Eu, Paulo, apelo para vocês, com mansidão e bondade, em nome de Cristo. Alguns de vocês estão dizendo que sou corajoso quando estou longe, mas quando estou como vocês sou humilde.
EMPERO yo Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y modestia de Cristo, yo que presente ciertamente soy bajo entre vosotros, mas ausente soy confiado entre vosotros:
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.
Espero não precisar mostrar-lhes, quando estiver com vocês, quão audaz e severo posso ser. Não quero levar a efeito meus planos atuais contra alguns de vocês que, segundo parece, pensam que minhas ações e palavras são simplesmente as de um homem comum.
Ruego pues, que cuando estuviere presente, no tenga que ser atrevido con la confianza con que estoy en ánimo de ser resuelto para con algunos, que nos tienen como si anduviésemos según la carne.
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
Yes, I beg you that I may not, when present, show courage with the confidence with which I intend to be bold against some, who consider us to be walking according to the flesh.
É verdade que somos humanos, mas não empregamos planos e métodos humanos para ganhar batalhas.
Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne,
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh;
As armas que usamos não são humanas; ao contrário, são poderosas armas de Deus para derrubar fortalezas.

Estas armas podem derrubar todo argumento e pretensão contra o conhecimento de Deus. Com estas armas podemos dominar todo pensamento humano para torná-lo obediente a Cristo.
Destruyendo consejos, y toda altura que se levanta contra la ciencia de Dios, y cautivando todo intento á la obediencia de Cristo;
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
E usaremos tais armas contra todo ato de desobediência, quando estivermos completamente obedientes a Deus.
Y estando prestos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia fuere cumplida.
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is made full.
A dificuldade de vocês é que olham para a aparência. Se alguém tem certeza que pertence a Cristo, deveria considerar novamente consigo mesmo que, assim como ele, nós também pertencemos a Cristo.
Miráis las cosas según la apariencia. Si alguno está confiado en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también piense por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo.
Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that even as he is Christ’s, so we also are Christ’s.
Eu posso dar a ideia de que estou alardeando mais do que devia a minha autoridade sobre vocês — autoridade que o Senhor me deu para ajudá-los e não para prejudicá-los — porém eu demonstrarei cada afirmação que fiz.
Porque aunque me gloríe aún un poco de nuestra potestad (la cual el Señor nos dió para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción), no me avergonzaré;
For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

Digo isto a fim de que vocês não pensem que eu estou querendo amedrontá-los quando os repreendo em minhas cartas.
Porque no parezca como que os quiero espantar por cartas.
That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

“Não se incomodem com as cartas dele”, dizem alguns. “Ele parece importante, mas é só aparência. Quando ele vier aqui, vocês verão que ele é tímido e a sua palavra é desprezível!”
Porque á la verdad, dicen, las cartas son graves y fuertes; mas la presencia corporal flaca, y la palabra menospreciable.
For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
For, “His letters”, they say, “are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”
Que estas pessoas saibam que aquilo que somos em carta, quando estamos ausentes, seremos em atos, quando estivermos presentes!
Esto piense el tal, que cuales somos en la palabra por cartas estando ausentes, tales seremos también en hechos, estando presentes.
Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

Não se preocupem, eu não me atreveria a dizer que sou tão admirável como esses outros homens que vivem dizendo-lhes como eles são bons! A dificuldade deles é que só se comparam uns aos outros, medindo-se pelos seus próprios conceitos mesquinhos.
Porque no osamos entremeternos ó compararnos con algunos que se alaban á sí mismos: mas ellos, midiéndose á sí mismos por sí mismos, y comparándose consigo mismos no son juiciosos.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.
Mas nós não nos gloriaremos além do limite apropriado. Nosso objetivo é estar à altura do plano de Deus para nós, e este plano inclui o nosso trabalho com vocês.
Nosotros empero, no nos gloriaremos fuera de nuestra medida, sino conforme á la medida de la regla, de la medida que Dios nos repartió, para llegar aun hasta vosotros.
But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you.
Não estamos indo longe demais quando reivindicamos autoridade sobre vocês, pois fomos os primeiros a chegar aí com o evangelho de Cristo.
Porque no nos extendemos sobre nuestra medida, como si no llegásemos hasta vosotros: porque también hasta vosotros hemos llegado en el evangelio de Cristo:
For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

Não é que estejamos procurando exigir para nós o mérito pela obra que outro tenha realizado entre vocês. Em vez disso, esperamos que cresça a fé que vocês têm e que, ainda dentro dos limites estabelecidos para nós, a nossa obra entre vocês seja grandemente aumentada.
No gloriándonos fuera de nuestra medida en trabajos ajenos; mas teniendo esperanza del crecimiento de vuestra fe, que seremos muy engrandecidos entre vosotros, conforme á nuestra regla.
Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
not boasting beyond proper limits in other men’s labors, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence,
Então poderemos pregar o evangelho às outras cidades que estão muito além de vocês, onde nenhum outro está trabalhando; então não serei acusado de estar me vangloriando em campo alheio.
Y que anunciaremos el evangelio en los lugares más allá de vosotros, sin entrar en la medida de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba aparejado.
To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
so as to preach the Good News even to the parts beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.
Como dizem as Escrituras: “Se alguém vai gloriar-se, que se glorie no Senhor”.
Mas el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.
But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
But “he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
Quando alguém se gloria de si mesmo, isso não tem valor. Mas quando é o Senhor quem o elogia, é bem diferente!
Porque no el que se alaba á sí mismo, el tal es aprobado; mas aquel á quien Dios alaba.
For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
For it isn’t he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
