1*La dix-huitième année du roi Jéroboam, Abija commença de régner sur Juda.
2Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem ; et le nom de sa mère était Micaïa, fille d’Uriel, de Guibha. Et il y eut guerre entre Abija et Jéroboam.
3Et Abija commença la guerre avec une armée d’hommes de guerre, de 400 000 hommes d’élite ; et Jéroboam se rangea en bataille contre lui avec 800 000 hommes d’élite, forts et vaillants.
4Et Abija se tint sur le haut de la montagne de Tsemaraïm, qui est dans la montagne d’Éphraïm, et dit : Écoutez-moi, Jéroboam et tout Israël !
5N’est-ce pas à vous de savoir que l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, a donné à David la royauté sur Israël pour toujours, à lui et à ses fils, par une alliance de sel ?
6Et Jéroboam, fils de Nebath, serviteur de Salomon, fils de David, s’est levé, et s’est révolté contre son seigneur ;
7et des hommes de rien, des fils de Bélial, se sont assemblés vers lui ; et ils se sont fortifiés contre Roboam, fils de Salomon ; et Roboam était jeune et craintif ; et il ne s’est pas montré fort devant eux.
8Et maintenant vous pensez vous montrer forts contre le royaume de l’Éternel, qui est dans la main des fils de David, et vous êtes une grande multitude, et vous avez avec vous les veaux d’or que Jéroboam vous a faits pour [être vos] dieux.
9N’avez-vous pas chassé les sacrificateurs de l’Éternel, les fils d’Aaron, et les lévites ? Et vous vous êtes fait des sacrificateurs, comme les peuples des [autres] pays ; quiconque est venu avec un jeune taureau et sept béliers, pour être consacré, est devenu sacrificateur de ce qui n’est pas Dieu.
10Mais pour nous, l’Éternel est notre Dieu, et nous ne l’avons pas abandonné ; et des sacrificateurs, fils d’Aaron, servent l’Éternel, et les lévites sont à leurs fonctions ;
11et chaque matin et chaque soir, ils font fumer les holocaustes à l’Éternel, et l’encens de drogues odoriférantes ; et [nous avons] les pains rangés sur la table pure, et le chandelier d’or et ses lampes pour brûler chaque soir, car nous, nous faisons l’acquit de la charge que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a confiée ; mais vous, vous l’avez abandonné.
12Et voici, nous avons avec nous, à notre tête, Dieu et ses sacrificateurs, et les trompettes au son éclatant, pour sonner avec éclat contre vous. Fils d’Israël, ne faites pas la guerre contre l’Éternel, le Dieu de vos pères ; car vous ne réussirez pas !
13Mais Jéroboam fit prendre un détour à une embuscade pour venir derrière eux ; et ils étaient devant Juda, et l’embuscade était derrière eux.
14Et Juda se tourna, et voici, la bataille était contre eux, devant et derrière ; et ils crièrent à l’Éternel, et les sacrificateurs sonnèrent des trompettes ;
15et les hommes de Juda jetèrent des cris ; et il arriva, comme les hommes de Juda jetaient des cris, que Dieu frappa Jéroboam et tout Israël, devant Abija et Juda.
16Et les fils d’Israël s’enfuirent devant Juda, et Dieu les livra en leurs mains.
17Et Abija et son peuple leur infligèrent une grande défaite, et il tomba d’Israël 500 000 hommes d’élite blessés à mort.
18Et les fils d’Israël furent humiliés en ce temps-là, et les fils de Juda furent affermis, car ils s’appuyaient sur l’Éternel, le Dieu de leurs pères.
19Et Abija poursuivit Jéroboam et lui prit des villes : Béthel et les villages de son ressort, et Jeshana et les villages de son ressort, et Éphron et les villages de son ressort.
20Et Jéroboam n’eut plus de force durant les jours d’Abija ; et l’Éternel le frappa, et il mourut.
21Et Abija s’affermit, et prit 14 femmes, et engendra 22 fils et 16 filles.
22Et le reste des actes d’Abija, et ses voies et ses paroles, sont écrits dans les commentaires d’Iddo le prophète.
23*Et Abija s’endormit avec ses pères, et on l’enterra dans la ville de David. Et Asa, son fils, régna à sa place. De ses jours, le pays fut en repos pendant dix ans.

1A LOS dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.
2Y reinó tres años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Michâía hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.
3Entonces ordenó Abías batalla con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil hombres de guerra valerosos y escogidos: y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.
4Y levantóse Abías sobre el monte de Semaraim, que es en los montes de Ephraim, y dijo: Oidme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.
5¿No sabéis vosotros, que Jehová Dios de Israel dió el reino á David sobre Israel para siempre, á él y á sus hijos en alianza de sal?
6Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y rebeló contra su señor.
7Y se allegaron á él hombres vanos, hijos de iniquidad, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era mozo y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.
8Y ahora vosotros tratáis de fortificaros contra el reino de Jehová en mano de los hijos de David, porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.
9¿No echasteis vosotros á los sacerdotes de Jehová, á los hijos de Aarón, y á los Levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes á la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga á consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?
10Mas en cuanto á nosotros, Jehová es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado: y los sacerdotes que ministran á Jehová son los hijos de Aarón, y los Levitas en la obra;
11Los cuales queman á Jehová los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y los perfumes aromáticos; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus candilejas para que ardan cada tarde: porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza de Jehová nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.
12Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por cabeza, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas del júbilo para que suenen contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.
13Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir á ellos por la espalda: y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba á espaldas de Judá.
14Y como miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla delante y á las espaldas; por lo que clamaron á Jehová, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas.
15Entonces los de Judá alzaron grita; y así que ellos alzaron grita, Dios desbarató á Jeroboam y á todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá:
16Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.
17Y Abías y su gente hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.
18Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo: mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
19Y siguió Abías á Jeroboam, y tomóle algunas ciudades, á Beth-el con sus aldeas, á Jesana con sus aldeas, y á Ephraim con sus aldeas.
20Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías: é hirióle Jehová, y murió.
21Empero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.
22Lo demás de los hechos de Abías, sus caminos y sus negocios, está escrito en la historia de Iddo profeta.

1Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
2He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
4And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;
5Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
6Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
7And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
8And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
9Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
10But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
11And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.
12And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
13But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
14And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
17And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
18Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
19And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
20Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
21But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
22And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.

3Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.
4Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:
5Ought you not to know that the LORD, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

7Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.
8“Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.
9Haven’t you driven out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.
10“But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.
11They burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of the LORD our God, but you have forsaken him.
12Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”
13But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
