1*Amatsia était âgé de 25 ans lorsqu’il commença de régner ; et il régna 29 ans à Jérusalem ; et le nom de sa mère était Jehoaddan, de Jérusalem.
2Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Éternel, non pas toutefois d’un cœur parfait.
3Et il arriva que, quand la royauté fut affermie entre ses mains, il fit mourir ses serviteurs qui avaient frappé le roi son père.
4Mais leurs fils, il ne les mit pas à mort, car [il fit] selon ce qui est écrit dans la loi, dans le livre de Moïse, où l’Éternel a commandé, disant : Les pères ne mourront pas pour les fils, et les fils ne mourront pas pour les pères ; car chacun mourra pour son péché.
5Et Amatsia rassembla Juda, et il les rangea selon [leurs] maisons de pères, selon les chefs de milliers, et selon les chefs de centaines, pour tout Juda et Benjamin ; et il fit le recensement de ceux qui étaient âgés de 20 ans et au-dessus : et il trouva 300 000 hommes d’élite, propres pour la guerre, portant la pique et le bouclier.
6Et il prit à sa solde, d’Israël, 100 000 hommes forts et vaillants, pour 100 talents d’argent.
7Et un homme de Dieu vint à lui, disant : Ô roi ! que l’armée d’Israël ne marche pas avec toi ; car l’Éternel n’est pas avec Israël, avec tous les fils d’Éphraïm.
8Que si tu vas, fais-le, fortifie-toi pour la bataille ; Dieu te fera tomber devant l’ennemi ; car c’est en Dieu qu’est le pouvoir pour aider et pour faire tomber.
9Et Amatsia dit à l’homme de Dieu : Mais que faire quant aux 100 talents que j’ai donnés à la troupe d’Israël ? Et l’homme de Dieu dit : Il appartient à l’Éternel de te donner beaucoup plus que cela.
10Et Amatsia sépara la troupe qui lui était venue d’Éphraïm, afin qu’ils s’en aillent chez eux ; et leur colère s’embrasa beaucoup contre Juda, et ils s’en retournèrent chez eux dans une ardente colère.
11Et Amatsia se fortifia, et conduisit son peuple, et s’en alla à la vallée du Sel, et frappa 10 000 [hommes] des fils de Séhir.
12Et les fils de Juda emmenèrent captifs 10 000 hommes, vivants, et les menèrent sur le sommet d’un rocher, et les précipitèrent du sommet du rocher, et ils furent tous mis en pièces.
13Mais ceux de la troupe qu’Amatsia avait renvoyée, afin qu’elle n’aille pas à la guerre avec lui, tombèrent sur les villes de Juda, depuis Samarie jusqu’à Beth-Horon, et y frappèrent 3 000 [hommes] et enlevèrent un grand butin.
14Et il arriva, après qu’Amatsia fut revenu de la défaite des Édomites, qu’il apporta les dieux des fils de Séhir, et se les établit pour dieux, et se prosterna devant eux et leur brûla de l’encens.
15Et la colère de l’Éternel s’embrasa contre Amatsia, et il lui envoya un prophète, et il lui dit : Pourquoi recherches-tu les dieux d’un peuple qui n’ont pas délivré leur peuple de ta main ?
16Et il arriva, comme il parlait au roi, que celui-ci lui dit : Est-ce qu’on t’a fait conseiller du roi ? Désiste-toi. Pourquoi te frapperait-on ? Et le prophète se désista, et dit : Je sais que Dieu a résolu de te perdre, parce que tu as fait cela, et que tu n’as pas écouté mon conseil.
17Et Amatsia, roi de Juda, prit conseil, et envoya vers Joas, fils de Joakhaz, fils de Jéhu, roi d’Israël, disant : Viens, voyons-nous face à face.
18Et Joas, roi d’Israël, envoya vers Amatsia, roi de Juda, disant : L’épine qui est au Liban a envoyé au cèdre qui est au Liban, disant : Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils. Et une bête des champs qui est au Liban a passé, et a foulé l’épine.
