1Alors Salomon dit : L’Éternel a dit qu’il habiterait dans l’obscurité profonde.
2Mais moi j’ai bâti une maison d’habitation pour toi, un lieu fixe pour que tu y demeures à toujours.
3Et le roi tourna sa face, et bénit toute la congrégation d’Israël ; et toute la congrégation d’Israël était debout.
4Et il dit : Béni soit l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël, qui parla de sa bouche à David, mon père, et de sa main a accompli [sa parole], disant :
5Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir mon peuple du pays d’Égypte, je n’ai choisi aucune ville d’entre toutes les tribus d’Israël pour [y] bâtir une maison afin que mon nom y soit, et je n’ai pas choisi d’homme pour être prince sur mon peuple Israël ;
6mais j’ai choisi Jérusalem, afin que mon nom y soit ; et j’ai choisi David pour être [roi] sur mon peuple Israël.
7Et David, mon père, avait à cœur de bâtir une maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël.
8Et l’Éternel dit à David, mon père : Puisque tu as eu à cœur de bâtir une maison pour mon nom, tu as bien fait de l’avoir eu à cœur ;
9toutefois, tu ne bâtiras pas la maison ; mais ton fils qui sortira de tes reins, lui, bâtira une maison pour mon nom.
10Et l’Éternel a accompli sa parole, qu’il a prononcée ; et je me suis levé à la place de David, mon père, et je suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme l’Éternel l’a dit ; et j’ai bâti la maison pour le nom de l’Éternel, le Dieu d’Israël,
11et j’y ai mis l’arche, où est l’alliance de l’Éternel, qu’il a faite avec les fils d’Israël.
12Et il se tint devant l’autel de l’Éternel, en face de toute la congrégation d’Israël, et étendit ses mains ;
13car Salomon avait fait une estrade d’airain, longue de cinq coudées, large de cinq coudées, et haute de trois coudées, et l’avait mise au milieu de la cour ; et il s’y tint, et fléchit les genoux en face de toute la congrégation d’Israël, et étendit ses mains vers les cieux,
14et dit : Éternel, Dieu d’Israël ! il n’y a point de Dieu comme toi, dans les cieux et sur la terre, qui gardes l’alliance et la bonté envers tes serviteurs qui marchent devant toi de tout leur cœur,
15toi qui as gardé envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit : tu as parlé de ta bouche, et de ta main tu as accompli [ta parole], comme [il paraît] aujourd’hui.
16Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, garde envers ton serviteur David, mon père, ce que tu lui as dit, disant : Tu ne manqueras pas, devant ma face, d’un homme assis sur le trône d’Israël ; si seulement tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, pour marcher dans ma loi, comme tu as marché devant moi.
17Et maintenant, Éternel, Dieu d’Israël, que ta parole, que tu as dite à ton serviteur David, soit ferme.
18Mais Dieu habitera-t-il vraiment avec l’homme sur la terre ? Voici, les cieux, et les cieux des cieux, ne peuvent te contenir ; combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie !
19Cependant, Éternel, mon Dieu, aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur et à sa supplication, pour écouter le cri et la prière que ton serviteur t’adresse,
20pour que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, sur le lieu où tu as dit que tu mettrais ton nom, pour écouter la prière que ton serviteur t’adressera [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci.
21Et écoute les supplications de ton serviteur et de ton peuple Israël, qu’ils t’adresseront [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci : toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation ; écoute et pardonne !
22Si un homme pèche contre son prochain, et qu’on lui impose le serment, pour le faire jurer, et que le serment vienne devant ton autel dans cette maison :
23alors, toi, écoute des cieux, et agis, et juge tes serviteurs, en rendant au méchant [selon ce qu’il a fait], en faisant retomber sa voie sur sa tête, et en justifiant le juste, en lui donnant selon sa justice.
24Et si ton peuple Israël est battu devant l’ennemi, parce qu’ils ont péché contre toi, et qu’ils retournent [vers toi], et confessent ton nom, et te prient, et présentent leur supplication devant toi dans cette maison :
25alors, toi, écoute des cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël ; et fais-les retourner dans la terre que tu leur as donnée, à eux et à leurs pères.
26Quand les cieux seront fermés et qu’il n’y aura pas de pluie, parce qu’ils auront péché contre toi, s’ils prient [en se tournant] vers ce lieu-ci, et qu’ils confessent ton nom et reviennent de leur péché, parce que tu les auras affligés :
27alors, toi, écoute dans les cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple Israël, quand tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin dans lequel ils doivent marcher ; et donne la pluie sur ton pays que tu as donné en héritage à ton peuple.
