1Ahora yo, Pablo, les pido por el comportamiento apacible y gentil de Cristo, que soy pobre de espíritu cuando estoy con ustedes, pero que les digo lo que tengo en mente a ustedes sin temor cuando estoy lejos de ustedes.
2Sí, les ruego que, cuando esté con ustedes, no tenga que utilizar la autoridad que pueda necesitar contra aquellos a quienes piensan de nosotros que andamos según la carne.
3Porque aunque vivamos en la carne, no luchamos según la carne:
4Porque las armas con las cuales estamos peleando no son las de la carne, sino que son poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;
5Poner fin a los razonamientos y a toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y hacer que todo pensamiento caiga bajo la autoridad de Cristo;
6Estar listo para castigar cualquier cosa que esté en contra de su autoridad, después de haber dejado en claro que estás completamente bajo su control.
7Ustedes solo se fijan en las apariencias? Si algún hombre parece ser de Cristo, tenga en cuenta que somos tanto nosotros de Cristo como lo es él.
8Porque si bien me enorgullezco un poco más de nuestra autoridad (que el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para la destrucción), no me avergonzaré;
9Para que no parezca que los quiero asustar con mis cartas.
10Porque sus cartas, dicen, son duras y fuertes; pero en persona es débil no impresiona a nadie en su manera de hablar.
11Dejen que aquellos que dicen esto tengan en cuenta que, lo que somos en palabra por letra cuando estamos ausentes, también lo haremos en acto cuando estemos presentes.
12Porque no haremos una comparación de nosotros mismos con algunos de los que dicen cosas buenas de sí mismos; pero estos, midiéndose por sí mismos y haciendo comparaciones consigo mismos, no son sabios.
13No nos gloriaremos en demasiada medida, sino según la medida de la regla que Dios nos ha dado, Dios es quien señala los límites de nuestro campo de trabajo, una medida que los alcanzará incluso a ustedes.
14Porque no tenemos necesidad de hacernos parecer más de lo que somos, como si fuera el caso si no hubiéramos estado antes con ustedes, porque nosotros fuimos los primeros que vinimos traerles a ustedes las buenas nuevas de Cristo:
15No tomamos crédito para nosotros mismos por lo que no es nuestro trabajo, es decir, para el trabajo de otros; pero con la esperanza de que, con el crecimiento de su fe, podamos obtener el mérito de un aumento que es el efecto de nuestro trabajo,
16Para que podamos continuar y llevar las buenas nuevas a países aún más lejanos de donde ustedes están, y no atribuirnos el trabajo de otro hombre, para no jactarnos de las obras que otros han hecho.
17Pero el que tiene un deseo de gloria, que su gloria sea en el Señor.
18Porque la aprobación del Señor para un hombre no depende de su opinión de sí mismo, Sino de la opinión que el Señor tiene de él.

1EMPERO yo Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y modestia de Cristo, yo que presente ciertamente soy bajo entre vosotros, mas ausente soy confiado entre vosotros:
2Ruego pues, que cuando estuviere presente, no tenga que ser atrevido con la confianza con que estoy en ánimo de ser resuelto para con algunos, que nos tienen como si anduviésemos según la carne.
3Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne,
4(Porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;)
5Destruyendo consejos, y toda altura que se levanta contra la ciencia de Dios, y cautivando todo intento á la obediencia de Cristo;
6Y estando prestos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia fuere cumplida.
7Miráis las cosas según la apariencia. Si alguno está confiado en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también piense por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo.
8Porque aunque me gloríe aún un poco de nuestra potestad (la cual el Señor nos dió para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción), no me avergonzaré;
9Porque no parezca como que os quiero espantar por cartas.
10Porque á la verdad, dicen, las cartas son graves y fuertes; mas la presencia corporal flaca, y la palabra menospreciable.
11Esto piense el tal, que cuales somos en la palabra por cartas estando ausentes, tales seremos también en hechos, estando presentes.
12Porque no osamos entremeternos ó compararnos con algunos que se alaban á sí mismos: mas ellos, midiéndose á sí mismos por sí mismos, y comparándose consigo mismos no son juiciosos.
13Nosotros empero, no nos gloriaremos fuera de nuestra medida, sino conforme á la medida de la regla, de la medida que Dios nos repartió, para llegar aun hasta vosotros.
14Porque no nos extendemos sobre nuestra medida, como si no llegásemos hasta vosotros: porque también hasta vosotros hemos llegado en el evangelio de Cristo:
15No gloriándonos fuera de nuestra medida en trabajos ajenos; mas teniendo esperanza del crecimiento de vuestra fe, que seremos muy engrandecidos entre vosotros, conforme á nuestra regla.
16Y que anunciaremos el evangelio en los lugares más allá de vosotros, sin entrar en la medida de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba aparejado.
17Mas el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.
18Porque no el que se alaba á sí mismo, el tal es aprobado; mas aquel á quien Dios alaba.

1Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
7Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
8For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
9That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
11Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
12For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
13But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
14For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
15Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
16To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
17But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
World English Bible
1Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.
2Yes, I beg you that I may not, when present, show courage with the confidence with which I intend to be bold against some, who consider us to be walking according to the flesh.
3For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh;
4for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds,
5throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
6and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is made full.
7Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that even as he is Christ’s, so we also are Christ’s.
8For even if I boast somewhat abundantly concerning our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for casting you down, I will not be ashamed,
9that I may not seem as if I desire to terrify you by my letters.
10For, “His letters”, they say, “are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”
11Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present.
12For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.
13But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you.
14For we don’t stretch ourselves too much, as though we didn’t reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ,
15not boasting beyond proper limits in other men’s labors, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence,
16so as to preach the Good News even to the parts beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.
17But “he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
18For it isn’t he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
