Ahora estoy feliz, no por entristecerlos, sino porque esa tristeza los hizo cambiar. Llegaron a sentir la tristeza de una manera que Dios aprueba, por lo tanto no les hicimos daño de ninguna manera.
Ahora me gozo, no porque hayáis sido contristados, sino porque fuisteis contristados para arrepentimiento; porque habéis sido contristados según Dios, para que ninguna pérdida padecieseis por nuestra parte.
Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

La tristeza que Dios quiere que sintamos es la que nos lleva al arrepentimiento y trae salvación. Esta clase de tristeza no trae consigo ningún tipo de remordimiento, pero la tristeza mundanal trae muerte.
Porque el dolor que es según Dios, obra arrepentimiento saludable, de que no hay que arrepentirse; mas el dolor del siglo obra muerte.
For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death.
Miren, por ejemplo, lo que ocurrió cuando tuvieron esta misma experiencia de tristeza que viene de Dios. Recuerden cuán empeñados y afanados se volvieron por defenderse, cuánto enojo sintieron por lo que había sucedido, con cuanta seriedad asumieron las cosas, y cuánto anhelo tenían por hacer lo recto; estaban muy preocupados y deseosos de que se hiciera justicia. En todo esto ustedes demostraron que eran sinceros en su deseo de hacer las cosas rectamente.
Porque he aquí, esto mismo que según Dios fuisteis contristados, cuánta solicitud ha obrado en vosotros, y aun defensa, y aun enojo, y aun temor, y aun gran deseo, y aun celo, y aun vindicación. En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el negocio.
For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
For behold, this same thing, that you were grieved in a godly way, what earnest care it worked in you. Yes, what defense, indignation, fear, longing, zeal, and vindication! In everything you demonstrated yourselves to be pure in the matter.
Así que cuando les escribí, no era para hablarles respecto al agresor ni del agredido, sino para mostrarles cuán fieles son ustedes a nosotros, ante los ojos de Dios.
Así que, aunque os escribí, no fué por causa del que hizo la injuria, ni por causa del que la padeció, mas para que os fuese manifiesta nuestra solicitud que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.
Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
So although I wrote to you, I wrote not for his cause that did the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered the wrong, but that your earnest care for us might be revealed in you in the sight of God.
Esto nos anima en gran manera. Además de este ánimo, nos alegró ver cuán feliz estaba Tito porque ustedes le dieron fortaleza.
Por tanto, tomamos consolación de vuestra consolación: empero mucho más nos gozamos por el gozo de Tito, que haya sido recreado su espíritu de todos vosotros.
Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Me enorgullecí de ustedes al hablar con él, y no me defraudaron. Así como todas las demás cosas que les digo son verdaderas, mis elogios sobre ustedes hacia Tito resultaron ser verdaderos también.
Pues si algo me he gloriado para con él de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado; antes, como todo lo que habíamos dicho de vosotros era con verdad, así también nuestra gloria delante de Tito fué hallada verdadera.
For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.