28S’il y a famine dans le pays, s’il y a peste, s’il y a brûlure, ou rouille, sauterelles ou locustes, si ses ennemis l’assiègent dans le pays de ses portes, quelque plaie ou quelque maladie qu’il y ait,
29quelle que soit la prière, quelle que soit la supplication que fera un homme quelconque, ou tout ton peuple Israël, quand ils reconnaîtront chacun sa plaie et sa souffrance et qu’ils étendront leurs mains vers cette maison :
30alors, toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, et pardonne, et donne à chacun selon toutes ses voies, suivant que tu connais son cœur (car tu connais, toi seul, le cœur des fils des hommes),
31afin qu’ils te craignent pour marcher dans tes voies, tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la face de la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères.
32Et quant à l’étranger aussi, qui ne sera pas de ton peuple Israël, mais qui viendra d’un pays lointain à cause de ton grand nom, et de ta main forte, et de ton bras étendu, s’il vient et présente sa prière [en se tournant] vers cette maison :
33alors, toi, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, et agis selon tout ce que l’étranger réclamera de toi ; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton nom, et te craignent, comme ton peuple Israël, et qu’ils sachent que cette maison que j’ai bâtie est appelée de ton nom.
34Lorsque ton peuple sortira pour la guerre contre ses ennemis, par le chemin par lequel tu l’auras envoyé, et qu’ils te prieront en se tournant vers cette ville que tu as choisie et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom :
35alors, écoute des cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et fais-leur droit.
36S’ils ont péché contre toi (car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche), et que tu te sois irrité contre eux, et que tu les aies livrés à l’ennemi, et qu’ils les aient emmenés captifs en un pays éloigné ou rapproché,
37et que, dans le pays où ils auront été emmenés captifs, ils rentrent en eux-mêmes, et reviennent [à toi] et te supplient, dans le pays de leur captivité, disant : Nous avons péché, nous avons commis l’iniquité, et nous avons agi méchamment,
38– et s’ils reviennent à toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leur captivité, où on les aura emmenés captifs, et [te] prient en se tournant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, et vers la ville que tu as choisie, et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie pour ton nom :
39alors, écoute des cieux, du lieu de ton habitation, leur prière et leurs supplications, et fais-leur droit, et pardonne à ton peuple ce en quoi ils ont péché contre toi.
40Maintenant, mon Dieu, que tes yeux, je te prie, soient ouverts, et que tes oreilles soient attentives à la prière [qu’on te fera] de ce lieu-ci.
41Et maintenant, ÉternelDieu ! lève-toi pour [entrer dans] ton repos, toi et l’arche de ta force ! Que tes sacrificateurs, ÉternelDieu, soient revêtus de salut, et que tes saints se réjouissent en [ta] bonté !
42ÉternelDieu, ne repousse pas la face de ton oint ; souviens-toi de [tes] grâces, envers David, ton serviteur.

1ENTONCES dijo Salomón: Jehová ha dicho que él habitaría en la oscuridad.
2Yo pues he edificado una casa de morada para ti, y una habitación en que mores para siempre.
3Y volviendo el rey su rostro, bendijo á toda la congregación de Israel: y toda la congregación de Israel estaba en pie.
4Y él dijo: Bendito sea Jehová Dios de Israel, el cual con su mano ha cumplido lo que habló por su boca á David mi padre, diciendo:
5Desde el día que saqué mi pueblo de la tierra de Egipto, ninguna ciudad he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar casa donde estuviese mi nombre, ni he escogido varón que fuese príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel.
6Mas á Jerusalem he elegido para que en ella esté mi nombre, y á David he elegido para que fuese sobre mi pueblo Israel.
7Y David mi padre tuvo en el corazón edificar casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel.
8Mas Jehová dijo á David mi padre: Respecto á haber tenido en tu corazón edificar casa á mi nombre, bien has hecho en haber tenido esto en tu corazón.
9Empero tú no edificarás la casa, sino tu hijo que saldrá de tus lomos, él edificará casa á mi nombre.
10Y Jehová ha cumplido su palabra que había dicho; pues levantéme yo en lugar de David mi padre, y heme sentado en el trono de Israel, como Jehová había dicho, y he edificado casa al nombre de Jehová Dios de Israel.
