1Fangen wir wiederum an, uns selbst zu empfehlen? Oder bedürfen wir etwa, wie etliche, Empfehlungsbriefe an euch oder [Empfehlungsbriefe] von euch?
2Ihr seid unser Brief, eingeschrieben in unsere Herzen, gekannt und gelesen von allen Menschen;
3die ihr offenbar geworden, daß ihr ein Brief Christi seid, angefertigt durch uns im Dienst, geschrieben nicht mit Tinte, sondern mit dem Geiste des lebendigen Gottes, nicht auf steinerne Tafeln, sondern auf fleischerne Tafeln des Herzens.
4Solches Vertrauen aber haben wir durch Christum zu Gott:
5nicht daß wir von uns selbst aus tüchtig sind, etwas zu denken, als aus uns selbst, sondern unsere Tüchtigkeit ist von Gott,
6der uns auch tüchtig gemacht hat zu Dienern des neuen Bundes, nicht des Buchstabens, sondern des Geistes. Denn der Buchstabe tötet, der Geist aber macht lebendig.
7(Wenn aber der Dienst des Todes, mit Buchstaben in Steine eingegraben, in Herrlichkeit begann, so daß die Söhne Israels das Angesicht Moses' nicht unverwandt anschauen konnten wegen der Herrlichkeit seines Angesichts, die hinweggetan werden sollte,
8wie wird nicht vielmehr der Dienst des Geistes in Herrlichkeit bestehen?
9Denn wenn der Dienst der Verdammnis Herrlichkeit ist, so ist vielmehr der Dienst der Gerechtigkeit überströmend in Herrlichkeit.
10Denn auch das Verherrlichte ist nicht in dieser Beziehung verherrlicht worden, wegen der überschwenglichen Herrlichkeit.
11Denn wenn das, was hinweggetan werden sollte, mit Herrlichkeit eingeführt wurde, wieviel mehr wird das Bleibende in Herrlichkeit bestehen!
12Da wir nun eine solche Hoffnung haben, so gebrauchen wir große Freimütigkeit,
13und tun nicht gleichwie Moses, der eine Decke über sein Angesicht legte, auf daß die Söhne Israels nicht anschauen möchten das Ende dessen, was hinweggetan werden sollte.
14Aber ihr Sinn ist verstockt worden, denn bis auf den heutigen Tag bleibt beim Lesen des alten Bundes dieselbe Decke unaufgedeckt, die in Christo weggetan wird.
15Aber bis auf den heutigen Tag, wenn Moses gelesen wird, liegt die Decke auf ihrem Herzen.
16Wenn es aber zum Herrn umkehren wird, so wird die Decke weggenommen.)
17Der Herr aber ist der Geist; wo aber der Geist des Herrn ist, ist Freiheit.
18Wir alle aber, mit aufgedecktem Angesicht die Herrlichkeit des Herrn anschauend, werden verwandelt nach demselben Bilde von Herrlichkeit zu Herrlichkeit, als durch den Herrn, den Geist.

1¿COMENZAMOS otra vez á alabarnos á nosotros mismos? ¿ó tenemos necesidad, como algunos, de letras de recomendación para vosotros, ó de recomendación de vosotros?
2Nuestras letras sois vosotros, escritas en nuestros corazones, sabidas y leídas de todos los hombres;
3Siendo manifiesto que sois letra de Cristo administrada de nosotros, escrita no con tinta, mas con el Espíritu del Dios vivo; no en tablas de piedra, sino en tablas de carne del corazón.
4Y tal confianza tenemos por Cristo para con Dios:
5No que seamos suficientes de nosotros mismos para pensar algo como de nosotros mismos, sino que nuestra suficiencia es de Dios;
6El cual asimismo nos hizo ministros suficientes de un nuevo pacto: no de la letra, mas del espíritu; porque la letra mata, mas el espíritu vivifica.
7Y si el ministerio de muerte en la letra grabado en piedras, fué con gloria, tanto que los hijos de Israel no pudiesen poner los ojos en la faz de Moisés á causa de la gloria de su rostro, la cual había de perecer,
8¿Cómo no será más bien con gloria el ministerio del espíritu?
9Porque si el ministerio de condenación fué con gloria, mucho más abundará en gloria el ministerio de justicia.
10Porque aun lo que fué glorioso, no es glorioso en esta parte, en comparación de la excelente gloria.
11Porque si lo que perece tuvo gloria, mucho más será en gloria lo que permanece.
12Así que, teniendo tal esperanza, hablamos con mucha confianza;
13Y no como Moisés, que ponía un velo sobre su faz, para que los hijos de Israel no pusiesen los ojos en el fin de lo que había de ser abolido.
14Empero los sentidos de ellos se embotaron; porque hasta el día de hoy les queda el mismo velo no descubierto en la lección del antiguo testamento, el cual por Cristo es quitado.
15Y aun hasta el día de hoy, cuando Moisés es leído, el velo está puesto sobre el corazón de ellos.
16Mas cuando se convirtieren al Señor, el velo se quitará.
17Porque el Señor es el Espíritu; y donde hay el Espíritu del Señor, allí hay libertad.
18Por tanto, nosotros todos, mirando á cara descubierta como en un espejo la gloria del Señor, somos transformados de gloria en gloria en la misma semejanza, como por el Espíritu del Señor.

1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
World English Bible
1Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you?
2You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men,
3being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
4Such confidence we have through Christ toward God,
5not that we are sufficient of ourselves to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God,
6who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face, which was passing away,
8won’t service of the Spirit be with much more glory?
9For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
10For most certainly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses.
11For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
12Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
13and not as Moses, who put a veil on his face so that the children of Israel wouldn’t look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away.
14But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.
15But to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
