2 Crónicas 20

Después de esto se coligaron los hijos de Moab y los hijos de Amón, y con ellos algunos amonitas, contra Josafat para hacerle gue-rra.

PASADAS estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Ammón, y con ellos otros de los Ammonitas, vinieron contra Josaphat á la guerra.

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

Y llegaron unos mensajeros a avisar a Josafat, diciendo: Viene contra ti una gran muchedumbre de los países de la otra parte del mar muerto , y de la Siria; y ahora están acampados en Asasontamar, por otro nombre Engaddi.

Y acudieron, y dieron aviso á Josaphat, diciendo: Contra ti viene una grande multitud de la otra parte de la mar, y de la Siria; y he aquí ellos están en Hasasón-tamar, que es Engedi.

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.

Con esto Josafat, atemorizado, se dedicó todo a suplicar al Señor, y ordenó un ayuno a todo el pueblo de Judá.

Entonces él tuvo temor; y puso Josaphat su rostro para consultar á Jehová, é hizo pregonar ayuno á todo Judá.

Y se juntó el pueblo de Judá para implorar el socorro del Señor, y toda la gente venía desde sus ciudades a presentarle sus ruegos.

Y puesto Josafat en medio del concurso de Judá y de Jerusalén en el templo del Señor delante del atrio nuevo,

And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

and he said, “LORD, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

¿No es así que tú, oh Dios nuestro, acabaste con todos los moradores de esta tierra delante de Israel, tu pueblo, y se la diste para siempre a los descendientes de tu amigo Abrahán?

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

Los cuales la habían habitado, y erigido en ella un santuario a tu Nombre, diciendo:

Si descargaren males sobre nosotros, la espada vengadora, o peste, o hambre, nos presentaremos en tu acatamiento dentro de esta casa en que ha sido invocado tu Nombre, y clamaremos a ti en nuestras tribulaciones, y tú nos oirás y nos salvarás.

Si mal viniere sobre nosotros, ó espada de castigo, ó pestilencia, ó hambre, presentarnos hemos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti, (porque tu nombre está en esta casa,) y de nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos á ti, y tú nos oirás y salvarás.

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’

Ahora, pues, los hijos de Amón y los de Moab, y los de la montaña de Seir, por cuyas tierras no permitiste que pasase Israel al salir de Egipto, antes se desvió Israel de ellos, y no los mató:

he aquí que proceden al contrario, y hacen todo esfuerzo para arrojarnos del país, cuya posesión nos diste.

Estaba a la sazón todo Judá delante del Señor con los niños, mujeres e hijos.

Y todo Judá estaba en pie delante de Jehová, con sus niños, y sus mujeres, y sus hijos.

y dijo: Atención, oh pueblo de Judá, y vosotros habitantes de Jerusalén , y tú, oh rey Josafat: Esto os dice el Señor: No tenéis que temer ni acobardaros a vista de esa muchedumbre, porque el combate no está a cargo vuestro, sino de Dios.

Y dijo: Oid, Judá todo, y vosotros moradores de Jerusalem, y tú, rey Josaphat. Jehová os dice así: No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta tan grande multitud; porque no es vuestra la guerra, sino de Dios.

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat. The LORD says to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Mañana marcharéis contra ellos, pues han de subir por la cuesta llamada Sis, y los encontraréis en la extremidad del torrente que corre hacia el desierto de Jeruel.

Mañana descenderéis contra ellos: he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel.

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

No tendréis vosotros que pelear; manteneos solamente a pie firme con confianza, y veréis, oh habitantes de Judá y Jerusalén , el socorro del Señor sobre vosotros; no tenéis que temer ni acobardaros; mañana saldréis contra ellos, y el Señor estará con vosotros.

No habrá para qué vosotros peleéis en este caso: paraos, estad quedos, y ved la salud de Jehová con vosotros. Oh Judá y Jerusalem, no temáis ni desmayéis; salid mañana contra ellos, que Jehová será con vosotros.

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

Al oír esto Josafat y el pueblo de Judá, y los habitantes todos de Jerusalén , se postraron rostro por tierra ante el Señor.

Entonces Josaphat se inclinó rostro por tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalem se postraron delante de Jehová, y adoraron á Jehová.

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

Al mismo tiempo los levitas del linaje de Caat y del linaje de Coré, cantaban alabanzas al Señor Dios de Israel con grandes voces, que llegaban hasta el cielo.

And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

Y a la mañana siguiente poniéndose en movimiento, tomaron el camino del desierto de Tecue; y comenzada la marcha, Josafat, puesto en medio de ellos, dijo: Oídme, varones de Judá, y vosotros habitantes todos de Jerusalén : Confiad en el Señor Dios vuestro, y estaréis seguros; creed a sus profetas, y todo irá felizmente.

