1Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén.
2Hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Yahvé, y anduvo en los caminos de su padre David, sin apartarse ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
3A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún muchacho, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su padre David; y a los doce años comenzó a purificar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, de las imágenes de Asera, de las esculturas y de las imágenes fundidas.
4Derribaron en su presencia los altares de los baales, y él hizo destrozar los altares de incienso que estaban por encima de ellos. Hizo pedazos las imágenes de Asera, las esculturas y las imágenes fundidas, las redujo a polvo y lo esparció sobre las tumbas de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.
5Quemó también los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares, y así purificó a Judá y a Jerusalén.
6Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, Simeón, y hasta Neftalí, y en las ruinas alrededor de ellas.
7Después de derribar los altares y las imágenes de Asera, de triturar y reducir a polvo las esculturas, y de destrozar todos los altares de incienso por toda la tierra de Israel, regresó a Jerusalén.
8En el año dieciocho de su reinado, habiendo purificado la tierra y la casa de Dios, envió a Safán, hijo de Azalía, a Maasías, gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joa, hijo de Joacaz, el cronista, para que repararan la casa de Yahvé su Dios.
9Ellos vinieron al sumo sacerdote Hilcías y le entregaron el dinero que había sido depositado en la casa de Dios, el cual los levitas guardianes del umbral habían recolectado de Manasés, de Efraín y de todo el remanente de Israel, así como de todo Judá, de Benjamín y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.
10Lo pusieron en manos de los capataces encargados de la obra en la casa de Yahvé, y estos lo distribuían a los obreros que trabajaban en la casa de Yahvé, para reparar y restaurar el templo.
11Lo daban a los carpinteros y constructores para comprar piedra de sillería y madera para las armaduras, y para enmaderar los edificios que los reyes de Judá habían dejado arruinar.
12Estos hombres hacían la obra con fidelidad. Los capataces encargados de dirigirlos eran los levitas Jahat y Abdías, de los hijos de Merari; y Zacarías y Mesulam, de los hijos de Coat. También participaban los levitas, todos los que eran hábiles en los instrumentos musicales.
13Estaban a cargo de los cargadores y dirigían a todos los obreros en cada tipo de trabajo; y de los levitas, algunos eran escribas, oficiales y porteros.
14Al sacar el dinero que se había llevado a la casa de Yahvé, el sacerdote Hilcías halló el libro de la ley de Yahvé dada por medio de Moisés.
15Hilcías tomó la palabra y dijo al escriba Safán: «He hallado el libro de la ley en la casa de Yahvé». Y Hilcías entregó el libro a Safán.
16Safán llevó el libro al rey, y le rindió cuentas, diciendo: «Tus siervos están haciendo todo lo que les ha sido encomendado.
17Han fundido la plata hallada en la casa de Yahvé, y la han entregado en manos de los supervisores y en manos de los obreros».
18Además, el escriba Safán informó al rey, diciendo: «El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro». Y Safán lo leyó delante del rey.
19Cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestiduras.
20Luego el rey ordenó a Hilcías, a Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Micaía, al escriba Safán, y a Asaías, siervo del rey, diciendo:
21«Id, consultad a Yahvé por mí y por el remanente de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque es grande la ira de Yahvé que se ha derramado sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no guardaron la palabra de Yahvé, para hacer conforme a todo lo que está escrito en este libro».
22Entonces Hilcías y los que el rey había designado fueron a ver a la profetisa Hulda, esposa de Salum, hijo de Tocate, hijo de Hasra, guarda de las vestiduras (ella habitaba en Jerusalén, en el Segundo Barrio), y le hablaron en este sentido.
23Ella les respondió: “Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Decid al varón que os ha enviado a mí:
24‘Así dice Yahvé: He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes, a saber, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que han leído delante del rey de Judá.
25Por cuanto me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses, provocándome a ira con todas las obras de sus manos, por tanto, mi ira se derramará sobre este lugar, y no se apagará’.
26Pero al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado para consultar a Yahvé, le diréis así: ‘Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,
27y tu corazón se enterneció y te humillaste delante de Dios al oír sus palabras contra este lugar y contra sus habitantes, y te humillaste delante de mí, rasgaste tus vestiduras y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice Yahvé.
28He aquí que yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás llevado a tu sepulcro en paz. Tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes’”. Y ellos llevaron la respuesta al rey.
29Entonces el rey mandó convocar a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.
30El rey subió a la casa de Yahvé con todos los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, junto con los sacerdotes, los levitas y todo el pueblo, desde el mayor hasta el menor. Y leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Yahvé.
