Amatsia aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò ventinove anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Jehoaddan, da Gerusalemme.

DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.

Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Egli fece ciò ch’è giusto agli occhi dell’Eterno, ma non di tutto cuore.

Ma non fece morire i loro figliuoli, conformandosi a quello ch’è scritto nella legge, nel libro di Mosè, dove l’Eterno ha dato questo comandamento: “I padri non saranno messi a morte a cagion de’ figliuoli, né i figliuoli saranno messi a morte a cagion dei padri; ma ciascuno sarà messo a morte a cagione del proprio peccato”.

Mas no mató á los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.

Poi Amatsia radunò quei di Giuda, e li distribuì secondo le loro case patriarcali sotto capi di migliaia e sotto capi di centinaia, per tutto Giuda e Beniamino; ne fece il censimento dall’età di venti anni in su, e trovò trecentomila uomini scelti, atti alla guerra e capaci di maneggiare la lancia e lo scudo.

Juntó luego Amasías á Judá, y con arreglo á las familias púsoles tribunos y centuriones por todo Judá y Benjamín; y tomólos por lista de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir á la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.

Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

E assoldò anche centomila uomini d’Israele, forti e valorosi, per cento talenti d’argento.

Ma un uomo di Dio venne a lui, e gli disse: “O re, l’esercito d’Israele non vada teco, poiché l’Eterno non è con Israele, con tutti questi figliuoli d’Efraim!

Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.

Ma, se vuoi andare, portati pure valorosamente nella battaglia; ma Iddio ti abbatterà dinanzi al nemico; perché Dio ha il potere di soccorrere e di abbattere”.

Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.

But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”

Amatsia disse all’uomo di Dio: “E che fare circa que’ cento talenti che ho dati all’esercito d’Israele?” L’uomo di Dio rispose: “L’Eterno è in grado di darti molto più di questo”.

Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.

Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “The LORD is able to give you much more than this.”

Allora Amatsia separò l’esercito che gli era venuto da Efraim, affinché se ne tornasse al suo paese; ma questa gente fu gravemente irritata contro Giuda, e se ne tornò a casa, accesa d’ira.

Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.

Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.

Amatsia, preso animo, si mise alla testa del suo popolo, andò nella valle del Sale, e sconfisse diecimila uomini de’ figliuoli di Seir;

Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal: é hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.

And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

e i figliuoli di Giuda ne catturarono vivi altri diecimila; li menarono in cima alla Ròcca, e li precipitaron giù dall’alto della Ròcca, sì che tutti rimasero sfracellati.

Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron á la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.

Ma gli uomini dell’esercito che Amatsia avea licenziati perché non andassero seco alla guerra, piombarono sulle città di Giuda, da Samaria fino a Beth-Horon; ne uccisero tremila abitanti, e portaron via molta preda.

Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.

But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.

E Amatsia, tornato che fu dalla sconfitta degl’Idumei, si fece portare gli dèi de’ figliuoli di Seir, li stabilì come suoi dèi, si prostrò dinanzi ad essi, e bruciò de’ profumi in loro onore.

Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.

Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

Per il che l’Eterno s’accese d’ira contro Amatsia, e gli mandò un profeta per dirgli: “Perché hai tu cercato gli dèi di questo popolo, che non hanno liberato il popolo loro dalla tua mano?”

Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”

E mentr’egli parlava al re, questi gli disse: “T’abbiam noi forse fatto consigliere del re? Vattene! Perché vorresti essere ucciso?” Allora il profeta se ne andò, dicendo: “Io so che Dio ha deciso di distruggerti, perché hai fatto questo, e non hai dato ascolto al mio consiglio”.

Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Allora Amatsia, re di Giuda, dopo aver preso consiglio, inviò de’ messi a Joas, figliuolo di Joachaz, figliuolo di Jehu, re d’Israele, per dirgli: “Vieni, mettiamoci a faccia a faccia!”

Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.

Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.

Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s look one another in the face.”

E Joas, re d’Israele, fece dire ad Amatsia, re di Giuda: “Lo spino del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Da’ la tua figliuola per moglie al mio figliuolo. Ma le bestie selvagge del Libano passarono, e calpestarono lo spino.

Entonces Joas rey de Israel envió á decir á Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija á mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.

And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

Tu hai detto: Ecco, io ho sconfitto gl’Idumei! e il tuo cuore, reso orgoglioso, t’ha portato a gloriarti. Stattene a casa tua. Perché impegnarti in una disgraziata impresa che menerebbe alla ruina te e Giuda con te?”

Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?

Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”

Ma Amatsia non gli volle dar retta; perché la cosa era diretta da Dio affinché fossero dati in man del nemico, perché avean cercato gli dèi di Edom.

Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

Allora Joas, re d’Israele, salì, ed egli ed Amatsia, re di Giuda, si trovarono a faccia a faccia a Beth-Scemesh, che apparteneva a Giuda.

Subió pues Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse cara á cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, la cual es de Judá.

So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

Giuda rimase sconfitto da Israele, e que’ di Giuda fuggirono, ognuno alla sua tenda.

Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno á su estancia.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

E Joas, re d’Israele, fece prigioniero a Beth-Scemesh Amatsia, re di Giuda, figliuolo di Joas, figliuolo di Joachaz; lo menò a Gerusalemme, e fece una breccia di quattrocento cubiti nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim alla porta dell’angolo.

Y Joas rey de Israel prendió en Beth-semes á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Joachâz, y llevólo á Jerusalem: y derribó el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.

And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

E prese tutto l’oro e l’argento e tutti i vasi che si trovavano nella casa di Dio in custodia di Obed-Edom, e i tesori della casa del re; prese pure degli ostaggi, e se ne tornò a Samaria.

Asimismo tomó todo el oro y plata, y todos los vasos que se hallaron en la casa de Dios en casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y volvióse á Samaria.

And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

Il rimanente delle azioni di Amatsia, le prime e le ultime, si trova scritto nel libro dei re di Giuda e d’Israele.

Dopo che Amatsia ebbe abbandonato l’Eterno, fu ordita contro di lui una congiura a Gerusalemme, ed egli fuggì a Lakis; ma lo fecero inseguire fino a Lakis, e quivi fu messo a morte.

Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, maquinaron contra él conjuración en Jerusalem; y habiendo él huído á Lachîs, enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron;
