De veinticinco años era Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén . Se llamó su madre Joadán, natural de Jerusalén .

DE VEINTICINCO años era Amasías cuando comenzó á reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.

Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Y obró lo que es bueno en la presencia del Señor; mas no con un corazón perfecto.

Hizo él lo recto en los ojos de Jehová aunque no de perfecto corazón.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

Y luego que vio asegurado su imperio, hizo degollar a los criados que habían asesinado al rey su padre;

Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.

pero no mató a sus hijos, conformándose con lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde el Señor mandó expresamente: No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su pecado personal.

But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

But he didn’t put their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”

Congregó después Amasías a Judá, y según la distribución de familias, puso tribunos y centuriones en todo Judá y Benjamín; e hizo el censo de su población desde veinte años arriba y halló trescientos mil mozos hábiles para la guerra, y el manejo de lanza y escudo.

Juntó luego Amasías á Judá, y con arreglo á las familias púsoles tribunos y centuriones por todo Judá y Benjamín; y tomólos por lista de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir á la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo.

Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

Tomó también a su sueldo cien mil valientes de Israel, por cien talentos de plata.

Entonces vino a encontrarle un varón de Dios, y le dijo: Oh rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel, porque el Señor no está con Israel, ni con ninguno de los hijos de Efraín.

Mas un varón de Dios vino á él, diciéndole: Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel; porque Jehová no es con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Ephraim.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the LORD is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

Que si piensas que en las guerras depende todo de la fuerza del ejército, Dios hará que tú seas vencido de los enemigos, porque en mano de Dios está el dar auxilio o poner en fuga.

Pero si tú vas, si lo haces, y te esfuerzas para pelear, Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos; porque en Dios está la fortaleza, ó para ayudar, ó para derribar.

But if thou wilt go, do it, be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”

Respondió Amasías al varón de Dios: ¿Pues y los cien talentos que he dado a los soldados de Israel? Le replicó el varón de Dios: Tiene el Señor de donde poder darte mucho más que eso.

Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios: ¿Qué pues se hará de cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel? Y el varón de Dios respondió: De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The LORD is able to give thee much more than this.

Separó, pues, Amasías el ejército que le había venido de Efraín, para que se volviese a su país; y regresaron estas tropas a su tierra muy irritados contra Judá.

Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido á él de Ephraim, para que se fuesen á sus casas: y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y volviéronse á sus casas encolerizados.

Amasías lleno de confianza puso en movimiento su gente, y se dirigió al valle de las Salinas, donde derrotó a diez mil de los hijos de Seir o idumeos.

Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal: é hirió de los hijos de Seir diez mil.

And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

Los hijos de Judá hicieron prisioneros a otros diez mil hombres, y los llevaron a la cima de un despeñadero, desde cuya altura los precipitaron, reventando todos ellos.

Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron á la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos.

Pero aquel ejército que había despedido Amasías para no llevarlo consigo a la guerra, invadió las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-Horón; y habiendo pasado a cuchillo a tres mil personas, recogió mucho botín.

Empero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, porque no fuesen con él á la guerra, derramáronse sobre las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Beth-oron, é hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.

But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.

Amasías después de la derrota de los idumeos, trayéndose consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, los tomó por dioses suyos, y los adoraba y ofrecía incienso.

Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los Idumeos, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y púsoselos para sí por dioses, y encorvóse delante de ellos, y quemóles perfumes.

Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

Por lo cual enojado el Señor contra Amasías, le envió un profeta que le dijese: ¿Cómo has adorado tú a unos dioses que no han podido librar a su pueblo de tus manos?

Encendióse por tanto el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió á él un profeta, que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de gente, que no libraron á su pueblo de tus manos?

Wherefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”

Y diciéndole esto el profeta, le respondió Amasías: ¿Eres tú, por ventura, consejero del rey? Calla, si no quieres te mande quitar a vida. Mas el profeta dijo al partir: Sé que Dios ha decretado hacerte morir a ti por esa maldad que has cometido, y porque además no has dado oído a mis consejos.

Y hablándole el profeta estas cosas, él le respondió: ¿Hante puesto á ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿por qué quieres que te maten? Y al cesar, el profeta dijo luego: Yo sé que Dios ha acordado destruirte, porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste á mi consejo.

And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

As he talked with him, the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Tomó, pues, Amasías, rey de Judá, una pésima resolución, y envió a decir a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, como desafiándole: Ven, y nos veremos las caras.

Y Amasías rey de Judá, habido su consejo, envió á decir á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel: Ven, y veámonos cara á cara.

Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.

Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come! Let’s look one another in the face.”

Mas éste le volvió a enviar los mensajeros, diciendo: El cardo que se crece en el Líbano, envió a decir al cedro del Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo; y he aquí que las bestias que había en los bosques del Líbano, pasaron y hollaron al cardo.

Entonces Joas rey de Israel envió á decir á Amasías rey de Judá: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: Da tu hija á mi hijo por mujer. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo.

And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

Tú has dicho: Yo he derrotado a los idumeos; y con esto se ha engreído y ensoberbecido tu corazón; estáte quieto en tu casa; ¿a qué propósito provocas contra ti los desastres para perderte tú y Judá contigo?

Tú dices: He aquí he herido á Edom; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte: ahora estáte en tu casa; ¿para qué te entrometes en mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?

Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you and Judah with you?’”

No quiso escuchar Amasías; porque era disposición del Señor que fuese entregado en manos de sus enemigos, a causa de los dioses de Edom que adoraba.

Mas Amasías no quiso oir; porque estaba de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

Con esto salió a campaña Joás rey de Israel, y se hallaron los dos uno enfrente del otro. Estaba acampado Amasías, rey de Judá, en Betsames de Judá;

Subió pues Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse cara á cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, la cual es de Judá.

So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

y se amilanó Judá a la vista de Israel, y huyó a sus estancias.

Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno á su estancia.

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

Y Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, fue hecho prisionero en Betsames por Joás, rey de Israel, quien lo llevó a Jerusalén , cuya muralla derribó por espacio de cuatrocientos codos, desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del Angulo.

Y Joas rey de Israel prendió en Beth-semes á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Joachâz, y llevólo á Jerusalem: y derribó el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta del ángulo, cuatrocientos codos.

And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

Después que se apartó del Señor, tramaron una conjuración contra él en Jerusalén ; y habiendo huido a Laquis, despacharon gentes para que allí lo asesinasen, como lo hicieron.
