1Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Senaquerib, rey de los asirios, e invadió a Judá, y acampó contra las ciudades fortificadas, con la intención de conquistarlas.
2Viendo, pues, Ezequías que Senaquerib había venido, y que se había propuesto combatir a Jerusalén,
3tuvo consejo con sus príncipes y con sus hombres valientes, para cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.
4Entonces se juntó mucho pueblo, y cegaron todas las fuentes, y el arroyo que corría a través del territorio, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vinieren?
5Se animó así Ezequías, y edificó todos los muros caídos, e hizo levantar las torres, y otro muro por fuera; fortificó además a Milo en la ciudad de David, e hizo muchas espadas y escudos.
6Y puso capitanes de guerra sobre el pueblo, y los reunió así en la plaza de la puerta de la ciudad, y les habló a su corazón, diciendo:
7Esforzaos y sed valientes; no temáis, ni tengáis miedo del rey de Asiria, ni de toda su multitud que con él viene; porque más hay con nosotros que con él.
8Con él está el brazo de carne, mas con nosotros está Jehová nuestro Dios, para ayudarnos y pelear nuestras batallas. Y el pueblo tuvo confianza en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
9Después de esto Senaquerib, rey de los asirios (estando él sobre Laquis y con él todas sus fuerzas), envió sus siervos a Jerusalén, para decir a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todos los de Judá que estaban en Jerusalén:
10Así ha dicho Senaquerib, rey de los asirios: ¿En quién confiáis vosotros que permanecéis sitiados en Jerusalén?
11¿No os engaña Ezequías para entregaros a morir de hambre y de sed, diciendo: Jehová nuestro Dios nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria?
12¿No es el mismo Ezequías quien ha quitado sus lugares altos y sus altares, y dijo a Judá y a Jerusalén: Delante de este solo altar adoraréis, y sobre él quemaréis incienso?
13¿No sabéis lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de la tierra? ¿Pudieron los dioses de las naciones de aquellas tierras librar su tierra de mi mano?
14¿Qué dios hubo de entre todos los dioses de aquellas naciones que destruyeron mis padres, que pudiese salvar su pueblo de mi mano, para que pueda vuestro Dios libraros de mi mano?
15Ahora, pues, no os engañe Ezequías, ni os persuada tal cosa, ni le creáis; que si ningún dios de todas aquellas naciones y reinos pudo librar su pueblo de mis manos, y de las manos de mis padres, ¿cuánto menos vuestro Dios os podrá librar de mi mano?
16Y otras cosas más hablaron sus siervos contra Jehová Dios y contra su siervo Ezequías.
17Además de esto escribió cartas en que blasfemaba a Jehová, el Dios de Israel, y hablaba contra Él, diciendo: Como los dioses de las naciones de otras tierras no pudieron librar a su pueblo de mis manos, tampoco el Dios de Ezequías librará a su pueblo de mis manos.
18Y gritaron a gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalén que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y atemorizarlos, para tomar la ciudad.
19Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalén, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.
20Mas el rey Ezequías, y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron por esto, y clamaron al cielo.
21Y Jehová envió un ángel, el cual hirió a todo hombre esforzado y valiente, y a los jefes y capitanes en el campamento del rey de Asiria. Así se volvió con vergüenza de rostro a su tierra; y cuando entró en el templo de su dios, los que habían salido de sus propias entrañas lo mataron a espada.
22Así Jehová salvó a Ezequías y a los moradores de Jerusalén de las manos de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de las manos de todos; y los condujo por todas partes.
23Y muchos trajeron ofrenda a Jehová a Jerusalén, y ricos dones a Ezequías, rey de Judá; y fue muy grande delante de todas las naciones después de esto.
24En aquel tiempo Ezequías enfermó de muerte; y oró a Jehová, el cual le respondió y le dio una señal.
25Mas Ezequías no pagó conforme al bien que le había sido hecho; antes se enalteció su corazón, y la ira vino contra él, y contra Judá y Jerusalén.
26Pero Ezequías, después de haberse enaltecido su corazón, se humilló, él y los moradores de Jerusalén; y no vino sobre ellos la ira de Jehová en los días de Ezequías.
27Y Ezequías tenía muchas riquezas y honra; y se hizo depósitos para la plata, el oro, las piedras preciosas, los perfumes, los escudos y para toda clase de alhajas preciosas.
28Asimismo depósitos para las rentas del grano, del vino y del aceite; establos para toda clase de bestias y apriscos para los ganados.
29Se hizo también de ciudades y de rebaños de ovejas y de vacas en gran abundancia; porque Dios le había dado muchas posesiones.
30Este Ezequías tapó los manaderos de las aguas de Gihón la de arriba, y las encaminó abajo al occidente de la ciudad de David. Y fue prosperado Ezequías en todo lo que hizo.
31Pero en lo de los embajadores de los príncipes de Babilonia, que enviaron a él para saber del prodigio que había acaecido en aquella tierra, Dios lo dejó, para probarle, para saber todo lo que había en su corazón.
32Los demás hechos de Ezequías, y sus misericordias, he aquí, están escritos en la profecía del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
33Y durmió Ezequías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en los más insignes sepulcros de los hijos de David, honrándole en su muerte todo Judá y los de Jerusalén. Y Manasés su hijo reinó en su lugar.

