2 Crónicas 32

Passado algum tempo, depois desse bom trabalho do rei Ezequias, Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, invadiu Judá e cercou as cidades fortificadas para tomá-las.

DESPUÉS de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campo contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó de entrar en ellas.

After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.

Quando ficou claro que Senaqueribe tinha intenções de atacar Jerusalém,

Viendo pues Ezechîas la venida de Sennachêrib, y su aspecto de combatir á Jerusalem,

Ezequias reuniu seus oficiais e comandantes do conselho de guerra para decidir sobre a ideia de fechar a passagem das águas das fontes que havia fora da cidade; e eles concordaram.

Tuvo su consejo con sus príncipes y con sus valerosos, sobre cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.

He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.

Assim, eles organizaram uma enorme equipe de trabalho para fechar as fontes de águas e o riacho que atravessava os campos. “Por que deveria o rei da Assíria vir e encontrar essa água?”, perguntavam.

Juntóse pues mucho pueblo, y cegaron todas las fuentes, y el arroyo que derrama por en medio del territorio, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vinieren?

So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?”

Então Ezequias deixou ainda mais fortes as suas defesas, reparando os trechos onde o muro estava quebrado, e acrescentando posições de grande resistência, além de construir outro muro por fora do primeiro. Também reforçou o forte de Milo, na Cidade de Davi, e fabricou muitas armas e escudos.

Alentóse así Ezechîas, y edificó todos los muros caídos, é hizo alzar las torres, y otro muro por de fuera: fortificó además á Millo en la ciudad de David, é hizo muchas espadas y paveses.

Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

Formou um exército e nomeou oficiais, e os reuniu na praça junto à porta da cidade, animando-os com estas palavras:

Y puso capitanes de guerra sobre el pueblo, é hízolos reunir así en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y hablóles al corazón de ellos, diciendo:

And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,

“Sejam fortes e valentes; não tenham medo nem desanimem diante do rei da Assíria ou do seu poderoso exército, pois há alguém que está conosco e que é muito mais poderoso do que ele!

Esforzaos y confortaos; no temáis, ni hayáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más son con nosotros que con él.

Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:

“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.

O rei da Assíria conta apenas com o mero poder humano, enquanto conosco está o Senhor, o nosso Deus, para lutar as nossas batalhas!” E o povo sentiu-se encorajado com o que Ezequias, rei de Judá, disse.

Con él es el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros Jehová nuestro Dios para ayudarnos, y pelear nuestras batallas. Y afirmóse el pueblo sobre las palabras de Ezechîas rey de Judá.

With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

Então Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, enquanto cercava a cidade de Láquis, mandou representantes com esta mensagem ao rei Ezequias e aos moradores de Jerusalém:

Después de esto Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, estando él sobre Lachîs y con él toda su potencia, envió sus siervos á Jerusalem, para decir á Ezechîas rey de Judá, y á todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalem:

After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,

“Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, pergunta: ‘Em que vocês baseiam a sua confiança para poderem resistir ao meu cerco de Jerusalém?

Así ha dicho Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros para estar cercados en Jerusalem?

Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

O rei Ezequias está tentando convencer vocês, dizendo: O Senhor, o nosso Deus, nos salvará das mãos do rei da Assíria. Ele os está enganando para que morram de fome e de sede.

¿No os engaña Ezechîas para entregaros á muerte, á hambre, y á sed, diciendo: Jehová nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?

Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’?

Vocês não reconhecem que foi o próprio Ezequias quem destruiu todos os altares desse deus, e ordenou a Judá e a Jerusalém: Vocês devem usar somente um altar, e queimar incenso somente nesse altar?

¿No es Ezechîas el que ha quitado sus altos y sus altares, y dijo á Judá y á Jerusalem: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis perfume?

Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

“ ‘Vocês não reconhecem que eu e os outros reis da Assíria antes de mim sempre vencemos qualquer nação que atacamos? Os deuses daquelas nações não puderam fazer nada para salvar as suas terras!

¿No habéis sabido lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho á todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las gentes de las tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?

Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?

Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?

De todos os deuses das nações que os meus antepassados destruíram, qual deles pôde resistir com sucesso ao nosso ataque? Que é que faz vocês pensarem que seu Deus pode ajudá-los?

¿Qué dios hubo de todos los dioses de aquellas gentes que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiese salvar su pueblo de mis manos? ¿Por qué podrá vuestro Dios libraros de mi mano?

Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?

Portanto, não deixem Ezequias enganar vocês dessa maneira! Não acreditem nele e não se deixem convencer. E digo de novo: Nenhum deus de nenhuma nação foi capaz de salvar o seu povo das minhas mãos, ou das mãos dos meus antepassados. E muito menos o Deus de vocês conseguirá livrá-los das minhas mãos!’ ”

Ahora pues, no os engañe Ezechîas, ni os persuada tal cosa, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?

Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?

Dessa maneira, os representantes de Senaqueribe zombaram de Deus, o Senhor, e de Ezequias, servo de Deus.

Y otras cosas hablaron sus siervos contra el Dios Jehová, y contra su siervo Ezechîas.

