Asa tomou todo o cuidado para obedecer ao Senhor, o seu Deus, fazendo o que é reto aos olhos de Deus.
E hizo Asa lo bueno y lo recto en los ojos de Jehová su Dios.

Ele derrubou os altares dos deuses estranhos e os altares idólatras que havia nos montes, e quebrou as colunas sagradas e cortou em pedaços as vergonhosas imagens de Aserá.

For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,
Ele exigiu que toda a nação de Judá buscasse o Senhor, o Deus dos seus antepassados, e obedecesse às suas leis e aos seus mandamentos.
Y mandó á Judá que buscasen á Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y pusiesen por obra la ley y sus mandamientos.

Também retirou das montanhas os altares idólatras e os altares de incenso de cada uma das cidades de Judá, por isso Deus deu paz ao seu reino.
Quitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los altos y las imágenes, y estuvo el reino quieto delante de él.

Ele também construiu cidades protegidas por muros em toda a terra de Judá, aproveitando o período de paz. Ninguém lutava contra ele naqueles anos, porque o Senhor os protegia.

Então ele disse ao povo de Judá: “Agora é o tempo para construir as cidades com muros, fortificadas com torres, portões e trancas. A terra é nossa, porque temos buscado o Senhor, o nosso Deus, e ele nos tem concedido paz”. E assim eles executaram esses projetos e tiveram sucesso.
Dijo por tanto á Judá: Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas, y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra: porque hemos buscado á Jehová nuestro Dios, hémosle buscado, y él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes. Edificaron pues, y fueron prosperados.
Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

O exército que o rei Asa tinha em Judá era de trezentos mil homens fortes, armados com escudos e lanças. O exército dos benjamitas tinha duzentos e oitenta mil homens, também armados com escudos e arcos. Os dois exércitos eram formados por homens valentes e bem treinados.
Tuvo también Asa ejército que traía escudos y lanzas: de Judá trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos y ochenta mil que traían escudos y flechaban arcos; todos hombres diestros.
And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

Então ele foi atacado por um exército de um milhão de soldados vindos da Etiópia, com trezentos carros de guerra, comandados por Zerá. Eles avançaram até a cidade de Maressa.

O rei Asa saiu com os seus soldados para lutar contra eles, e se colocaram em posição de combate no vale de Zefetá, perto de Maressa.

Então Asa pediu socorro ao Senhor, o seu Deus, e disse: “Ó Senhor, ninguém mais pode ajudar-nos! Aqui estamos nós, fracos, contra este exército poderoso. Ajuda-nos, ó Senhor, nosso Deus, pois confiamos no Senhor para livrar-nos, e em seu nome atacamos este enorme exército. Ó Senhor, o Senhor é o nosso Deus; não permita que simples homens derrotem o Senhor!”
Y clamó Asa á Jehová su Dios, y dijo: Jehová, no tienes tú más con el grande que con el que ninguna fuerza tiene, para dar ayuda. Ayúdanos, oh Jehová Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre venimos contra este ejército. Oh Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios: no prevalezca contra ti el hombre.
And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
Asa cried to the LORD his God, and said, “LORD, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, LORD our God; for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. LORD, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
Então o Senhor derrotou os etíopes diante de Asa e do exército de Judá. Os etíopes fugiram,

e Asa e seu exército foram atrás deles até Gerar, e todo o exército etíope foi destruído, de maneira que não sobrou nenhum homem. Eles foram destruídos diante do Senhor e seu exército. Então o exército de Judá saqueou uma enorme quantidade de coisas deixadas no campo de batalha.
Y Asa, y el pueblo que con él estaba, lo siguió hasta Gerar: y cayeron los Etiopes hasta no quedar en ellos aliento; porque fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande despojo.
And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before the LORD and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.
Então eles atacaram todas as cidades daquela região de Gerar, e o terror do Senhor veio sobre todos os moradores. Como resultado, levaram enorme quantidade de coisas daquelas cidades também.
Batieron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová fué sobre ellos: y saquearon todas las ciudades, porque había en ellas gran despojo.
And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

Eles não somente tomaram tudo o que as cidades tinham, mas atacaram também os acampamentos de gado e levaram grandes rebanhos de ovelhas, cabras e camelos, antes de voltarem para Jerusalém.
