Por eso decidí no hacerles otra visita que les causara tristeza.
ESTO pues determiné para conmigo, no venir otra vez á vosotros con tristeza.

Porque si yo los entristezco, ¿quién me alegrará a mí, sino aquel a quien yo mismo he entristecido?

Por eso les escribí como lo hice, para que al llegar no me entristecieran los mismos que debían alegrarme. Estaba seguro de que mi alegría sería compartida por todos ustedes.
Y esto mismo os escribí, porque cuando llegare no tenga tristeza sobre tristeza de los que me debiera gozar; confiando en vosotros todos que mi gozo es el de todos vosotros.
And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
And I wrote this very thing to you, so that when I came, I wouldn’t have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be shared by all of you.
Porque les escribí con gran aflicción y angustia de corazón, y con muchas lágrimas, no para entristecerlos, sino para que supieran cuánto los amo.

Si alguno ha causado tristeza, no me la ha causado solo a mí; hasta cierto punto, y para no exagerar, se la ha causado a todos ustedes.

But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

El castigo que le impuso la mayoría es suficiente para esa persona.
Bástale al tal esta reprensión hecha de muchos;
Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

Ahora, por el contrario, deben perdonarlo y consolarlo, para que no sea consumido por demasiada tristeza.
Así que, al contrario, vosotros más bien lo perdonéis y consoléis, porque no sea el tal consumido de demasiada tristeza.
So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

Por eso les ruego que le demuestren nuevamente su amor.
Por lo cual os ruego que confirméis el amor para con él.

El propósito de mi carta era también comprobar si ustedes eran obedientes en todo.

para que Satanás no se aproveche de nosotros, pues conocemos muy bien sus malas intenciones.
Porque no seamos engañados de Satanás: pues no ignoramos sus maquinaciones.
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Porque somos como el dulce olor de Cristo que sube a Dios, y se esparce tanto entre los que se salvan como entre los que se pierden.

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

Para los que se pierden, es olor que lleva a la muerte; pero para los que se salvan, es olor que da vida. ¿Y quién es capaz de hacer este trabajo?
A éstos ciertamente olor de muerte para muerte; y á aquéllos olor de vida para vida. Y para estas cosas ¿quién es suficiente?
To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
to the one a stench from death to death, to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?
A diferencia de muchos, nosotros no vendemos la palabra de Dios por dinero. Al contrario, hablamos con sinceridad delante de Dios, como enviados suyos que somos en Cristo.
Porque no somos como muchos, mercaderes falsos de la palabra de Dios: antes con sinceridad, como de Dios, delante de Dios, hablamos en Cristo.
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.
