1Abías durmió con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David; y su hijo Asá reinó en su lugar. En sus días, la tierra tuvo paz durante diez años.
2Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios,
3pues quitó los altares extranjeros y los lugares altos, derribó los pilares sagrados y taló las imágenes de Asera.
4Y ordenó a Judá que buscara a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres, y que pusiera en práctica la ley y los mandamientos.
5También quitó de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y los altares de incienso, y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su mandato.
6Edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, pues la tierra estaba en paz, y no hubo guerra contra él en aquellos años, porque el Señor le había dado descanso.
7Por tanto, dijo a Judá: «Edifiquemos estas ciudades y cerquémoslas con muros, torres, puertas y cerrojos. La tierra aún está a nuestra disposición, porque hemos buscado a Yahvé, nuestro Dios; lo hemos buscado, y él nos ha dado descanso por todas partes». Así que edificaron y prosperaron.
8Asá tenía un ejército de trescientos mil hombres de Judá, armados con escudos y lanzas, y doscientos ochenta mil hombres de Benjamín, armados con escudos y arcos. Todos ellos eran guerreros valientes.
9Zéraj el etíope salió contra ellos con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros, y llegó hasta Maresa.
10Asá salió a su encuentro, y se dispusieron para la batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresa.
11Entonces Asá clamó a Yahvé, su Dios, y dijo: «Señor, para ti no hay diferencia entre ayudar al poderoso y ayudar al que no tiene fuerzas. Ayúdanos, oh Yahvé, nuestro Dios, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre hemos venido contra esta inmensa multitud. Oh Yahvé, tú eres nuestro Dios; no permitas que el hombre prevalezca contra ti».
12El Señor derrotó a los etíopes delante de Asá y delante de Judá, y los etíopes huyeron.
13Asá y el pueblo que estaba con él los persiguieron hasta Gerar. Y cayeron tantos de los etíopes que no quedó en ellos aliento para recuperarse, pues fueron destruidos delante del Señor y de su ejército. Los de Judá se llevaron un botín inmenso.
14Atacaron todas las ciudades en los alrededores de Gerar, porque el terror de Yahvé había caído sobre ellas. Y saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había mucho botín en ellas.
15También atacaron los campamentos de los ganaderos, y se llevaron ovejas y camellos en abundancia; después regresaron a Jerusalén.

1Y DURMIÓ Abías con sus padres, y fué sepultado en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa, en cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país por diez años.
2E hizo Asa lo bueno y lo recto en los ojos de Jehová su Dios.
3Porque quitó los altares del culto ajeno, y los altos; quebró las imágenes, y taló los bosques;
4Y mandó á Judá que buscasen á Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y pusiesen por obra la ley y sus mandamientos.
5Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los altos y las imágenes, y estuvo el reino quieto delante de él.
6Y edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos tiempos; porque Jehová le había dado reposo.
7Dijo por tanto á Judá: Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas, y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra: porque hemos buscado á Jehová nuestro Dios, hémosle buscado, y él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes. Edificaron pues, y fueron prosperados.
8Tuvo también Asa ejército que traía escudos y lanzas: de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos y ochenta mil que traían escudos y flechaban arcos; todos hombres diestros.
9Y salió contra ellos Zera Etiope con un ejército de mil millares, y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa.
10Entonces salió Asa contra él, y ordenaron la batalla en el valle de Sephata junto á Maresa.
11Y clamó Asa á Jehová su Dios, y dijo: Jehová, no tienes tú más con el grande que con el que ninguna fuerza tiene, para dar ayuda. Ayúdanos, oh Jehová Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre venimos contra este ejército. Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios: no prevalezca contra ti el hombre.
12Y Jehová deshizo los Etiopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los Etiopes.
13Y Asa, y el pueblo que con él estaba, lo siguió hasta Gerar: y cayeron los Etiopes hasta no quedar en ellos aliento; porque fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande despojo.
14Batieron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová fué sobre ellos: y saquearon todas las ciudades, porque había en ellas gran despojo.
15Asimismo dieron sobre las cabañas de los ganados, y trajeron muchas ovejas y camellos, y volviéronse á Jerusalem.

1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
3For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
7Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.
2Asa did that which was good and right in the LORD his God’s eyes,
3for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,
4and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest.
7For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
8Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.
9Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
10Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, LORD our God; for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. LORD, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
12So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before the LORD and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.
14They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.
15They also struck the tents of those who had livestock, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, then returned to Jerusalem.
