1Cominciamo noi di nuovo a raccomandar noi stessi? O abbiam noi bisogno, come alcuni, di lettere di raccomandazione presso di voi o da voi?
2Siete voi la nostra lettera, scritta nei nostri cuori, conosciuta e letta da tutti gli uomini;
3essendo manifesto che voi siete una lettera di Cristo, scritta mediante il nostro ministerio, scritta non con inchiostro, ma con lo Spirito dell’Iddio vivente; non su tavole di pietra, ma su tavole che son cuori di carne.
4E una tal confidanza noi l’abbiamo per mezzo di Cristo presso Dio.
5Non già che siam di per noi stessi capaci di pensare alcun che, come venendo da noi;
6ma la nostra capacità viene da Dio, che ci ha anche resi capaci d’esser ministri d’un nuovo patto, non di lettera, ma di spirito; perché la lettera uccide, ma lo spirito vivifica.
7Ora se il ministerio della morte scolpito in lettere su pietre fu circondato di gloria, talché i figliuoli d’Israele non poteano fissar lo sguardo nel volto di Mosè a motivo della gloria, che pur svaniva, del volto di lui,
8non sarà il ministerio dello Spirito circondato di molto maggior gloria?
9Se, infatti, il ministerio della condanna fu con gloria, molto più abbonda in gloria il ministerio della giustizia.
10Anzi, quel che nel primo fu reso glorioso, non fu reso veramente glorioso, quando lo si confronti colla gloria di tanto superiore del secondo;
11perché, se ciò che aveva da sparire fu circondato di gloria, molto più ha da esser glorioso ciò che ha da durare.
12Avendo dunque una tale speranza, noi usiamo grande franchezza,
13e non facciamo come Mosè, che si metteva un velo sulla faccia, perché i figliuoli d’Israele non fissassero lo sguardo nella fine di ciò che doveva sparire.
14Ma le loro menti furon rese ottuse; infatti, sino al dì d’oggi, quando fanno la lettura dell’antico patto, lo stesso velo rimane, senz’essere rimosso, perché è in Cristo ch’esso è abolito.
15Ma fino ad oggi, quando si legge Mosè, un velo rimane steso sul cuor loro;
16quando però si saranno convertiti al Signore, il velo sarà rimosso.
17Ora, il Signore è lo Spirito; e dov’è lo Spirito del Signore, quivi è libertà.
18E noi tutti contemplando a viso scoperto, come in uno specchio, la gloria del Signore, siamo trasformati nell’istessa immagine di lui, di gloria in gloria, secondo che opera il Signore, che è Spirito.

1¿COMENZAMOS otra vez á alabarnos á nosotros mismos? ¿ó tenemos necesidad, como algunos, de letras de recomendación para vosotros, ó de recomendación de vosotros?
2Nuestras letras sois vosotros, escritas en nuestros corazones, sabidas y leídas de todos los hombres;
3Siendo manifiesto que sois letra de Cristo administrada de nosotros, escrita no con tinta, mas con el Espíritu del Dios vivo; no en tablas de piedra, sino en tablas de carne del corazón.
4Y tal confianza tenemos por Cristo para con Dios:
5No que seamos suficientes de nosotros mismos para pensar algo como de nosotros mismos, sino que nuestra suficiencia es de Dios;
6El cual asimismo nos hizo ministros suficientes de un nuevo pacto: no de la letra, mas del espíritu; porque la letra mata, mas el espíritu vivifica.
7Y si el ministerio de muerte en la letra grabado en piedras, fué con gloria, tanto que los hijos de Israel no pudiesen poner los ojos en la faz de Moisés á causa de la gloria de su rostro, la cual había de perecer,
8¿Cómo no será más bien con gloria el ministerio del espíritu?
9Porque si el ministerio de condenación fué con gloria, mucho más abundará en gloria el ministerio de justicia.
10Porque aun lo que fué glorioso, no es glorioso en esta parte, en comparación de la excelente gloria.
11Porque si lo que perece tuvo gloria, mucho más será en gloria lo que permanece.
12Así que, teniendo tal esperanza, hablamos con mucha confianza;
13Y no como Moisés, que ponía un velo sobre su faz, para que los hijos de Israel no pusiesen los ojos en el fin de lo que había de ser abolido.
14Empero los sentidos de ellos se embotaron; porque hasta el día de hoy les queda el mismo velo no descubierto en la lección del antiguo testamento, el cual por Cristo es quitado.
15Y aun hasta el día de hoy, cuando Moisés es leído, el velo está puesto sobre el corazón de ellos.
16Mas cuando se convirtieren al Señor, el velo se quitará.
17Porque el Señor es el Espíritu; y donde hay el Espíritu del Señor, allí hay libertad.
18Por tanto, nosotros todos, mirando á cara descubierta como en un espejo la gloria del Señor, somos transformados de gloria en gloria en la misma semejanza, como por el Espíritu del Señor.

1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
6Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
7But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
8How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
12Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
15But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
17Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
World English Bible
1Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as do some, letters of commendation to you or from you?
2You are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by all men,
3being revealed that you are a letter of Christ, served by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tablets of stone, but in tablets that are hearts of flesh.
4Such confidence we have through Christ toward God,
5not that we are sufficient of ourselves to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God,
6who also made us sufficient as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
7But if the service of death, written engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly on the face of Moses for the glory of his face, which was passing away,
8won’t service of the Spirit be with much more glory?
9For if the service of condemnation has glory, the service of righteousness exceeds much more in glory.
10For most certainly that which has been made glorious has not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasses.
11For if that which passes away was with glory, much more that which remains is in glory.
12Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,
13and not as Moses, who put a veil on his face so that the children of Israel wouldn’t look steadfastly on the end of that which was passing away.
14But their minds were hardened, for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains, because in Christ it passes away.
15But to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart.
16But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