11Y en ella he puesto el arca, en la cual está el pacto de Jehová que concertó con los hijos de Israel.
12Púsose luego Salomón delante del altar de Jehová, en presencia de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendió sus manos.
13Porque Salomón había hecho un púlpito de metal, de cinco codos de largo, y de cinco codos de ancho, y de altura de tres codos, y lo había puesto en medio del atrio: y púsose sobre él, é hincóse de rodillas delante de toda la congregación de Israel, y extendiendo sus manos al cielo, dijo:
14Jehová Dios de Israel, no hay Dios semejante á ti en el cielo ni en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y la misericordia á tus siervos que caminan delante de ti de todo su corazón;
15Que has guardado á tu siervo David mi padre lo que le dijiste: tú lo dijiste de tu boca, mas con tu mano lo has cumplido, como parece este día.
16Ahora pues, Jehová Dios de Israel, guarda á tu siervo David mi padre lo que le has prometido, diciendo: No faltará de ti varón delante de mí, que se siente en el trono de Israel, á condición que tus hijos guarden su camino, andando en mi ley, como tú delante de mí has andado.
17Ahora pues, oh Jehová Dios de Israel, verifíquese tu palabra que dijiste á tu siervo David.
18Mas ¿es verdad que Dios ha de habitar con el hombre en la tierra? He aquí, los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerte: ¿cuánto menos esta casa que he edificado?
19Mas tú mirarás á la oración de tu siervo, y á su ruego, oh Jehová Dios mío, para oir el clamor y la oración con que tu siervo ora delante de ti.
20Que tus ojos estén abiertos sobre esta casa de día y de noche, sobre el lugar del cual dijiste, Mi nombre estará allí; que oigas la oración con que tu siervo ora en este lugar.
21Asimismo que oigas el ruego de tu siervo, y de tu pueblo Israel, cuando en este lugar hicieren oración, que tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada: que oigas y perdones.
22Si alguno pecare contra su prójimo, y él le pidiere juramento haciéndole jurar, y el juramento viniere delante de tu altar en esta casa,
23Tú oirás desde los cielos, y obrarás, y juzgarás á tus siervos, dando la paga al impío, tornándole su proceder sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo en darle conforme á su justicia.
24Si tu pueblo Israel cayere delante de los enemigos, por haber prevaricado contra ti, y se convirtieren, y confesaren tu nombre, y rogaren delante de ti en esta casa,
25Tú oirás desde los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y los volverás á la tierra que diste á ellos y á sus padres.
26Si los cielos se cerraren, que no haya lluvias por haber pecado contra ti, si oraren á ti en este lugar, y confesaren tu nombre, y se convirtieren de sus pecados, cuando los afligieres,
27Tú los oirás en los cielos, y perdonarás el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel, y les enseñarás el buen camino para que anden en él, y darás lluvia sobre tu tierra, la cual diste por heredad á tu pueblo.
28Y si hubiere hambre en la tierra, ó si hubiere pestilencia, si hubiere tizoncillo ó añublo, langosta ó pulgón; ó si los cercaren sus enemigos en la tierra de su domicilio; cualquiera plaga ó enfermedad que sea;
29Toda oración y todo ruego que hiciere cualquier hombre, ó todo tu pueblo Israel, cualquiera que conociere su llaga y su dolor en su corazón, si extendiere sus manos á esta casa,
30Tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu habitación, y perdonarás, y darás á cada uno conforme á sus caminos, habiendo conocido su corazón; (porque solo tú conoces el corazón de los hijos de los hombres;)
31Para que te teman y anden en tus caminos, todos los días que vivieren sobre la haz de la tierra que tú diste á nuestros padres.
32Y también al extranjero que no fuere de tu pueblo Israel, que hubiere venido de lejanas tierras á causa de tu grande nombre, y de tu mano fuerte, y de tu brazo extendido, si vinieren, y oraren en esta casa,
33Tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, y harás conforme á todas las cosas por las cuales hubiere clamado á ti el extranjero; para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre, y te teman como tu pueblo Israel, y sepan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que he edificado yo.
34Si tu pueblo saliere á la guerra contra sus enemigos por el camino que tú los enviares, y oraren á ti hacia esta ciudad que tú elegiste, hacia la casa que he edificado á tu nombre,
35Tú oirás desde los cielos su oración y su ruego, y ampararás su derecho.
