1Und es geschah hernach, da kamen die Kinder Moab und die Kinder Ammon und mit ihnen von den Meunitern wider Josaphat zum Streit.
2Und man kam und berichtete Josaphat und sprach: Eine große Menge ist wider dich gekommen von jenseit des Meeres, von Syrien; und siehe, sie sind zu Hazezon-Tamar, das ist Engedi.
3Da fürchtete sich Josaphat, und er richtete sein Angesicht darauf, Jehova zu suchen; und er rief ein Fasten aus über ganz Juda.
4Und Juda versammelte sich, um von Jehova Hilfe zu suchen; sogar aus allen Städten Judas kamen sie, um Jehova zu suchen.
5Und Josaphat stand in der Versammlung Judas und Jerusalems im Hause Jehovas, vor dem neuen Vorhof;
6und er sprach: Jehova, Gott unserer Väter, bist du es nicht, der da Gott im Himmel ist, und bist du nicht der Herrscher über alle Königreiche der Nationen? Und in deiner Hand ist Kraft und Macht; und niemand vermag gegen dich zu bestehen.
7Hast du nicht, unser Gott, die Bewohner dieses Landes vor deinem Volke Israel ausgetrieben und es dem Samen Abrahams, deines Freundes, gegeben ewiglich?
8Und sie haben darin gewohnt und haben dir ein Heiligtum darin gebaut für deinen Namen, und gesagt:
9Wenn Unglück über uns kommt, Schwert, Strafgericht, oder Pest, oder Hungersnot, und wir treten vor dieses Haus und vor dich, denn dein Name ist in diesem Hause und schrieen zu dir aus unserer Bedrängnis, so wirst du hören und retten.
10Und nun, siehe, die Kinder Ammon und Moab und die vom Gebirge Seir, unter welche zu kommen du Israel nicht gestattet hast, als sie aus dem Lande Ägypten kamen, sondern sie sind ihnen ausgewichen und haben sie nicht vertilgt:
11siehe da, sie vergelten es uns, indem sie kommen, um uns aus deinem Besitztum zu vertreiben, das du uns zum Besitz gegeben hast.
12Unser Gott, willst du sie nicht richten? Denn in uns ist keine Kraft vor dieser großen Menge, die wider uns kommt; und wir wissen nicht, was wir tun sollen, sondern auf dich sind unsere Augen gerichtet.
13Und ganz Juda stand vor Jehova, samt ihren Kindlein, ihren Weibern und ihren Söhnen.
14Und Jachasiel, der Sohn Sekarjas, des Sohnes Benajas, des Sohnes Jechiels, des Sohnes Mattanjas, der Levit, von den Söhnen Asaphs, auf ihn kam der Geist Jehovas mitten in der Versammlung.
15Und er sprach: Merket auf, ganz Juda, und ihr Bewohner von Jerusalem, und du, König Josaphat! So spricht Jehova zu euch: Fürchtet euch nicht und erschrecket nicht vor dieser großen Menge; denn nicht euer ist der Streit, sondern Gottes!
16Morgen ziehet wider sie hinab; siehe, sie kommen die Anhöhe Ziz herauf, und ihr werdet sie am Ende des Tales finden vor der Wüste Jeruel.
17Ihr werdet hierbei nicht zu streiten haben; tretet hin, stehet und sehet die Rettung Jehovas an euch, Juda und Jerusalem! Fürchtet euch nicht und erschrecket nicht; morgen ziehet ihnen entgegen, und Jehova wird mit euch sein!
18Da neigte sich Josaphat, mit dem Antlitz zur Erde; und ganz Juda und die Bewohner von Jerusalem fielen nieder vor Jehova, um Jehova anzubeten.
19Und die Leviten, von den Söhnen der Kehathiter und von den Söhnen der Korhiter, standen auf, um Jehova, den Gott Israels, zu loben mit überaus lauter Stimme.
20Und sie machten sich des Morgens früh auf und zogen aus nach der Wüste Tekoa. Und bei ihrem Auszuge trat Josaphat hin und sprach: Höret mich, Juda, und ihr Bewohner von Jerusalem! Glaubet an Jehova, euren Gott, und ihr werdet befestigt werden; glaubet seinen Propheten, und es wird euch gelingen!
21Und er beriet sich mit dem Volke und bestellte Sänger für Jehova, welche lobsangen in heiligem Schmuck, indem sie vor den Gerüsteten her auszogen und sprachen: Preiset Jehova, denn seine Güte währt ewiglich!
22Und zur Zeit, als sie begannen mit Jubel und Lobgesang, stellte Jehova einen Hinterhalt wider die Kinder Ammon, Moab und die vom Gebirge Seir, welche wider Juda gekommen waren; und sie wurden geschlagen.
23Und die Kinder Ammon und Moab standen auf wider die Bewohner des Gebirges Seir, um sie zu vernichten und zu vertilgen; und als sie mit den Bewohnern von Seir fertig waren, half einer den anderen verderben.
24Und Juda kam auf die Bergwarte gegen die Wüste hin; und sie sahen sich um nach der Menge, und siehe, da waren es Leichname, die auf der Erde lagen, und niemand war entronnen.
