1Acaz tenía veinte años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó dieciséis años en Jerusalén. A diferencia de su antepasado David, él no hizo lo que era agradable a los ojos de Yahvé.
2Al contrario, siguió el mal ejemplo de los reyes de Israel, y hasta mandó hacer imágenes de metal para adorar a los baales.
3Quemó incienso en el valle de Ben Hinom, y hasta sacrificó a sus propios hijos quemándolos en el fuego, practicando las mismas horribles costumbres de las naciones paganas que Yahvé había expulsado de esa tierra.
4También ofrecía sacrificios y quemaba incienso en los santuarios de las colinas y debajo de cualquier árbol frondoso.
5Por esta razón, Yahvé su Dios permitió que el rey de Siria lo derrotara. Los sirios le causaron muchas bajas, tomaron muchísimos prisioneros y se los llevaron a Damasco. También Dios lo entregó en manos del rey de Israel, quien le causó una terrible derrota.
6Peka hijo de Remalías, rey de Israel, mató a ciento veinte mil soldados valientes de Judá en un solo día, porque el pueblo había abandonado a Yahvé, el Dios de sus antepasados.
7Además, Zicri, un gran guerrero de la tribu de Efraín, mató a Maasías, hijo del rey; a Azricam, el administrador del palacio; y a Elcaná, que era el segundo en autoridad después del rey.
8El ejército de Israel tomó a doscientos mil prisioneros de Judá, incluyendo mujeres, niños y niñas. También les robaron muchísimo botín y se lo llevaron todo a Samaria.
9Pero en Samaria vivía un profeta de Yahvé llamado Oded. Él salió a recibir al ejército de Israel cuando regresaba victorioso, y les dijo: “¡Miren! Yahvé, el Dios de sus antepasados, estaba enojado con Judá y por eso los entregó en las manos de ustedes; pero ustedes los han masacrado con una furia tan terrible que ha llegado hasta el cielo.
10Y ahora resulta que ustedes pretenden esclavizar a los hombres y mujeres de Judá y de Jerusalén. ¿Acaso no se dan cuenta de que ustedes mismos son culpables de pecar contra Yahvé su Dios?
11Escúchenme bien: ¡devuelvan ahora mismo a los prisioneros que tomaron de sus propios hermanos! Si no lo hacen, el terrible enojo de Yahvé caerá sobre ustedes”.
12Entonces algunos líderes de la tribu de Efraín, que eran Azarías hijo de Johanán, Berequías hijo de Mesilemot, Ezequías hijo de Salum, y Amasa hijo de Hadlai, se enfrentaron a los soldados que regresaban de la guerra.
13Les dijeron: “¡No traigan a esos prisioneros aquí! Lo que ustedes quieren hacer solo nos hará pecar más contra Yahvé. Ya de por sí nuestra culpa es muy grande, y el enojo de Dios contra Israel es terrible; si hacen esto, solo aumentarán nuestros pecados y nuestra culpa”.
14Entonces los soldados dejaron a los prisioneros y el botín allí mismo, frente a los líderes y a todo el pueblo reunido.
15Luego, los líderes que fueron mencionados por nombre se hicieron cargo de los prisioneros. Tomaron ropa del botín y vistieron a todos los que estaban desnudos; les dieron ropa, sandalias, comida y bebida, y les curaron las heridas con aceite. A los que estaban más débiles los subieron en burros, y llevaron a todos a Jericó, la Ciudad de las Palmeras, para entregarlos a sus familiares. Después, los líderes regresaron a Samaria.
16En ese tiempo, el rey Acaz les mandó a pedir ayuda a los reyes de Asiria.
17Y es que los edomitas habían vuelto a invadir y atacar a Judá, y se habían llevado prisioneros.
18Los filisteos también habían atacado las ciudades de la Sefelá y la zona sur de Judá. Habían capturado Bet Semes, Ajalón, Gederot, Soco, Timná y Gimzo, junto con las aldeas de alrededor, y se quedaron a vivir allí.