31El rey se puso en pie en su lugar e hizo un pacto delante de Yahvé, comprometiéndose a andar en pos de Yahvé, y a guardar sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus estatutos con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, poniendo por obra las palabras del pacto escritas en aquel libro.
32Y obligó a todos los que se hallaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín a que se comprometieran a cumplirlo. Y los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron conforme al pacto de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.
33Josías quitó todas las abominaciones de todos los territorios que pertenecían a los hijos de Israel, e hizo que todos los que se hallaban en Israel sirvieran a Yahvé su Dios. Y durante todos los días de Josías no se apartaron de seguir a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres.

1DE OCHO años era Josías cuando comenzó á reinar, y treinta y un años reinó en Jerusalem.
2Este hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, y anduvo en los caminos de David su padre, sin apartarse á la diestra ni á la siniestra.
3A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún muchacho, comenzó á buscar al Dios de David su padre; y á los doce años comenzó á limpiar á Judá y á Jerusalem de los altos, bosques, esculturas, é imágenes de fundición.
4Y derribaron delante de él los altares de los Baales, é hizo pedazos las imágenes del sol, que estaban puestas encima; despedazó también los bosques, y las esculturas y estatuas de fundición, y desmenuzólas, y esparció el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los que las habían sacrificado.
5Quemó además los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares, y limpió á Judá y á Jerusalem.
6Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, Ephraim, y Simeón, hasta en Nephtalí, con sus lugares asolados alrededor.
7Y como hubo derribado los altares y los bosques, y quebrado y desmenuzado las esculturas, y destruído todos los ídolos por toda la tierra de Israel, volvióse á Jerusalem.
8A los dieciocho años de su reinado, después de haber limpiado la tierra, y la casa, envió á Saphán hijo de Asalías, y á Maasías gobernador de la ciudad, y á Joah hijo de Joachâz, canciller, para que reparasen la casa de Jehová su Dios.
9Los cuales vinieron á Hilcías, gran sacerdote, y dieron el dinero que había sido metido en la casa de Jehová, que los Levitas que guardaban la puerta habían recogido de mano de Manasés y de Ephraim y de todas las reliquias de Israel, y de todo Judá y Benjamín, habiéndose después vuelto á Jerusalem.
10Y entregáronlo en mano de los que hacían la obra, que eran sobrestantes en la casa de Jehová; los cuales lo daban á los que hacían la obra y trabajaban en la casa de Jehová, para reparar y restaurar el templo.
11Daban asimismo á los oficiales y albañiles para que comprasen piedra de cantería, y madera para las trabazones, y para entabladura de las casas, las cuales habían destruído los reyes de Judá.
12Y estos hombres procedían con fidelidad en la obra: y eran sus gobernadores Jahath y Abdías, Levitas de los hijos de Merari; y Zachârías y Mesullam de los hijos de Coath, para que activasen la obra; y de los Levitas, todos los entendidos en instrumentos de música.
13También velaban sobre los ganapanes, y eran sobrestantes de los que se ocupaban en cualquier clase de obra; y de los Levitas había escribas, gobernadores, y porteros.
14Y al sacar el dinero que había sido metido en la casa de Jehová, Hilcías el sacerdote halló el libro de la ley de Jehová dada por mano de Moisés.
15Y dando cuenta Hilcías, dijo á Saphán escriba: Yo he hallado el libro de la ley en la casa de Jehová. Y dió Hilcías el libro á Saphán.
16Y Saphán lo llevó al rey, y contóle el negocio, diciendo: Tus siervos han cumplido todo lo que les fué dado á cargo.
17Han reunido el dinero que se halló en la casa de Jehová, y lo han entregado en mano de los comisionados, y en mano de los que hacen la obra.
18A más de esto, declaró Saphán escriba al rey, diciendo: El sacerdote Hilcías me dió un libro. Y leyó Saphán en él delante del rey.
19Y luego que el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos;
20Y mandó á Hilcías y á Ahicam hijo de Saphán, y á Abdón hijo de Michâ, y á Saphán escriba, y á Asaía siervo del rey, diciendo:
21Andad, y consultad á Jehová de mí, y de las reliquias de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque grande es el furor de Jehová que ha caído sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no guardaron la palabra de Jehová, para hacer conforme á todo lo que está escrito en este libro.
22Entonces Hilcías y los del rey fueron á Hulda profetisa, mujer de Sallum, hijo de Tikvath, hijo de Hasra, guarda de las vestimentas, la cual moraba en Jerusalem en la casa de la doctrina; y dijéronle las palabras dichas.