1DESPUÉS de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Sennachêrib rey de los Asirios, entró en Judá, y asentó campo contra las ciudades fuertes, y determinó de entrar en ellas.
2Viendo pues Ezechîas la venida de Sennachêrib, y su aspecto de combatir á Jerusalem,
3Tuvo su consejo con sus príncipes y con sus valerosos, sobre cegar las fuentes de las aguas que estaban fuera de la ciudad; y ellos le apoyaron.
4Juntóse pues mucho pueblo, y cegaron todas las fuentes, y el arroyo que derrama por en medio del territorio, diciendo: ¿Por qué han de hallar los reyes de Asiria muchas aguas cuando vinieren?

18Y clamaron á gran voz en judaico al pueblo de Jerusalem que estaba en los muros, para espantarlos y ponerles temor, para tomar la ciudad.
19Y hablaron contra el Dios de Jerusalem, como contra los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, obra de manos de hombres.
20Mas el rey Ezechîas, y el profeta Isaías hijo de Amós, oraron por esto, y clamaron al cielo.
21Y Jehová envió un ángel, el cual hirió á todo valiente y esforzado, y á los jefes y capitanes en el campo del rey de Asiria. Volvióse por tanto con vergüenza de rostro á su tierra; y entrando en el templo de su dios, allí lo mataron á cuchillo los que habían salido de sus entrañas.

1After these things, and the establishment thereof, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself.
2And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
3He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him.
4So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?
5Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.
6And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying,
7Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there be more with us than with him:
8With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,
10Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?
11Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God shall deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
12Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?
13Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of mine hand?
14Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
15Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you on this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of mine hand?
16And his servants spake yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
17He wrote also letters to rail on the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of mine hand.
18Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
19And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.
20And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.
21And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.
22Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all other, and guided them on every side.
23And many brought gifts unto the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that he was magnified in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
24In those days Hezekiah was sick to the death, and prayed unto the LORD: and he spake unto him, and he gave him a sign.
25But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
26Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
27And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels;
28Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks.
29Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much.
30This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

1After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, entered into Judah, encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to win them for himself.
2When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was planning to fight against Jerusalem,
3he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city, and they helped him.
4Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?”
5He took courage, built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, with the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
6He set captains of war over the people, gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,
7“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
8An arm of flesh is with him, but the LORD our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
10Sennacherib king of Assyria says, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
11Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’?
12Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and you shall burn incense on it’?
13Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
14Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
15Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”
16His servants spoke yet more against the LORD God and against his servant Hezekiah.
17He also wrote letters insulting the LORD, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
18They called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.
19They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
20Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.
21The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body killed him there with the sword.
22Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
23Many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from then on.
24In those days Hezekiah was terminally ill, and he prayed to the LORD; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.
25But Hezekiah didn’t reciprocate appropriate to the benefit done for him, because his heart was lifted up. Therefore there was wrath on him, Judah, and Jerusalem.
26However, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the LORD’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
27Hezekiah had exceedingly great riches and honor. He provided himself with treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of valuable vessels;
28also storehouses for the increase of grain, new wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.
29Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him abundant possessions.
30This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of David’s city. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
31However, concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
32Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent to the tombs of the sons of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honored him at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
