La tercera parte de vosotros, así sacerdotes y levitas como porteros que entráis de semana, estará en las puertas; otra tercera parte en la habitación del rey; y la otra tercera en la puerta llamada del Fundamento; el resto de la gente esté en los patios del templo del Señor.

Los levitas, pues, y todo Judá ejecutaron puntualmente las órdenes del sumo sacerdote Joíada. Y tomó cada uno los hombres que tenía a su mando, así los que venían según el turno para hacer la semana, como los que, cumplida su semana, debían salir, porque el sumo sacerdote Joíada no había permitido que se marcharan las compañías de levitas, que al fin de la semana se sucedían unas a otras.
Y los Levitas y todo Judá lo hicieron todo como lo había mandado el sacerdote Joiada: y tomó cada uno los suyos, los que entraban de semana, y los que salían el sábado: porque el sacerdote Joiada no dió licencia á las compañías.

Joíada estableció prefectos de la casa del Señor, los cuales estaban subordinados a los sacerdotes y levitas, que habían sido distribuidos por David para el servicio del templo del Señor, para ofrecer al Señor los holocaustos, según está escrito en la ley de Moisés, con cánticos de alegría, conforme a lo dispuesto por David.
