1Esta carta viene de parte del anciano a la dama escogida y a sus hijos, a quienes amo en la verdad. No solo de mi parte, sino de parte de todos los que conocen la verdad,
2porque la verdad vive en nosotros y estará con nosotros para siempre.
3Que la gracia, la misericordia y la paz sigan con nosotros, de parte de Dios el Padre y de Jesucristo, el Hijo del Padre, en verdad y en amor.
4Me alegré al saber que algunos de tus hijos están siguiendo la verdad, como el Padre nos mandó.
5Ahora te digo, apreciada hermana, no como una instrucción, sino siguiendo lo que entendimos desde el principio, que debemos amarnos unos a otros.
6Y esto es el amor: que sigamos los mandamientos de Dios. Y el mandamiento, como oíste desde el principio, es que debemos vivir en amor.
7Te digo estas cosas porque han salido muchos engañadores al mundo. Personas que no aceptan que Jesucristo ha venido como ser humano. Y cualquiera que sea así es un engañador y anticristo.
8Ten cuidado de no perder aquello por lo que hemos trabajado tanto, y que recibas lo que te corresponde.
9Todos aquellos que se vuelven extremistas y no siguen la enseñanza de Cristo, ni tienen a Dios. Los que siguen la enseñanza de Cristo tienen tanto al Padre como al Hijo en ellos.
10Si la gente se acerca a ti y no dan evidencias de la enseñanza de Cristo, no los recibas no los aceptes,
11porque si los animas, participas de sus malas obras.
12Tengo tantas cosas que decirte pero que no las escribiré más con tinta, porque espero visitarte y hablar contigo cara a cara. ¡Eso nos haría muy felices!

1EL anciano á la señora elegida y á sus hijos, á los cuales yo amo en verdad; y no yo solo, sino también todos los que han conocido la verdad,
2Por la verdad que está en nosotros, y será perpetuamente con nosotros:
3Sea con vosotros gracia, misericordia, y paz de Dios Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo, Hijo del Padre, en verdad y en amor.
4Mucho me he gozado, porque he hallado de tus hijos, que andan en verdad, como nosotros hemos recibido el mandamiento del Padre.
5Y ahora te ruego, señora, no como escribiéndote un nuevo mandamiento, sino aquel que nosotros hemos tenido desde el principio, que nos amemos unos á otros.
6Y este es amor, que andemos según sus mandamientos. Este es el mandamiento: Que andéis en él, como vosotros habéis oído desde el principio.
7Porque muchos engañadores son entrados en el mundo, los cuales no confiesan que Jesucristo ha venido en carne. Este tal el engañador es, y el anticristo.
8Mirad por vosotros mismos, porque no perdamos las cosas que hemos obrado, sino que recibamos galardón cumplido.
9Cualquiera que se rebela, y no persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, no tiene á Dios: el que persevera en la doctrina de Cristo, el tal tiene al Padre y al Hijo.
10Si alguno viene á vosotros, y no trae esta doctrina, no lo recibáis en casa, ni le digáis: ¡bienvenido!
11Porque el que le dice bienvenido, comunica con sus malas obras.
12Aunque tengo muchas cosas que escribiros, no he querido comunicarlas por medio de papel y tinta; mas espero ir á vosotros, y hablar boca á boca, para que nuestro gozo sea cumplido.
13Los hijos de tu hermana elegida te saludan. Amén.

1The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
2For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.
3Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
5And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
7For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
12Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
13The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
World English Bible
1The elder, to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not I only, but also all those who know the truth,
2for the truth’s sake, which remains in us, and it will be with us forever:
3Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
4I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.
5Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.
7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.
8Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.
9Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
10If anyone comes to you and doesn’t bring this teaching, don’t receive him into your house, and don’t welcome him,
11for he who welcomes him participates in his evil deeds.
12Having many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you and to speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.
13The children of your chosen sister greet you. Amen.