25Da kam Josaphat und sein Volk, um ihre Beute zu rauben; und sie fanden unter ihnen sowohl Habe als Leichname und kostbare Geräte in Menge, und sie plünderten für sich, bis es nicht mehr zu tragen war. Und drei Tage lang raubten sie die Beute, denn sie war groß.
26Und am vierten Tage versammelten sie sich im Tale Beraka, denn daselbst priesen sie Jehova; daher gab man jenem Orte den Namen Tal Beraka, bis auf diesen Tag.
27Und alle Männer von Juda und Jerusalem kehrten um, mit Josaphat an ihrer Spitze, um nach Jerusalem zurückzukehren mit Freude; denn Jehova hatte ihnen Freude an ihren Feinden gegeben.
28Und sie kamen nach Jerusalem, zum Hause Jehovas, mit Harfen und mit Lauten und mit Trompeten.
29Und der Schrecken Gottes fiel auf alle Königreiche der Länder, als sie hörten, daß Jehova mit den Feinden Israels gestritten hatte.
30Und das Königreich Josaphats hatte Ruhe; und sein Gott schaffte ihm Ruhe ringsumher.
31Und so regierte Josaphat über Juda. Er war fünfunddreißig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und er regierte fünfundzwanzig Jahre zu Jerusalem; und der Name seiner Mutter war Asuba, die Tochter Schilchis.
32Und er wandelte auf dem Wege seines Vaters Asa und wich nicht davon, indem er tat, was recht war in den Augen Jehovas.
33Nur die Höhen wichen nicht, und das Volk hatte sein Herz noch nicht auf den Gott ihrer Väter gerichtet.
34Und das Übrige der Geschichte Josaphats, die erste und die letzte, siehe, sie ist geschrieben in der Geschichte Jehus, des Sohnes Hananis, welche in das Buch der Könige von Israel aufgenommen ist.
35Und hernach verband sich Josaphat, der König von Juda, mit Ahasja, dem König von Israel; dieser handelte gesetzlos.
36Und er verband sich mit ihm, Schiffe zu bauen, um nach Tarsis zu fahren; und sie bauten Schiffe zu Ezjon-Geber.
37Und Elieser, der Sohn Dodawas, von Marescha, weissagte wider Josaphat und sprach: Weil du dich mit Ahasja verbunden hast, hat Jehova dein Werk zerstört. Und die Schiffe wurden zertrümmert und vermochten nicht nach Tarsis zu fahren.

1PASADAS estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Ammón, y con ellos otros de los Ammonitas, vinieron contra Josaphat á la guerra.
2Y acudieron, y dieron aviso á Josaphat, diciendo: Contra ti viene una grande multitud de la otra parte de la mar, y de la Siria; y he aquí ellos están en Hasasón-tamar, que es Engedi.
3Entonces él tuvo temor; y puso Josaphat su rostro para consultar á Jehová, é hizo pregonar ayuno á todo Judá.
4Y juntáronse los de Judá para pedir socorro á Jehová: y también de todas las ciudades de Judá vinieron á pedir á Jehová.
5Púsose entonces Josaphat en pie en la reunión de Judá y de Jerusalem, en la casa de Jehová, delante del atrio nuevo;
6Y dijo: Jehová Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú Dios en los cielos, y te enseñoreas en todos los reinos de las Gentes? ¿no está en tu mano tal fuerza y potencia, que no hay quien te resista?
7Dios nuestro, ¿no echaste tú los moradores de aquesta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste á la simiente de Abraham tu amigo para siempre?
8Y ellos han habitado en ella, y te han edificado en ella santuario á tu nombre, diciendo:
9Si mal viniere sobre nosotros, ó espada de castigo, ó pestilencia, ó hambre, presentarnos hemos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti, (porque tu nombre está en esta casa,) y de nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos á ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás.
10Ahora pues, he aquí los hijos de Ammón y de Moab, y los del monte de Seir, á la tierra de los cuales no quisiste que pasase Israel cuando venían de la tierra de Egipto, sino que se apartasen de ellos, y no los destruyesen;
11He aquí ellos nos dan el pago, viniendo á echarnos de tu heredad, que tú nos diste á poseer.
12¡Oh Dios nuestro! ¿no los juzgarás tú? porque en nosotros no hay fuerza contra tan grande multitud que viene contra nosotros: no sabemos lo que hemos de hacer, mas á ti volvemos nuestros ojos.
13Y todo Judá estaba en pie delante de Jehová, con sus niños, y sus mujeres, y sus hijos.
14Y estaba allí Jahaziel hijo de Zachârías, hijo de Benaías, hijo de Jeiel, hijo de Mathanías, Levita de los hijos de Asaph, sobre el cual vino el espíritu de Jehová en medio de la reunión;
15Y dijo: Oid, Judá todo, y vosotros moradores de Jerusalem, y tú, rey Josaphat. Jehová os dice así: No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta tan grande multitud; porque no es vuestra la guerra, sino de Dios.
16Mañana descenderéis contra ellos: he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel.
