1Im achtzehnten Jahre des Königs Jerobeam, da wurde Abija König über Juda.
2Er regierte drei Jahre zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Mikaja, die Tochter Uriels von Gibea. Und es war Krieg zwischen Abija und Jerobeam.
3Und Abija eröffnete den Krieg mit einem Heere von tapferen Kriegern, vierhunderttausend auserlesenen Männern; und Jerobeam stellte sich gegen ihn in Schlachtordnung auf mit achthunderttausend auserlesenen Männern, tapferen Helden.
4Da stellte sich Abija oben auf den Berg Zemaraim, der im Gebirge Ephraim liegt, und sprach: Höret mich, Jerobeam und ganz Israel!
5Solltet ihr nicht wissen, daß Jehova, der Gott Israels, das Königtum über Israel dem David gegeben hat ewiglich, ihm und seinen Söhnen durch einen Salzbund?
6Aber Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, der Knecht Salomos, des Sohnes Davids, erhob sich und empörte sich wider seinen Herrn;
7und es versammelten sich zu ihm lose Männer, Söhne Belials, und widersetzten sich Rehabeam, dem Sohne Salomos; Rehabeam aber war ein Jüngling und schwachen Herzens, und er hielt nicht stand vor ihnen.
8Und nun gedenket ihr stand zu halten vor dem Königtum Jehovas in der Hand der Söhne Davids, weil ihr eine große Menge seid, und die goldenen Kälber bei euch sind, die Jerobeam euch zu Göttern gemacht hat!
9Habt ihr nicht die Priester Jehovas, die Söhne Aarons, und die Leviten verstoßen, und euch Priester gemacht wie die Völker der Länder? Wer irgend mit einem jungen Farren und sieben Widdern kam, um sich weihen zu lassen, der wurde ein Priester der Nicht-Götter.
10Wir aber, Jehova ist unser Gott, und wir haben ihn nicht verlassen; und Priester, Söhne Aarons, dienen Jehova, und die Leviten sind in ihrem Geschäft;
11und sie räuchern dem Jehova Brandopfer Morgen für Morgen und Abend für Abend, und wohlriechendes Räucherwerk; und wir haben das Schichtbrot auf dem reinen Tische, und den goldenen Leuchter und seine Lampen zum Anzünden Abend für Abend; denn wir warten der Hut Jehovas, unseres Gottes; ihr aber habt ihn verlassen.
12Und siehe, Gott ist mit uns an unserer Spitze und seine Priester, und die Lärmtrompeten, um Lärm zu blasen wider euch. Kinder Israel! Streitet nicht wider Jehova, den Gott eurer Väter; denn es wird euch nicht gelingen.
13Aber Jerobeam ließ den Hinterhalt eine Umgehung machen, daß er ihnen in den Rücken käme; und so standen sie im Angesicht Judas und der Hinterhalt in ihrem Rücken.
14Und als Juda sich umsah, siehe, da hatten sie den Streit vorn und hinten. Da schrieen sie zu Jehova, und die Priester bliesen mit den Trompeten,
15und die Männer von Juda erhoben ein Kriegsgeschrei. Und es geschah, als die Männer von Juda das Kriegsgeschrei erhoben, da schlug Gott Jerobeam und ganz Israel vor Abija und Juda.
16Und die Kinder Israel flohen vor Juda, und Gott gab sie in ihre Hand.
17Und Abija und sein Volk richteten eine große Niederlage unter ihnen an, und es fielen von Israel Erschlagene, fünfhunderttausend auserlesene Männer.
18Und die Kinder Israel wurden gedemütigt zu selbiger Zeit; aber die Kinder Juda wurden stark, weil sie sich auf Jehova, den Gott ihrer Väter, gestützt hatten.
19Und Abija jagte Jerobeam nach, und er nahm ihm Städte weg: Bethel und seine Tochterstädte, und Jeschana und seine Tochterstädte, und Ephron und seine Tochterstädte.
20Und Jerobeam behielt keine Kraft mehr in den Tagen Abijas. Und Jehova schlug ihn, und er starb.
21Abija aber erstarkte. Und er nahm vierzehn Weiber und zeugte zweiundzwanzig Söhne und sechzehn Töchter.
22Und das Übrige der Geschichte Abijas und seine Wege und seine Reden sind geschrieben in der Beschreibung des Propheten Iddo.

