1Un día, el espíritu de Dios vino sobre Azarías hijo de Obed,
2y le dio un mensaje para el rey Asá. Entonces Azarías fue a encontrar al rey Asá, y le dijo: «¡Escúchame, rey Asá! ¡Escuchen, Judá y Benjamín! ¡El Señor estará con ustedes, siempre y cuando ustedes estén con él! ¡Todas las veces que lo busquen, lo encontrarán! Pero si lo abandonan, él también los abandonará a ustedes.
3Hace mucho tiempo que Israel vive sin adorar al verdadero Dios, sin un verdadero sacerdote que les enseñara las leyes de Dios.
4Sin embargo, cada vez que en sus angustias se han vuelto al Señor, Dios de Israel, y lo han buscado, él les ha proporcionado ayuda.
5En sus tiempos de rebelión contra Dios no había paz, y los problemas causaban molestias a la nación por todas partes. El crimen iba en aumento.
6Se libraban guerras externas y batallas internas de ciudades contra ciudades, porque Dios estaba castigándolos con toda clase de calamidades.
7Pero ustedes, habitantes de Judá, manténganse en el cumplimiento del deber y no se desanimen, porque recibirán el premio».
8Cuando el rey Asá oyó este mensaje de parte de Dios, se llenó de valor y destruyó todos los ídolos que había en las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y en las ciudades que había capturado en la región montañosa de Efraín. Además, reconstruyó el altar del Señor frente al templo.
9Hecho esto, convocó a todo el pueblo de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los israelitas procedentes de Efraín, Manasés y Simeón, que se habían unido a Judá cuando comprendieron que el Señor Dios estaba con el rey Asá.
10Se reunieron en Jerusalén en el mes tercero del año quince del reinado de Asá,
11y sacrificaron, en honor al Señor, setecientos toros y siete mil ovejas del botín que habían recogido en la batalla.
12Luego se comprometieron solemnemente a adorar únicamente al Señor, Dios de sus padres,
13y acordaron que cualquiera que rechazara el cumplimiento de esta cláusula debía morir, ya fuera viejo o joven, hombre o mujer.
14En voz alta prestaron juramento de lealtad a Dios, con aclamación de júbilo y toque de trompetas y cuernos.
15Todos estaban felices de haber hecho este compromiso, porque lo habían hecho de todo corazón, y con firme voluntad habían buscado al Señor, ya que lo necesitaban por sobre todas las cosas, y lo habían encontrado. Y Dios les dio paz a través de toda la nación.
16El rey Asá tomó incluso la medida de alejar a su abuela Macá del lugar que debía ocupar como reina madre, porque ella había hecho una horrible imagen de la diosa Aserá. El rey Asá derribó el ídolo, lo destruyó y lo quemó junto al torrente de Cedrón.
17Aunque no se eliminaron de Israel todos los pequeños santuarios paganos que había en las colinas, Asá se mantuvo fiel a Dios durante toda su vida.
18Se ocupó de devolver al interior del templo las vasijas de plata y de oro que él y su padre habían dedicado al Señor.
19No volvió a haber guerra sino hasta el año treinta y cinco del reinado de Asá.

1Y FUÉ el espíritu de Dios sobre Azarías hijo de Obed;
2Y salió al encuentro á Asa, y díjole: Oidme, Asa, y todo Judá y Benjamín: Jehová es con vosotros, si vosotros fuereis con él: y si le buscareis, será hallado de vosotros; mas si le dejareis, él también os dejará.
3Muchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios y sin sacerdote, y sin enseñador y sin ley:
4Mas cuando en su tribulación se convirtieron á Jehová Dios de Israel, y le buscaron, él fué hallado de ellos.
5En aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba, ni para el que salía, sino muchas aflicciones sobre todos los habitadores de las tierras.
6Y la una gente destruía á la otra, y una ciudad á otra ciudad: porque Dios los conturbó con todas calamidades.
7Esforzaos empero vosotros, y no desfallezcan vuestras manos; que salario hay para vuestra obra.
8Y como oyó Asa las palabras y profecía de Obed profeta, fué confortado, y quitó las abominaciones de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de las ciudades que él había tomado en el monte de Ephraim; y reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba delante del pórtico de Jehová.
9Después hizo juntar á todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos los extranjeros de Ephraim, y de Manasés, y de Simeón: porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado á él, viendo que Jehová su Dios era con él.
10Juntáronse pues en Jerusalem en el mes tercero del año décimoquinto del reinado de Asa.
11Y en aquel mismo día sacrificaron á Jehová, de los despojos que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.
12Y entraron en concierto de que buscarían á Jehová el Dios de sus padres, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma;
13Y que cualquiera que no buscase á Jehová el Dios de Israel, muriese, grande ó pequeño, hombre ó mujer.
14Y juraron á Jehová con gran voz y júbilo, á son de trompetas y de bocinas:
15Del cual juramento todos los de Judá se alegraron; porque de todo su corazón lo juraban, y de toda su voluntad lo buscaban: y fué hallado de ellos; y dióles Jehová reposo de todas partes.
16Y aun á Maachâ madre del rey Asa, él mismo la depuso de su dignidad, porque había hecho un ídolo en el bosque: y Asa deshizo su ídolo, y lo desmenuzó, y quemó en el torrente de Cedrón.
17Mas con todo eso los altos no eran quitados de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fué perfecto mientras vivió.
18Y metió en la casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él había consagrado, plata y oro y vasos.
19Y no hubo guerra hasta los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa.

1And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
2And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
3Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
4But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
5And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
6And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
7Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
8And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
9And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
10So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
11And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
12And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
13That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
14And they sware unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
16And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
17But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
18And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
19And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.

1The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded.
2He went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! The LORD is with you while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
3Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law.
4But when in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.
5In those times there was no peace to him who went out, nor to him who came in; but great troubles were on all the inhabitants of the lands.
6They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God troubled them with all adversity.
7But you be strong! Don’t let your hands be slack, for your work will be rewarded.”
8When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill country of Ephraim; and he renewed the LORD’s altar that was before the LORD’s porch.
9He gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who lived with them out of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon; for they came to him out of Israel in abundance when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
10So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
11They sacrificed to the LORD in that day, from the plunder which they had brought, seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep.