17No habrá para qué vosotros peleéis en este caso: paraos, estad quedos, y ved la salud de Jehová con vosotros. Oh Judá y Jerusalem, no temáis ni desmayéis; salid mañana contra ellos, que Jehová será con vosotros.
18Entonces Josaphat se inclinó rostro por tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalem se postraron delante de Jehová, y adoraron á Jehová.
19Y levantáronse los Levitas de los hijos de Coath y de los hijos de Coré, para alabar á Jehová el Dios de Israel á grande y alta voz.
20Y como se levantaron por la mañana, salieron por el desierto de Tecoa. Y mientras ellos salían, Josaphat estando en pie, dijo: Oidme, Judá y moradores de Jerusalem. Creed á Jehová vuestro Dios, y seréis seguros; creed á sus profetas, y seréis prosperados.
21Y habido consejo con el pueblo, puso á algunos que cantasen á Jehová, y alabasen en la hermosura de la santidad, mientras que salía la gente armada, y dijesen: Glorificad á Jehová, porque su misericordia es para siempre.
22Y como comenzaron con clamor y con alabanza, puso Jehová contra los hijos de Ammón, de Moab, y del monte de Seir, las emboscadas de ellos mismos que venían contra Judá, y matáronse los unos á los otros:
23Pues los hijos de Ammón y Moab se levantaron contra los del monte de Seir, para matarlos y destruirlos; y como hubieron acabado á los del monte de Seir, cada cual ayudó á la destrucción de su compañero.
24Y luego que vino Judá á la atalaya del desierto, miraron hacia la multitud; mas he aquí yacían ellos en tierra muertos, que ninguno había escapado.
25Viniendo entonces Josaphat y su pueblo á despojarlos, hallaron en ellos muchas riquezas entre los cadáveres, así vestidos como preciosos enseres, los cuales tomaron para sí, tantos, que no los podían llevar: tres días duró el despojo, porque era mucho.
26Y al cuarto día se juntaron en el valle de Beracah; porque allí bendijeron á Jehová, y por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel paraje el valle de Beracah, hasta hoy.
27Y todo Judá y los de Jerusalem, y Josaphat á la cabeza de ellos, volvieron para tornarse á Jerusalem con gozo, porque Jehová les había dado gozo de sus enemigos.
28Y vinieron á Jerusalem con salterios, arpas, y bocinas, á la casa de Jehová.
29Y fué el pavor de Dios sobre todos los reinos de aquella tierra, cuando oyeron que Jehová había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel.
30Y el reino de Josaphat tuvo reposo; porque su Dios le dió reposo de todas partes.
31Así reinó Josaphat sobre Judá: de treinta y cinco años era cuando comenzó á reinar, y reinó veinte y cinco años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Azuba, hija de Silhi.
32Y anduvo en el camino de Asa su padre, sin apartarse de él, haciendo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová.
33Con todo eso los altos no eran quitados; que el pueblo aun no había enderezado su corazón al Dios de sus padres.
34Lo demás de los hechos de Josaphat, primeros y postreros, he aquí están escritos en las palabras de Jehú hijo de Hanani, del cual es hecha mención en el libro de los reyes de Israel.
35Pasadas estas cosas, Josaphat rey de Judá trabó amistad con Ochôzías rey de Israel, el cual fué dado á la impiedad:
36E hizo con él compañía para aparejar navíos que fuesen á Tharsis; y construyeron los navíos en Esion-geber.
37Entonces Eliezer hijo de Dodava de Mareosah, profetizó contra Josaphat, diciendo: Por cuanto has hecho compañía con Ochôzías, Jehová destruirá tus obras. Y los navíos se rompieron, y no pudieron ir á Tharsis.

1It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.
3And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
6And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
13And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
15And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
16To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
19And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.
22And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
24And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
25And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
26And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
27Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.
29And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
30So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
31And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
32And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.
33Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
34Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
35And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
36And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.
37Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

1After this, the children of Moab, the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Meunites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
2Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria. Behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).
3Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek the LORD. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4Judah gathered themselves together to seek help from the LORD. They came out of all the cities of Judah to seek the LORD.
5Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the LORD’s house, before the new court;
6and he said, “LORD, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.
7Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the offspring of Abraham your friend forever?
8They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying,
9‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’
10Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned away from them, and didn’t destroy them;
11behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.
12Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us. We don’t know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
13All Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14Then the LORD’s Spirit came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the middle of the assembly;
15and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat. The LORD says to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
16Tomorrow, go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You will find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”
18Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.
19The Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with an exceedingly loud voice.
20They rose early in the morning and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, so you will be established! Believe his prophets, so you will prosper.”
21When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and give praise in holy array as they go out before the army, and say, “Give thanks to the LORD, for his loving kindness endures forever.”
22When they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck.
23For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. When they had finished the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy each other.
24When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped.
25When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their plunder, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies with precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away. They took plunder for three days, it was so much.
26On the fourth day, they assembled themselves in Beracah Valley, for there they blessed the LORD. Therefore the name of that place was called “Beracah Valley” to this day.
27Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
28They came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments, harps, and trumpets to the LORD’s house.
29The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries when they heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
30So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave him rest all around.
