Im Alter von fünfundzwanzig Jahren kam Amazja auf den Thron, und neunundzwanzig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Joaddan und stammte aus Jerusalem.

DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.

Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, jedoch nicht mit ungeteiltem Herzen.

Sobald er nun die Herrschaft fest in Händen hatte, ließ er von seinen Dienern diejenigen hinrichten, die den König, seinen Vater, ermordet hatten.

Aber ihre Söhne ließ er nicht hinrichten, sondern verfuhr so, wie im Gesetz, im Buch Moses, geschrieben steht, wo der HERR ausdrücklich geboten hat: »Väter sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Kinder sterben, und Kinder sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Väter sterben, sondern ein jeder soll nur wegen seines eigenen Vergehens sterben!«

Hierauf bot Amazja die Judäer auf und ließ sie, nach Familien geordnet, unter den Befehlshabern über die Tausendschaften und unter den Befehlshabern über die Hundertschaften antreten, ganz Juda und Benjamin. Als er sie dann von den Zwanzigjährigen an und darüber aufschreiben ließ, stellte er für sie eine Gesamtzahl von 300000 auserlesenen, felddienstfähigen Kriegern fest, die Speer und Schild führten.

Da kam aber ein Gottesmann zu ihm und sagte: »O König! Laß die israelitische Mannschaft nicht mit dir ziehen! Denn der HERR ist nicht mit Israel, mit allen diesen Leuten aus Ephraim.

Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

Sondern ziehe du (allein) und entschlossen in den Kampf: Gott wird dich sonst vor dem Feinde zu Fall bringen; denn Gott ist stark genug, sowohl den Sieg zu verleihen als auch zu Fall zu bringen.«

Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.

But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”

Als nun Amazja den Gottesmann fragte: »Was soll dann aber aus den hundert Talenten werden, die ich der israelitischen Heerschar bereits gegeben habe?«, antwortete der Gottesmann: »Der HERR vermag dir mehr als das zu geben!«

Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.

Da sonderte Amazja die Abteilung, die aus Ephraim zu ihm gekommen war, von seinem Heere ab, damit sie wieder in ihre Heimat zögen. Da gerieten diese aber in heftigen Zorn gegen die Judäer und kehrten in glühendem Zorn in ihre Heimat zurück.

Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.

Amazja aber führte sein Heer voller Mut ins Feld und zog in das Salztal, wo er zehntausend Seiriten erschlug;

zehntausend andere aber, welche die Judäer lebendig gefangen genommen hatten, führten sie auf eine Felsenspitze und stürzten sie von der Felsenspitze hinab, so daß sie allesamt zerschmettert wurden.

Aber die Leute der Heeresabteilung, die Amazja zurückgeschickt hatte, so daß sie an dem Feldzuge nicht hatten teilnehmen dürfen, waren in die Ortschaften Judas von Samaria bis Beth-Horon eingefallen, hatten dreitausend Menschen in ihnen erschlagen und reiche Beute gemacht.

Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.

Als aber Amazja nach dem Siege über die Edomiter heimgekehrt war, stellte er die Götterbilder der Seiriten, die er mitgebracht hatte, als Götter für sich auf, betete sie an und brachte ihnen Opfer dar.

Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.

Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen Amazja, und er sandte einen Propheten zu ihm, der zu ihm sagte: »Warum hältst du dich an die Götter jenes Volkes, die doch ihr eigenes Volk nicht vor deiner Hand haben retten können?«

Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”

Als er aber so zu ihm redete, entgegnete ihm Amazja: »Haben wir dich etwa zum Ratgeber des Königs bestellt? Unterlaß das! Warum willst du geschlagen werden?« Da hörte der Prophet auf, sagte aber noch: »Ich merke wohl, daß Gott dein Verderben beschlossen hat, weil du so gehandelt und auf meinen Rat nicht hast hören wollen!«

Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Nachdem hierauf Amazja, der König von Juda, mit sich zu Rate gegangen war, schickte er Gesandte an den König Joas von Israel, den Sohn des Joahas, des Sohnes Jehus, und ließ ihm sagen: »Komm, wir wollen unsere Kräfte miteinander messen!«

Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.

Da ließ Joas, der König von Israel, dem König Amazja von Juda durch eine Gesandtschaft antworten: »Der Dornstrauch auf dem Libanon sandte zur Zeder auf dem Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: ›Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohne zur Frau!‹ Aber da liefen die wilden Tiere auf dem Libanon über den Dornstrauch hin und zertraten ihn.

Du denkst, du habest ja die Edomiter geschlagen, und da reißt dein Mut dich fort, dir noch mehr Ruhm zu erwerben. Bleibe nur (ruhig) zu Hause: warum willst du das Unglück herausfordern, daß du zu Fall kommst und Juda mit dir?«

Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?

Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”

Aber Amazja wollte sich nicht warnen lassen; denn es war von Gott so gefügt, damit er sie den Feinden preisgäbe, weil sie sich den Göttern der Edomiter zugewandt hatten.

Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

Da wurden die Judäer von den Israeliten geschlagen, und ein jeder floh in seine Heimat.

Seit der Zeit, da Amazja treulos vom HERRN abgefallen war, bestand in Jerusalem eine Verschwörung gegen ihn. Er floh nach Lachis, doch man sandte Leute nach Lachis hinter ihm her und ließ ihn dort ermorden.