19Tu dis : Voici, tu as frappé Édom ! et ton cœur s’est élevé pour que tu te glorifies. Maintenant, reste dans ta maison ; pourquoi te mettrais-tu aux prises avec le malheur et tomberais-tu, toi, et Juda avec toi ?
20Et Amatsia n’écouta pas ; car cela venait de la part de Dieu, afin de les livrer en la main [de leurs ennemis], parce qu’ils avaient recherché les dieux d’Édom.
21Et Joas, roi d’Israël, monta ; et ils se virent face à face, lui et Amatsia, roi de Juda, à Beth-Shémesh, qui est à Juda.
22Et Juda fut battu devant Israël ; et ils s’enfuirent, chacun dans sa tente.
23Et Joas, roi d’Israël, prit Amatsia, roi de Juda, fils de Joas, fils de Joakhaz, à Beth-Shémesh, et l’amena à Jérusalem ; et il abattit la muraille de Jérusalem depuis la porte d’Éphraïm jusqu’à la porte du coin, 400 coudées,
24et [prit] tout l’or et l’argent, et tous les ustensiles qui furent trouvés dans la maison de Dieu, sous la main d’Obed-Édom, et les trésors de la maison du roi, et des otages ; et il s’en retourna à Samarie.
25Et Amatsia, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut 15 ans après la mort de Joas, fils de Joakhaz, roi d’Israël.
26Et le reste des actes d’Amatsia, les premiers et les derniers, voici, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des rois de Juda et d’Israël ?
27Et, depuis le temps où Amatsia se fut détourné de l’Éternel, on fit une conspiration contre lui à Jérusalem, et il s’enfuit à Lakis ; et on envoya après lui à Lakis, et là on le mit à mort.
28Et on le transporta sur des chevaux, et on l’enterra auprès de ses pères dans la ville de Juda.

1DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.
2Hizo él lo recto en los ojos de Jehová aunque no de perfecto corazón.
3Y luego que fué confirmado en el reino, mató á sus siervos que habían muerto al rey su padre;
4Mas no mató á los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
5Juntó luego Amasías á Judá, y con arreglo á las familias púsoles tribunos y centuriones por todo Judá y Benjamín; y tomólos por lista de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir á la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.
6Y de Israel tomó á sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata.
7Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.
8Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.
9Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.
10Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.
11Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal: é hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.
12Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron á la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.
13Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.
14Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.
15Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?
16Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.
17Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.
18Entonces Joas rey de Israel envió á decir á Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija á mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.
19Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?
20Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.
21Subió pues Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse cara á cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, la cual es de Judá.
22Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno á su estancia.
23Y Joas rey de Israel prendió en Beth-semes á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Joachâz, y llevólo á Jerusalem: y derribó el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.
24Asimismo tomó todo el oro y plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvióse á Samaria.
25Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joas, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel.
26Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?
27Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalem; y habiendo él huído á Lachîs, enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron;
28Y trajéronlo en caballos, y sepultáronlo con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.
King James Version
1Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
3Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.
4But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.
5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.
6He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.
7But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
8But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
9And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.
10Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.
11And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.
12And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.
14Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.
15Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?
16And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.
17Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.
18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
19Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
20But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
22And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.
23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
24And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.
25And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?
27Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the LORD they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.
28And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

3Now when the kingdom was established to him, he killed his servants who had killed his father the king.
4But he didn’t put their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”
5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin. He counted them from twenty years old and upward, and found that there were three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go out to war, who could handle spear and shield.
6He also hired one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.
7A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.
8But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”
9Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.”
10Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again. Therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.
11Amaziah took courage, and led his people out and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir.
12The children of Judah carried away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.
13But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much plunder.
14Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them and burned incense to them.
15Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”
16As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”
17Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s look one another in the face.”
18Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled down the thistle.
19You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”
20But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom.
21So Joash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
22Judah was defeated by Israel; so every man fled to his tent.
23Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
