1Cuando el rey Abías murió, fue sepultado en Jerusalén, en la ciudad de David. Su hijo Asá ocupó el trono de Judá, y hubo paz en la tierra durante los primeros diez años de su reinado,
2pues Asá se preocupaba por obedecer al Señor su Dios.
3Hizo demoler los altares paganos que estaban en los cerros, y destruyó las piedras sagradas e hizo pedazos la vergonzosa imagen de la diosa Aserá.
4Además, demandó que toda la nación obedeciera los mandamientos del Señor, Dios de sus antepasados.
5Eliminó también las imágenes del dios sol que estaban en los cerros, y los altares para el incienso que había en cada una de las ciudades de Judá. Y Dios dio paz a su reino.
6Esto le permitió construir murallas alrededor de todas las ciudades de Judá.
7Asá les dijo a los de Judá: «Ahora es el tiempo oportuno para reconstruir esas ciudades y protegerlas con murallas, torres de vigilancia, puertas y barras, pues gozamos de paz. El Señor nos ha permitido seguir gozando de nuestra tierra, y nos ha concedido tener paz con nuestros vecinos, por cuanto hemos sido obedientes a él. ¡Así que levantémonos y construyamos!». Así pues, se lanzaron al cumplimiento de este proyecto con todo éxito.
8Las fuerzas de Asá, rey de Judá, contaban con trescientos mil soldados equipados con escudos grandes y lanzas. De los benjaminitas contaba con doscientos ochenta mil hombres armados con escudos pequeños y arcos. Ambos ejércitos se componían de hombres bravos y bien adiestrados.
9Tiempo después, el rey Zera de Etiopía, que contaba con un millón de soldados y trescientos carros de combate, salió a pelear contra Judá, y llegó hasta la ciudad de Maresá, en el valle de Sefata. Entonces el rey Asá salió a hacerle frente, y se ubicó cerca de Maresá.

11Asá clamó al Señor su Dios, y le dijo: «Señor, ¡nadie más puede ayudarnos, sino tú! Estamos aquí impotentes delante de esta multitud tan poderosa. ¡Señor Dios nuestro, ayúdanos! Porque confiamos en que tú puedes rescatarnos, y en tu nombre atacaremos a esta muchedumbre. ¡No dejes, Señor, que ningún ser humano se levante contra ti!».
12Entonces el Señor derrotó a los etíopes. Fue así como el rey Asá y el ejército de Judá pusieron en fuga a los etíopes.
13Los persiguieron hasta Guerar, y cayeron tantos etíopes que no pudieron reorganizarse, de modo que no quedó ni un solo hombre con vida, porque el Señor y su ejército los destruyeron en forma total. La gente de Judá se apoderó de una gran cantidad de objetos y bienes de los etíopes.
14Después atacaron las poblaciones que estaban cerca de Guerar. Los habitantes de esos lugares tuvieron mucho miedo y salieron huyendo. Entonces los de Judá se apoderaron de todo lo que habían dejado en sus ciudades.
15Además, atacaron los campamentos donde había mucho ganado, y se llevaron una gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después de eso, regresaron a Jerusalén.

1Y DURMIÓ Abías con sus padres, y fué sepultado en la ciudad de David. Y reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa, en cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país por diez años.
2E hizo Asa lo bueno y lo recto en los ojos de Jehová su Dios.
3Porque quitó los altares del culto ajeno, y los altos; quebró las imágenes, y taló los bosques;
4Y mandó á Judá que buscasen á Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y pusiesen por obra la ley y sus mandamientos.
5Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los altos y las imágenes, y estuvo el reino quieto delante de él.
6Y edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos tiempos; porque Jehová le había dado reposo.
7Dijo por tanto á Judá: Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas, y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra: porque hemos buscado á Jehová nuestro Dios, hémosle buscado, y él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes. Edificaron pues, y fueron prosperados.
8Tuvo también Asa ejército que traía escudos y lanzas: de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos y ochenta mil que traían escudos y flechaban arcos; todos hombres diestros.
9Y salió contra ellos Zera Etiope con un ejército de mil millares, y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa.
10Entonces salió Asa contra él, y ordenaron la batalla en el valle de Sephata junto á Maresa.
11Y clamó Asa á Jehová su Dios, y dijo: Jehová, no tienes tú más con el grande que con el que ninguna fuerza tiene, para dar ayuda. Ayúdanos, oh Jehová Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre venimos contra este ejército. Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios: no prevalezca contra ti el hombre.
12Y Jehová deshizo los Etiopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los Etiopes.
13Y Asa, y el pueblo que con él estaba, lo siguió hasta Gerar: y cayeron los Etiopes hasta no quedar en ellos aliento; porque fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande despojo.
14Batieron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová fué sobre ellos: y saquearon todas las ciudades, porque había en ellas gran despojo.
15Asimismo dieron sobre las cabañas de los ganados, y trajeron muchas ovejas y camellos, y volviéronse á Jerusalem.

1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
2And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
3For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
4And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
7Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
8And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
9And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
10Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
12So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
15They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.
2Asa did that which was good and right in the LORD his God’s eyes,
3for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,
4and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.
6He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because the LORD had given him rest.
7For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
8Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.
9Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.
10Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
11Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, LORD our God; for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. LORD, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
12So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before the LORD and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.
14They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.
15They also struck the tents of those who had livestock, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, then returned to Jerusalem.