1A LOS dieciocho años del rey Jeroboam, reinó Abías sobre Judá.
2Y reinó tres años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Michâía hija de Uriel de Gabaa. Y hubo guerra entre Abías y Jeroboam.
3Entonces ordenó Abías batalla con un ejército de cuatrocientos mil hombres de guerra valerosos y escogidos: y Jeroboam ordenó batalla contra él con ochocientos mil hombres escogidos, fuertes y valerosos.
4Y levantóse Abías sobre el monte de Semaraim, que es en los montes de Ephraim, y dijo: Oidme, Jeroboam y todo Israel.
5¿No sabéis vosotros, que Jehová Dios de Israel dió el reino á David sobre Israel para siempre, á él y á sus hijos en alianza de sal?
6Pero Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, siervo de Salomón hijo de David, se levantó y rebeló contra su señor.
7Y se allegaron á él hombres vanos, hijos de iniquidad, y pudieron más que Roboam hijo de Salomón, porque Roboam era mozo y tierno de corazón, y no se defendió de ellos.
8Y ahora vosotros tratáis de fortificaros contra el reino de Jehová en mano de los hijos de David, porque sois muchos, y tenéis con vosotros los becerros de oro que Jeroboam os hizo por dioses.
9¿No echasteis vosotros á los sacerdotes de Jehová, á los hijos de Aarón, y á los Levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes á la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga á consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?
10Mas en cuanto á nosotros, Jehová es nuestro Dios, y no le hemos dejado: y los sacerdotes que ministran á Jehová son los hijos de Aarón, y los Levitas en la obra;
11Los cuales queman á Jehová los holocaustos cada mañana y cada tarde, y los perfumes aromáticos; y ponen los panes sobre la mesa limpia, y el candelero de oro con sus candilejas para que ardan cada tarde: porque nosotros guardamos la ordenanza de Jehová nuestro Dios; mas vosotros le habéis dejado.
12Y he aquí Dios está con nosotros por cabeza, y sus sacerdotes con las trompetas del júbilo para que suenen contra vosotros. Oh hijos de Israel, no peleéis contra Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, porque no os sucederá bien.
13Pero Jeroboam hizo girar una emboscada para venir á ellos por la espalda: y estando así delante de ellos, la emboscada estaba á espaldas de Judá.
14Y como miró Judá, he aquí que tenía batalla delante y á las espaldas; por lo que clamaron á Jehová, y los sacerdotes tocaron las trompetas.
15Entonces los de Judá alzaron grita; y así que ellos alzaron grita, Dios desbarató á Jeroboam y á todo Israel delante de Abías y de Judá:
16Y huyeron los hijos de Israel delante de Judá, y Dios los entregó en sus manos.
17Y Abías y su gente hacían en ellos gran mortandad; y cayeron heridos de Israel quinientos mil hombres escogidos.
18Así fueron humillados los hijos de Israel en aquel tiempo: mas los hijos de Judá se fortificaron, porque se apoyaban en Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
19Y siguió Abías á Jeroboam, y tomóle algunas ciudades, á Beth-el con sus aldeas, á Jesana con sus aldeas, y á Ephraim con sus aldeas.
20Y nunca más tuvo Jeroboam poderío en los días de Abías: é hirióle Jehová, y murió.
21Empero se fortificó Abías; y tomó catorce mujeres, y engendró veintidós hijos, y dieciséis hijas.
22Lo demás de los hechos de Abías, sus caminos y sus negocios, está escrito en la historia de Iddo profeta.

1Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
2He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
3And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
4And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, thou Jeroboam, and all Israel;
5Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
6Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
7And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
8And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
9Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
10But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
11And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the shewbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but ye have forsaken him.
12And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
13But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
14And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
17And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
18Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
19And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.
20Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
21But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
22And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.

3Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.
4Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:
5Ought you not to know that the LORD, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
6Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.
7Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.
8“Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.
9Haven’t you driven out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.
10“But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.
11They burn to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of the LORD our God, but you have forsaken him.
12Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against the LORD, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”
13But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
14When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
15Then the men of Judah gave a shout. As the men of Judah shouted, God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

17Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.

19Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.
20Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. The LORD struck him, and he died.
21But Abijah grew mighty and took for himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.
