respondió el pueblo al rey, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David, ni herencia en el hijo de Isaí? ¡Israel, cada uno á sus estancias! ¡David, mira ahora por tu casa! Así se fué todo Israel á sus estancias.
17Mas reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que habitaban en las ciudades de Judá.
18Envió luego el rey Roboam á Adoram, que tenía cargo de los tributos; pero le apedrearon los hijos de Israel, y murió. Entonces se esforzó el rey Roboam, y subiendo en un carro huyó á Jerusalem.
19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

1And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
3And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,
4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
5And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.
6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
9And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
10And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.
11For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.
13And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,
14And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
15So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.
17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

1Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
2When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
3They sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
4“Your father made our yoke grievous. Now therefore make the grievous service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
5He said to them, “Come again to me after three days.” So the people departed.
6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me about how to answer these people?”
7They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
8But he abandoned the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may give an answer to these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”
10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
13The king answered them roughly; and King Rehoboam abandoned the counsel of the old men,
14and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about by God, that the LORD might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
18Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19So Israel rebelled against David’s house to this day.
