Mas yo, Pablo, aquel mismo Pablo que, como dicen mis enemigos, parezco tan pequeño o humilde estando entre vosotros, pero que ausente soy para con vosotros osado, o imperioso, os suplico encarecidamente por la mansedumbre y modestia de Cristo ,
EMPERO yo Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y modestia de Cristo, yo que presente ciertamente soy bajo entre vosotros, mas ausente soy confiado entre vosotros:
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.
os suplico, digo, que hagáis de manera que no me vea obligado, cuando esté entre vosotros, a obrar con esa osadía que se me atribuye, con respecto a ciertos sujetos que se imaginan que procedemos según la carne, o por miras humanas.
Ruego pues, que cuando estuviere presente, no tenga que ser atrevido con la confianza con que estoy en ánimo de ser resuelto para con algunos, que nos tienen como si anduviésemos según la carne.
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
Yes, I beg you that I may not, when present, show courage with the confidence with which I intend to be bold against some, who consider us to be walking according to the flesh.
Porque aunque vivimos en carne miserable, no militamos según la carne.
Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne,
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh;
Pues las armas con que combatimos no son carnales, sino que son poderosísimas en Dios para derrocar fortalezas, destruyendo nosotros con ellas los proyectos o raciocinios humanos,
(Porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;)
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds,
y toda altanería de espíritu que se engríe contra la ciencia o el conocimiento de Dios, y cautivando todo entendimiento a la obediencia de Cristo ,
Destruyendo consejos, y toda altura que se levanta contra la ciencia de Dios, y cautivando todo intento á la obediencia de Cristo;
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
y teniendo en la mano el poder para vengar toda desobediencia, para cuando hubiereis satisfecho a lo que la obediencia exige de vuestra parte.
Y estando prestos para castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia fuere cumplida.
And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is made full.
Mirad las cosas al menos según se dejan ver. Si alguno se precia de ser de Cristo , considere así mismo para consigo que así como él es de Cristo , también lo somos nosotros.
Miráis las cosas según la apariencia. Si alguno está confiado en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también piense por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo.
Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that even as he is Christ’s, so we also are Christ’s.
Porque, aun cuando yo me gloriase un poco más de la potestad que el Señor nos dio para vuestra edificación, y no para vuestra ruina, no tendré de qué avergonzarme;
Porque aunque me gloríe aún un poco de nuestra potestad (la cual el Señor nos dió para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción), no me avergonzaré;
For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
For even if I boast somewhat abundantly concerning our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for casting you down, I will not be ashamed,
pero me abstengo, porque no parezca que pretendo aterraros con mis cartas,
Porque no parezca como que os quiero espantar por cartas.
That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
that I may not seem as if I desire to terrify you by my letters.
ya que ellos andan diciendo: Las cartas, sí, son graves y vehementes; mas el aspecto de la persona es ruin, y despreciable o tosco su lenguaje.
Porque á la verdad, dicen, las cartas son graves y fuertes; mas la presencia corporal flaca, y la palabra menospreciable.
For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
For, “His letters”, they say, “are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised.”
Sepa aquel que así habla, que cuando nos hallemos presentes, obraremos de la misma manera que hablamos en nuestras cartas, estando ausentes.
Esto piense el tal, que cuales somos en la palabra por cartas estando ausentes, tales seremos también en hechos, estando presentes.
Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present.
A la verdad no nos atrevemos a ponernos en la clase de ciertos sujetos que se ensalzan a sí mismos, ni a compararnos con ellos; sino que nos medimos por lo que somos, comparándonos con nosotros mismos.
Porque no osamos entremeternos ó compararnos con algunos que se alaban á sí mismos: mas ellos, midiéndose á sí mismos por sí mismos, y comparándose consigo mismos no son juiciosos.
For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.
Por tanto, no nos gloriaremos desmesuradamente, sino a medida de la regla que Dios nos ha dado, medida que alcanza hasta vosotros.
Nosotros empero, no nos gloriaremos fuera de nuestra medida, sino conforme á la medida de la regla, de la medida que Dios nos repartió, para llegar aun hasta vosotros.
But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you.
Porque no hemos excedido los límites, como si no alcanzásemos hasta vosotros, puesto que hasta vosotros hemos llegado predicando la buena nueva de Cristo ;
Porque no nos extendemos sobre nuestra medida, como si no llegásemos hasta vosotros: porque también hasta vosotros hemos llegado en el evangelio de Cristo:
For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
For we don’t stretch ourselves too much, as though we didn’t reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ,
ni nos gloriamos desmesuradamente atribuyéndonos las fatigas de otros; esperamos, sí, que yendo vuestra fe siempre en aumento, haremos, sin salir de nuestros límites, mayores progresos entre vosotros,
No gloriándonos fuera de nuestra medida en trabajos ajenos; mas teniendo esperanza del crecimiento de vuestra fe, que seremos muy engrandecidos entre vosotros, conforme á nuestra regla.
Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
not boasting beyond proper limits in other men’s labors, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence,
llevando también la buena nueva a otras partes que están más allá de vosotros, ni nos gloriaremos de aquello que esté cultivado dentro del término a otros señalado.
Y que anunciaremos el evangelio en los lugares más allá de vosotros, sin entrar en la medida de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba aparejado.
To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
so as to preach the Good News even to the parts beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.
Por lo demás, el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.
Mas el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.
But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
But “he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”
Pues no es aprobado quien se abona a sí mismo; sino aquel a quien Dios abona o alaba.
Porque no el que se alaba á sí mismo, el tal es aprobado; mas aquel á quien Dios alaba.
For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
For it isn’t he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
