Josafá ficou muito perturbado e resolveu pedir ajuda ao Senhor e anunciou um jejum a todo o povo de Judá.

O seu povo passou a morar aqui e construiu este santuário em honra ao seu nome, dizendo:

Amanhã, desçam e ataquem esse exército! Vocês vão encontrá-lo subindo as ladeiras de Ziz, no fim do vale, em frente do deserto de Jeruel.

Então o rei Josafá inclinou-se, com o rosto em terra, e todo o povo de Judá e o povo de Jerusalém fizeram a mesma coisa, adorando o Senhor.

Bem cedo, na manhã seguinte, o exército de Judá saiu para o deserto de Tecoa. No caminho, Josafá parou e chamou a atenção deles. “Escutem-me, ó povo de Judá e de Jerusalém”, disse ele. “Creiam no Senhor, o seu Deus, e vocês terão sucesso! Creiam nos profetas do Senhor, e tudo sairá bem!”

Depois de consultar os chefes do povo, Josafá nomeou um coro para cantarem ao Senhor e o louvarem pelo esplendor da sua santidade, marchando à frente do exército. Eles cantavam assim: “Louvem o Senhor, pois o seu amor dura para sempre”.

E no momento em que começaram a cantar e a louvar, o Senhor fez que os exércitos de Amom, de Moabe e de Edom que estavam invadindo Judá começassem a lutar entre si, e eles se destruíram mutuamente!