19Yahvé humilló a Judá de esta manera por culpa de Acaz, rey de Judá, porque él había llevado al pueblo al desastre y le había sido muy infiel a Yahvé.
20El rey Tiglat Pileser de Asiria sí fue a ver a Acaz, pero en lugar de ayudarlo, le causó más problemas.
21Aunque Acaz vació los tesoros del templo de Yahvé, del palacio real y de las casas de sus príncipes para pagarle tributo al rey de Asiria, no le sirvió de nada.
22Y para colmo, en el momento de mayor angustia, el rey Acaz le fue aún más infiel a Yahvé.
23Empezó a ofrecerles sacrificios a los dioses de Damasco, los mismos que lo habían derrotado, porque pensaba: “Como los dioses de Siria ayudaron a sus reyes, voy a ofrecerles sacrificios para que me ayuden a mí también”. ¡Pero esos dioses fueron su perdición y la de todo Israel!
24Acaz juntó todos los utensilios del templo de Dios y los hizo pedazos. Luego cerró las puertas del templo de Yahvé, y mandó construir altares paganos en cada esquina de Jerusalén.
25En todas y cada una de las ciudades de Judá, mandó construir santuarios en las colinas para quemarles incienso a otros dioses, provocando así la ira de Yahvé, el Dios de sus antepasados.
26El resto de la historia de Acaz, todo lo que hizo de principio a fin, está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
27Cuando Acaz murió, fue enterrado en la ciudad de Jerusalén, pero no lo pusieron en las tumbas de los reyes de Israel. Y su hijo Ezequías reinó en su lugar.

1DE VEINTE años era Achâz cuando comenzó á reinar, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalem: mas no hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, como David su padre.
2Antes anduvo en los caminos de los reyes de Israel, y además hizo imágenes de fundición á los Baales.
3Quemó también perfume en el valle de los hijos de Hinnom, y quemó sus hijos por fuego, conforme á las abominaciones de las gentes que Jehová había echado delante de los hijos de Israel.
4Asimismo sacrificó y quemó perfumes en los altos, y en los collados, y debajo de todo árbol espeso.
5Por lo cual Jehová su Dios lo entregó en manos del rey de los Siros, los cuales le derrotaron, y cogieron de él una grande presa, que llevaron á Damasco. Fué también entregado en manos del rey de Israel, el cual lo batió con gran mortandad.
6Porque Peca, hijo de Remalías mató en Judá en un día ciento y veinte mil, todos hombres valientes; por cuanto habían dejado á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
7Asimismo Zichri, hombre poderoso de Ephraim, mató á Maasías hijo del rey, y á Azricam su mayordomo, y á Elcana, segundo después del rey.
8Tomaron también cautivos los hijos de Israel de sus hermanos doscientos mil, mujeres, muchachos, y muchachas, á más de haber saqueado de ellos un gran despojo, el cual trajeron á Samaria.
9Había entonces allí un profeta de Jehová, que se llamaba Obed, el cual salió delante del ejército cuando entraba en Samaria, y díjoles: He aquí Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, por el enojo contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos; y vosotros los habéis muerto con ira, que hasta el cielo ha llegado.
10Y ahora habéis determinado sujetar á vosotros á Judá y á Jerusalem por siervos y siervas: mas ¿no habéis vosotros pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios?
11Oidme pues ahora, y volved á enviar los cautivos que habéis tomado de vuestros hermanos: porque Jehová está airado contra vosotros.
12Levantáronse entonces algunos varones de los principales de los hijos de Ephraim, Azarías hijo de Johanán, y Berechîas hijo de Mesillemoth, y Ezechîas hijo de Sallum, y Amasa hijo de Hadlai, contra los que venían de la guerra.
13Y dijéronles: No metáis acá la cautividad; porque el pecado contra Jehová será sobre nosotros. Vosotros tratáis de añadir sobre nuestros pecados y sobre nuestras culpas, siendo asaz grande nuestro delito, y la ira del furor sobre Israel.
14Entonces el ejército dejó los cautivos y la presa delante de los príncipes y de toda la multitud.