Y como se levantaron por la mañana, salieron por el desierto de Tecoa. Y mientras ellos salían, Josaphat estando en pie, dijo: Oidme, Judá y moradores de Jerusalem. Creed á Jehová vuestro Dios, y seréis seguros; creed á sus profetas, y seréis prosperados.

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

Hizo después sus advertencias al pueblo, y señaló cantores del Señor, para que distribuidos en coros cantasen sus alabanzas, y precediendo al ejército, dijesen todos a una voz: Glorificad al Señor, porque es eterna su misericordia.

Y habido consejo con el pueblo, puso á algunos que cantasen á Jehová, y alabasen en la hermosura de la santidad, mientras que salía la gente armada, y dijesen: Glorificad á Jehová, porque su misericordia es para siempre.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and give praise in holy array as they go out before the army, and say, “Give thanks to the LORD, for his loving kindness endures forever.”

Luego que dieron principio al canto, convirtió el Señor contra sí mismos las estratagemas de los enemigos, es decir, de los amonitas, y de los moabitas, y de los pueblos de la montaña de Seir, que habían venido para pelear contra Judá, y quedaron derrotados.

Y como comenzaron con clamor y con alabanza, puso Jehová contra los hijos de Ammón, de Moab, y del monte de Seir, las emboscadas de ellos mismos que venían contra Judá, y matáronse los unos á los otros:

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

Porque los amonitas y moabitas se levantaron contra los moradores de la montaña de Seir, los destrozaron y acabaron con ellos; y ejecutado esto, volviendo luego las armas contra sí mismos, se mataron unos a otros a cuchilladas.

Pues los hijos de Ammón y Moab se levantaron contra los del monte de Seir, para matarlos y destruirlos; y como hubieron acabado á los del monte de Seir, cada cual ayudó á la destrucción de su compañero.

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

Los de Judá, así que llegaron a la altura desde donde se descubre el desierto, vieron a lo lejos todo aquel espacioso campo cubierto de cadáveres, y que ni uno siquiera había escapado a la mortandad.

Y luego que vino Judá á la atalaya del desierto, miraron hacia la multitud; mas he aquí yacían ellos en tierra muertos, que ninguno había escapado.

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

Llegó, pues, Josafat con todo su ejército para coger los despojos de los muertos; y hallaron entre los cadáveres muchas alhajas, y vestidos, y vasos preciosísimos, y lo cogieron todo; siendo tanto el botín, que no sabían cómo llevarlo, ni pudieron en tres días recoger todos los despojos.

Viniendo entonces Josaphat y su pueblo á despojarlos, hallaron en ellos muchas riquezas entre los cadáveres, así vestidos como preciosos enseres, los cuales tomaron para sí, tantos, que no los podían llevar: tres días duró el despojo, porque era mucho.

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

Finalmente, el cuarto día se reunieron en el valle de Bendición; pues por haber ellos bendecido allí al Señor, dieron a aquel lugar el nombre de valle de Bendición, que conserva hasta hoy día.

Y al cuarto día se juntaron en el valle de Beracah; porque allí bendijeron á Jehová, y por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel paraje el valle de Beracah, hasta hoy.

And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

Desde donde toda la tropa de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén regresaron a esta ciudad, precedidos de Josafat, alegres sobremanera por haberles concedido el Señor el triunfar de sus enemigos.

Y todo Judá y los de Jerusalem, y Josaphat á la cabeza de ellos, volvieron para tornarse á Jerusalem con gozo, porque Jehová les había dado gozo de sus enemigos.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

Y se derramó el terror del Señor sobre todos los reinos cercanos, así que oyeron cómo el Señor había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel.

Con esto quedó en paz el reino de Josa-fat, y le dio el Señor tranquilidad por todas partes.

Así reinó Josaphat sobre Judá: de treinta y cinco años era cuando comenzó á reinar, y reinó veinte y cinco años en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Azuba, hija de Silhi.

And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

E imitó a su padre Asá, sin degenerar de él en cosa alguna, haciendo lo que era grato a los ojos del Señor.

Y anduvo en el camino de Asa su padre, sin apartarse de él, haciendo lo recto en los ojos de Jehová.

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

Aunque no quitó los lugares altos, y el pueblo no había aún enderezado bien su corazón al Señor Dios de sus padres.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

Y se unió con él para construir naves que hiciesen el viaje a Tarsis, y formaron una armada en Asiongaber.

Mas Eliezer, hijo de Dodau de Maresa, profetizó a Josafat, diciendo: Por cuanto has hecho liga con Ocozías, el Señor ha destruido tus designios. En efecto, las naves dieron al través, y no pudieron hacer el viaje a Tarsis.

Entonces Eliezer hijo de Dodava de Mareosah, profetizó contra Josaphat, diciendo: Por cuanto has hecho compañía con Ochôzías, Jehová destruirá tus obras. Y los navíos se rompieron, y no pudieron ir á Tharsis.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