23Y ella respondió: Jehová el Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Decid al varón que os ha enviado á mí, que así ha dicho Jehová:
24He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que leyeron delante del rey de Judá:
25Por cuanto me han dejado, y han sacrificado á dioses ajenos, provocándome á ira en todas las obras de sus manos; por tanto mi furor destilará sobre este lugar, y no se apagará.
26Mas al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado á consultar á Jehová, así le diréis: Jehová el Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Por cuanto oiste las palabras del libro,
27Y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de Dios al oir sus palabras sobre este lugar, y sobre sus moradores, y te humillaste delante de mí, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice Jehová.
28He aquí que yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás recogido en tus sepulcros en paz, y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él. Y ellos refirieron al rey la respuesta.
29Entonces el rey envió y juntó todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalem.
30Y subió el rey á la casa de Jehová, y con él todos los varones de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalem, y los sacerdotes, y los Levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el más pequeño; y leyó á oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.
31Y estando el rey en pie en su sitio, hizo alianza delante de Jehová de caminar en pos de Jehová, y de guardar sus mandamientos, sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, poniendo por obra las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro.
32E hizo que se obligaran á ello todos los que estaban en Jerusalem y en Benjamín: y los moradores de Jerusalem hicieron conforme al pacto de Dios, del Dios de sus padres.
33Y quitó Josías todas las abominaciones de todas las tierras de los hijos de Israel, é hizo á todos los que se hallaron en Israel que sirviesen á Jehová su Dios. No se apartaron de en pos de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, todo el tiempo que él vivió.

1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem one and thirty years.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
4And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.
5And he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
6And so did he in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their mattocks round about.
7And when he had broken down the altars and the groves, and had beaten the graven images into powder, and cut down all the idols throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
8Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land, and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.
9And when they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin; and they returned to Jerusalem.
10And they put it in the hand of the workmen that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and amend the house:
11Even to the artificers and builders gave they it, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12And the men did the work faithfully: and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and other of the Levites, all that could skill of instruments of musick.
13Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.
14And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
15And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
16And Shaphan carried the book to the king, and brought the king word back again, saying, All that was committed to thy servants, they do it.
17And they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and to the hand of the workmen.
18Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
19And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.
20And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
21Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book.
22And Hilkiah, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college:) and they spake to her to that effect.
23And she answered them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell ye the man that sent you to me,
24Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah:
25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26And as for the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel concerning the words which thou hast heard;
27Because thine heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, when thou heardest his words against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, and humbledst thyself before me, and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me; I have even heard thee also, saith the LORD.
28Behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.
29Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
31And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.
32And he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.
3For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, the Asherah poles, the engraved images, and the molten images.
4They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and he cut down the incense altars that were on high above them. He broke the Asherah poles, the engraved images, and the molten images in pieces, made dust of them, and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
5He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
6He did this in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.
7He broke down the altars, beat the Asherah poles and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, then returned to Jerusalem.

9They came to Hilkiah the high priest and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered from the hands of Manasseh, Ephraim, of all the remnant of Israel, of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10They delivered it into the hands of the workmen who had the oversight of the LORD’s house; and the workmen who labored in the LORD’s house gave it to mend and repair the house.
11They gave it to the carpenters and to the builders to buy cut stone and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12The men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to give direction; and others of the Levites, who were all skillful with musical instruments.
13Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and directed all who did the work in every kind of service. Of the Levites, there were scribes, officials, and gatekeepers.
14When they brought out the money that was brought into the LORD’s house, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the LORD’s law given by Moses.
15Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD’s house.” So Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.
16Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.
17They have emptied out the money that was found in the LORD’s house, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers and into the hand of the workmen.”
18Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read from it to the king.
19When the king had heard the words of the law, he tore his clothes.
20The king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,
21“Go inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the LORD’s wrath that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the LORD’s word, to do according to all that is written in this book.”
22So Hilkiah and those whom the king had commanded went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter), and they spoke to her to that effect.
23She said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel says: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
24“The LORD says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.
25Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath is poured out on this place, and it will not be quenched.’”’
26But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, you shall tell him this, ‘The LORD, the God of Israel says: “About the words which you have heard,
27because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,” says the LORD.
28“Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes won’t see all the evil that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back this message to the king.
29Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30The king went up to the LORD’s house with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests, the Levites, and all the people, both great and small—and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the LORD’s house.
31The king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