15Y levantáronse los varones nombrados, y tomaron los cautivos, y vistieron del despojo á los que de ellos estaban desnudos; vistiéronlos y calzáronlos, y diéronles de comer y de beber, y ungiéronlos, y condujeron en asnos á todos los flacos, y lleváronlos hasta Jericó, ciudad de las palmas, cerca de sus hermanos; y ellos se volvieron á Samaria.
16En aquel tiempo envió á pedir el rey Achâz á los reyes de Asiria que le ayudasen:
17Porque á más de esto, los Idumeos habían venido y herido á los de Judá, y habían llevado cautivos.
18Asimismo los Filisteos se habían derramado por las ciudades de la llanura, y al mediodía de Judá, y habían tomado á Beth-semes, á Ajalón, Gederoth, y Sochô con sus aldeas, Timna también con sus aldeas, y Gimzo con sus aldeas; y habitaban en ellas.
19Porque Jehová había humillado á Judá por causa de Achâz rey de Israel: por cuanto él había desnudado á Judá, y rebeládose gravemente contra Jehová.
20Y vino contra él Tilgath-pilneser, rey de los Asirios: pues lo redujo á estrechez, y no lo fortificó.
21Aunque despojó Achâz la casa de Jehová, y la casa real, y las de los príncipes, para dar al rey de los Asirios, con todo eso él no le ayudó.
22Además el rey Achâz en el tiempo que aquél le apuraba, añadió prevaricación contra Jehová;
23Porque sacrificó á los dioses de Damasco que le habían herido, y dijo: Pues que los dioses de los reyes de Siria les ayudan, yo también sacrificaré á ellos para que me ayuden; bien que fueron éstos su ruina, y la de todo Israel.
24A más de eso recogió Achâz los vasos de la casa de Dios, y quebrólos, y cerró las puertas de la casa de Jehová, é hízose altares en Jerusalem en todos los rincones.
25Hizo también altos en todas las ciudades de Judá, para quemar perfumes á los dioses ajenos, provocando así á ira á Jehová el Dios de sus padres.
26Lo demás de sus hechos, y todos sus caminos, primeros y postreros, he aquí ello está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
27Y durmió Achâz con sus padres, y sepultáronlo en la ciudad de Jerusalem: mas no le metieron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Ezechîas su hijo.

1Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: but he did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD, like David his father:
2For he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and made also molten images for Baalim.
3Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
4He sacrificed also and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.
5Wherefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.
6For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers.
7And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king.
8And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
9But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because the LORD God of your fathers was wroth with Judah, he hath delivered them into your hand, and ye have slain them in a rage that reacheth up unto heaven.
10And now ye purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for bondmen and bondwomen unto you: but are there not with you, even with you, sins against the LORD your God?
11Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.
12Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war,
13And said unto them, Ye shall not bring in the captives hither: for whereas we have offended against the LORD already, ye intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.
14So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.
15And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon asses, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren: then they returned to Samaria.
16At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.
17For again the Edomites had come and smitten Judah, and carried away captives.
18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the low country, and of the south of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Ajalon, and Gederoth, and Shocho with the villages thereof, and Timnah with the villages thereof, Gimzo also and the villages thereof: and they dwelt there.
19For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.
20And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came unto him, and distressed him, but strengthened him not.
21For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.
22And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this is that king Ahaz.
23For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
24And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
25And in every several city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD God of his fathers.
26Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem: but they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

13and said to them, “You must not bring in the captives here, for you intend that which will bring on us a trespass against the LORD, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

15The men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.
16At that time King Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.
17For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives.
18The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco with its villages, Timnah with its villages, and also Gimzo and its villages; and they lived there.
19For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he acted without restraint in Judah and trespassed severely against the LORD.
20Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him.
21For Ahaz took away a portion out of the LORD’s house, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but it didn’t help him.
22In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against the LORD, this same King Ahaz.
23For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus which had defeated him. He said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.
24Ahaz gathered together the vessels of God’s house, cut the vessels of God’s house in pieces, and shut up the doors of the LORD’s house; and he made himself altars in every corner of Jerusalem.
25In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers, to anger.
26Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, because they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.