36Si pecaren contra ti, (pues no hay hombre que no peque,) y te airares contra ellos, y los entregares delante de sus enemigos, para que los que los tomaren los lleven cautivos á tierra de enemigos, lejos ó cerca,
37Y ellos volvieren en sí en la tierra donde fueren llevados cautivos; si se convirtieren, y oraren á ti en la tierra de su cautividad, y dijeren: Pecamos, hemos hecho inicuamente, impíamente hemos obrado;
38Si se convirtieren á ti de todo su corazón y de toda su alma en la tierra de su cautividad, donde los hubieren llevado cautivos, y oraren hacia su tierra que tú diste á sus padres, hacia la ciudad que tu elegiste, y hacia la casa que he edificado á tu nombre;
39Tú oirás desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su ruego, y ampararás su causa, y perdonarás á tu pueblo que pecó contra ti.
40Ahora pues, oh Dios mío, ruégote estén abiertos tus ojos, y atentos tus oídos á la oración en este lugar.
41Oh Jehová Dios, levántate ahora para habitar en tu reposo, tú y el arca de tu fortaleza; sean, oh Jehová Dios, vestidos de salud tus sacerdotes, y gocen de bien tus santos.
42Jehová Dios, no hagas volver el rostro de tu ungido: acuérdate de las misericordias de David tu siervo.

1Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
2But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.
3And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.
4And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,
5Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:
6But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.
7Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
8But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:
9Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
10The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.
11And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.
12And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:
13For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,
14And said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:
15Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.
16Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.
17Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.
18But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
19Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:
20That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.
21Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.
22If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;
23Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.
24And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;
25Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.
26When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;
27Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.
28If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:
29Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:
30Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)
31That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.
32Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
33Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
34If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;
35Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;
37Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;
38If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:
39Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.
40Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
41Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
42O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.
World English Bible
1Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
2But I have built you a house and home, a place for you to dwell in forever.”
3The king turned his face, and blessed all the assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel stood.
4He said, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has with his hands fulfilled it, saying,
5‘Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there, and I chose no man to be prince over my people Israel;
6but now I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’
7Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
8But the LORD said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;
9nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who will come out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’
10“The LORD has performed his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
11There I have set the ark, in which is the LORD’s covenant, which he made with the children of Israel.”
12He stood before the LORD’s altar in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands
13(for Solomon had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and had set it in the middle of the court; and he stood on it, and knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven).
14Then he said, “LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth—you who keep covenant and loving kindness with your servants who walk before you with all their heart;
15who have kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is today.
16“Now therefore, LORD, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’
17Now therefore, LORD, the God of Israel, let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David.
18“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!
19Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant and to his supplication, LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you;
20that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place where you have said that you would put your name, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.
21Listen to the petitions of your servant and of your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Yes, hear from your dwelling place, even from heaven; and when you hear, forgive.
22“If a man sins against his neighbor, and an oath is laid on him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swears before your altar in this house,
23then hear from heaven, act, and judge your servants, bringing retribution to the wicked, to bring his way on his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
24“If your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, and they turn again and confess your name, and pray and make supplication before you in this house,
25then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to them and to their fathers.
26“When the sky is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray toward this place and confess your name, and turn from their sin when you afflict them,
27then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk, and send rain on your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance.
28“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatever plague or whatever sickness there is—
29whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who will each know his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread out his hands toward this house,
30then hear from heaven your dwelling place and forgive, and give to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know (for you, even you only, know the hearts of the children of men),
31that they may fear you, to walk in your ways as long as they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.
32“Moreover, concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, when he comes from a far country for your great name’s sake and your mighty hand and your outstretched arm, when they come and pray toward this house,
33then hear from heaven, even from your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.
34“If your people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatever way you send them, and they pray to you toward this city which you have chosen, and the house which I have built for your name;
35then hear from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
36“If they sin against you (for there is no man who doesn’t sin), and you are angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to a land far off or near;
37yet if they come to their senses in the land where they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication to you in the land of their captivity, saying, ‘We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly;’
38if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they have been taken captive, and pray toward their land which you gave to their fathers, and the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name;
39then hear from heaven, even from your dwelling place, their prayer and their petitions, and maintain their cause, and forgive your people who have sinned against you.
40“Now, my God, let, I beg you, your eyes be open, and let your ears be attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
41“Now therefore arise, LORD God, into your resting place, you, and the ark of your strength. Let your priests, LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let your saints rejoice in goodness.
42“LORD God, don’t turn away the face of your anointed. Remember your loving kindnesses to David your servant.”
