Puesto que tenemos tan grandes promesas, amados hermanos, apartémonos del mal, ya sea mal corporal o espiritual. Así en el temor de Dios procuraremos ser completamente santos.
ASÍ que, amados, pues tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda inmundicia de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santificación en temor de Dios.

And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

Ya no me pesa haberles mandado aquella carta, aunque durante algún tiempo me dolió pensar en lo doloroso que debió haber sido para ustedes.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
For though I grieved you with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I see that my letter made you grieve, though just for a while.
Ahora me alegro de haberla enviado, no porque les dolió sino porque aquel dolor los condujo al arrepentimiento. El dolor que sintieron es el que Dios desea que su pueblo sienta, y por lo tanto no les hice daño.
Ahora me gozo, no porque hayáis sido contristados, sino porque fuisteis contristados para arrepentimiento; porque habéis sido contristados según Dios, para que ninguna pérdida padecieseis por nuestra parte.
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

Dios a veces permite que nos vengan tristezas para impulsarnos a apartarnos del pecado y tener la salvación. Jamás debemos quejarnos de estas tristezas. Pero las tristezas del mundo sólo producen muerte.
Porque el dolor que es según Dios, obra arrepentimiento saludable, de que no hay que arrepentirse; mas el dolor del siglo obra muerte.
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death.
¿Se dan cuenta de lo provechosa que fue para ustedes la tristeza que les envió el Señor? Ya no se encogen de hombros, como hacían antes, sino que actuaron rápido, me defendieron y se indignaron. Temerosos por lo que había sucedido, ansiaron que fuera a ayudarlos. Pero, sin perder tiempo, afrontaron el problema y lo resolvieron castigando al que pecó. Así demostraron que no fue culpa de ustedes.
Porque he aquí, esto mismo que según Dios fuisteis contristados, cuánta solicitud ha obrado en vosotros, y aun defensa, y aun enojo, y aun temor, y aun gran deseo, y aun celo, y aun vindicación. En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el negocio.
For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
For behold, this same thing, that you were grieved in a godly way, what earnest care it worked in you. Yes, what defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and vindication! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter.
Si les escribí como lo hice, no fue pensado en quien ofendió o en quién recibió la ofensa. Fue para que ustedes se dieran cuenta delante de Dios de lo mucho que ustedes se interesan en nosotros.
Así que, aunque os escribí, no fué por causa del que hizo la injuria, ni por causa del que la padeció, mas para que os fuese manifiesta nuestra solicitud que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.
Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
So although I wrote to you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be revealed in you in the sight of God.
Todo esto nos da nuevos ánimos. Pero mucho más nos alentó y alegró el gozo de Tito por el cálido recibimiento que le dieron y por la tranquilidad que recobró entre ustedes.
Por tanto, tomamos consolación de vuestra consolación: empero mucho más nos gozamos por el gozo de Tito, que haya sido recreado su espíritu de todos vosotros.
Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Me alegró mucho que no me hicieran quedar mal. Al contrario, así como todo lo que les dijimos a ustedes fue verdad, también lo que le dije a Tito de ustedes resultó cierto.
Pues si algo me he gloriado para con él de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado; antes, como todo lo que habíamos dicho de vosotros era con verdad, así también nuestra gloria delante de Tito fué hallada verdadera.
For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.
For if in anything I have boasted to him on your behalf, I was not disappointed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, so our glorying also which I made before Titus was found to be truth.
Él los ama más que nunca, sobre todo cuando recuerda la obediencia que le prestaron y la humildad con que lo recibieron.
Y sus entrañas son más abundantes para con vosotros, cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos vosotros, de cómo lo recibisteis con temor y temblor.
And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

¡Cuánto me alegra esto! ¡Sé que puedo tener plena confianza en ustedes!
