Mesmo assim, o rei de vocês, Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, servo de Salomão, filho de Davi, rebelou-se contra o seu senhor!

Não foram vocês que expulsaram os sacerdotes do Senhor, da família de Arão, e os levitas, e em lugar deles colocaram sacerdotes dos deuses de outros povos? Do mesmo modo que os povos de outras terras, vocês aceitam como sacerdote qualquer indivíduo que se apresente com um novilho e sete carneiros para ser consagrado e tornar-se sacerdote daqueles que não são deuses e que vocês adoram!
¿No echasteis vosotros á los sacerdotes de Jehová, á los hijos de Aarón, y á los Levitas, y os habéis hecho sacerdotes á la manera de los pueblos de otras tierras, para que cualquiera venga á consagrarse con un becerro y siete carneros, y así sea sacerdote de los que no son dioses?
Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

“Mas quanto a nós, o Senhor é nosso Deus, e nós não o abandonamos. Somente os descendentes de Arão são nossos sacerdotes, e só os levitas podem ajudar os sacerdotes no seu trabalho.

Mas vocês abandonaram Deus.

Nesse meio-tempo, Jeroboão tinha mandado em segredo uma parte do seu exército dar a volta por detrás dos homens de Judá e apanhá-los de surpresa. Assim Judá ficou cercado, com os inimigos por trás e pela frente.