And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

O rei Senaqueribe também mandou cartas insultando o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, e desafiando com as seguintes palavras: “Os deuses de todas as outras nações não conseguiram salvar os seus povos da minha mão, e o Deus de Ezequias vai fracassar da mesma maneira”.

Además de esto escribió letras en que blasfemaba á Jehová el Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra él, diciendo: Como los dioses de las gentes de los países no pudieron librar su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezechîas librará al suyo de mis manos.

He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.

He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”

Os mensageiros que trouxeram as cartas gritavam ameaças, na língua dos judeus, ao povo que estava sobre os muros da cidade, tentando colocar medo neles e deixá-los desanimados para defenderem a cidade.

Y clamaron á gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalem que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.

Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

Esses mensageiros falaram a respeito do Deus de Jerusalém, como se ele fosse um dos deuses dos outros povos da terra, que são ídolos feitos por mãos humanas!

Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalem, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.

And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

Então o rei Ezequias e o profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz, clamaram em oração ao Deus dos céus.

And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

E o Senhor mandou um anjo que destruiu o exército assírio com todos os seus soldados, oficiais e generais! Dessa maneira, Senaqueribe voltou envergonhado para a sua própria terra. E quando ele chegou ao templo do seu deus, alguns de seus próprios filhos o mataram ali à espada.

Y Jehová envió un ángel, el cual hirió á todo valiente y esforzado, y á los jefes y capitanes en el campo del rey de Asiria. Volvióse por tanto con vergüenza de rostro á su tierra; y entrando en el templo de su dios, allí lo mataron á cuchillo los que habían salido de sus entrañas.

And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

Foi assim que o Senhor salvou Ezequias e o povo de Jerusalém das mãos de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, e de todos os demais inimigos. E, finalmente, havia paz em todo o seu reino.

Así salvó Jehová á Ezechîas y á los moradores de Jerusalem de las manos de Sennachêrib rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos: y preservólos de todas partes.

Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.

Muitos chegavam a Jerusalém trazendo ofertas para o Senhor e presentes valiosos para o rei Ezequias, rei de Judá. Daquela ocasião em diante, o rei Ezequias se tornou muito respeitado entre as nações vizinhas.

Y muchos trajeron ofrenda á Jehová á Jerusalem, y á Ezechîas rey de Judá, ricos dones; y fué muy grande delante de todas las gentes después de esto.

And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.

Mas naquele tempo Ezequias ficou muito doente, a ponto de morrer. Então ele orou ao Senhor, que lhe respondeu com um milagre.

En aquel tiempo Ezechîas enfermó de muerte: y oró á Jehová, el cual le respondió, y dióle una señal.

In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.

Contudo, Ezequias não correspondeu com verdadeira ação de graças e louvor, pois ele ficou orgulhoso, e a ira do Senhor se acendeu contra ele, sobre Judá e sobre Jerusalém.

Mas Ezechîas no pagó conforme al bien que le había sido hecho: antes se enalteció su corazón, y fué la ira contra él, y contra Judá y Jerusalem.

But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

Mas, por fim, Ezequias e os moradores de Jerusalém se humilharam, e por isso a ira do Senhor não caiu sobre eles durante o reinado de Ezequias.

Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

Ezequias se tornou muito rico e era muitíssimo honrado. Ele construiu depósitos especiais para guardar sua prata, seu ouro, as pedras preciosas, os perfumes e muitos objetos de valor.

Y tuvo Ezechîas riquezas y gloria mucha en gran manera; é hízose de tesoros de plata y oro, de piedras preciosas, de aromas, de escudos, y de todas alhajas de desear;

And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;

Também construiu muitos armazéns para os cereais, para o vinho novo e azeite de oliva, além de estábulos, com muitas cocheiras para os animais e currais para os rebanhos de ovelhas e cabras.

Asimismo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino, y aceite; establos para toda suerte de bestias, y majadas para los ganados.

Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.

Ezequias construiu muitas cidades e possuía muitos rebanhos, porque Deus concedeu a ele grande riqueza.

Hízose también ciudades, y hatos de ovejas y de vacas en gran copia; porque Dios le había dado mucha hacienda.

Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.

Ezequias fez uma represa das águas da fonte superior de Giom e, por meio de um canal, trouxe as águas para o lado oeste da Cidade de Davi. Ele foi bem-sucedido em tudo que fez.

Este Ezechîas tapó los manaderos de las aguas de Gihón la de arriba, y encaminólas abajo al occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fué prosperado Ezechîas en todo lo que hizo.

This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

Contudo, quando os representantes da Babilônia chegaram para ver o milagre da sua cura, Deus o deixou à sua própria sorte a fim de prová-lo e ver como era realmente o seu coração.

Empero en lo de los embajadores de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron á él para saber del prodigio que había acaecido en aquella tierra, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para hacer conocer todo lo que estaba en su corazón.

Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.

Os demais acontecimentos da história de Ezequias e de todas as suas obras de misericórdia que ele fez estão escritos no Livro de Isaías, o profeta, filho de Amoz, e no Livro da História dos Reis de Judá e de Israel.

Quando Ezequias morreu e foi sepultado com os seus antepassados no cemitério real dos descendentes de Davi, todo o Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém o honraram por ocasião da sua morte. E seu filho Manassés se tornou o novo rei.
