Después de todo esto y de ver la fidelidad de Ezequías, el rey Senaquerib de Asiria invadió Judá. Acampó frente a las ciudades fortificadas y dio la orden de atacarlas y conquistarlas.
DESPUÉS de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campo contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó de entrar en ellas.

Ezequías se armó de valor y reparó todos los tramos rotos de la muralla, levantó torres sobre ella, construyó otra muralla exterior, reforzó la defensa del terraplén en la Ciudad de David, y mandó fabricar muchísimas armas y escudos.
Alentóse así Ezechîas, y edificó todos los muros caídos, é hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por de fuera: fortificó además á Millo en la ciudad de David, é hizo muchas espadas y paveses.

Esforzaos y confortaos; no temáis, ni hayáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más son con nosotros que con él.
Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

Un tiempo después, mientras el rey Senaquerib de Asiria estaba con todas sus tropas atacando la ciudad de Laquis, envió a sus funcionarios a Jerusalén con este mensaje para Ezequías y para toda la gente de Judá que estaba allí:

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

¡Si fue el mismo Ezequías quien quitó los santuarios y altares de ese Dios, y les ordenó a ustedes adorar y quemar incienso en un solo altar!

De todos los dioses de esas naciones que mis antepasados destruyeron, ¿cuál de ellos pudo salvar a su pueblo? ¿Qué les hace pensar que el Dios de ustedes podrá salvarlos de mí?

Los funcionarios de Senaquerib siguieron diciendo barbaridades contra Yahvé Dios y contra su siervo Ezequías.

Senaquerib también escribió cartas para insultar a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel. En ellas decía: “Así como los dioses de las demás naciones no pudieron salvar a sus pueblos de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezequías podrá salvar al suyo”.
Además de esto escribió letras en que blasfemaba á Jehová el Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de las gentes de los países no pudieron librar su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezechîas librará al suyo de mis manos.
He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
Los asirios les gritaban muy fuerte y en hebreo a los habitantes de Jerusalén que estaban sobre la muralla, para asustarlos y meterles terror, y así poder conquistar la ciudad más fácilmente.
Y clamaron á gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalem que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.
Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

Hablaban del Dios de Jerusalén como si fuera igual a los dioses de los demás pueblos del mundo, que no son más que objetos hechos por manos humanas.

Ante esta situación, el rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amoz oraron y clamaron al cielo pidiendo ayuda.

Y Yahvé envió un ángel que aniquiló a todos los guerreros, oficiales y comandantes en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Así que Senaquerib tuvo que regresar a su país con la cara llena de vergüenza. Un día, mientras estaba en el templo de su dios, sus propios hijos lo asesinaron allí mismo a espada.

Por aquel tiempo, Ezequías se enfermó gravemente y estuvo a punto de morir. Oró a Yahvé, y Dios le respondió dándole una señal milagrosa.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

También construyó graneros para sus enormes cosechas de trigo, vino nuevo y aceite; así como establos y corrales para su inmensa cantidad de ganado y rebaños.
Asimismo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino, y aceite; establos para toda suerte de bestias, y majadas para los ganados.
