1Durante el segundo año del reinado de Joás, de Israel, el rey Amasías comenzó su reinado sobre Judá.
2Amasías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. (Su madre era Joadán, de Jerusalén).
3Fue un buen rey ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no a la manera de su antepasado David. Pero fue un buen rey como su padre Joás.
4Sin embargo, no destruyó los altares de las colinas, de manera que el pueblo seguía sacrificando y quemando incienso en ellos.
5En cuanto se afirmó en el poder, hizo matar a los hombres que habían dado muerte a su padre;
6pero no mató a los hijos de ellos, porque el Señor había ordenado en la ley de Moisés que los padres no murieran por la culpa de los hijos, ni los hijos por los pecados de sus padres: cada uno debía pagar la culpa de su propio pecado.
7En una ocasión, Amasías dio muerte a diez mil edomitas en el valle de la Sal; también conquistó la ciudad de Selá, y le cambió el nombre por el de Joctel, como se le conoce hasta este día.
8Un día envió un mensaje a Joás hijo de Joacaz y nieto de Jehú, rey de Israel, en que lo desafiaba a que saliera a la guerra contra él.
9Pero el rey Joás le respondió: «El cardo del Líbano le dijo al poderoso cedro: “Entrégame a tu hija para que sea esposa de mi hijo”. Pero luego pasó un animal salvaje y pisó al cardo, y lo destrozó.
10Has vencido a Edom y te sientes orgulloso de ello, pero mi consejo es que te sientas contento con tu triunfo y te quedes en casa. ¿Por qué provocar un desastre para ti y para Judá?».
11Pero Amasías se negó a oír. Entonces, el rey Joás de Israel salió a enfrentársele. La batalla comenzó en Bet Semes, una de las ciudades de Judá.
12Judá fue derrotado, y huyó.
13El rey Amasías fue capturado, y Joás marchó sobre Jerusalén y derribó sus murallas, desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la Esquina, como unos ciento ochenta metros.
14También se llevó a muchos rehenes, y todo el oro y la plata del templo del Señor y de la tesorería de la casa real, además de las copas de oro. Luego regresó a Samaria.
15El resto de la historia de Joás y de su guerra contra el rey Amasías, de Judá, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Israel.
16Cuando Joás murió, fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel, y su hijo Jeroboán fue el nuevo rey.
17Amasías, rey de Judá, vivió quince años más que Joás, rey de Israel.
18El resto de su biografía está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá.
19Hubo una conspiración contra su vida en Jerusalén, y él huyó a Laquis; pero sus enemigos lo persiguieron, y allí lo mataron.
20Lo llevaron después en caballos, y lo sepultaron en el cementerio real, en la Ciudad de David, en Jerusalén.
21Entonces, el pueblo de Judá tomó a Azarías hijo de Amasías, y lo puso por rey de Judá. En ese momento Azarías tenía dieciséis años.
22Fue él quien, tras la muerte de su padre, reconstruyó la ciudad de Elat y la devolvió a Judá.
23Jeroboán hijo de Joás comenzó a reinar en Israel cuando Amasías hijo de Joás llevaba quince años reinando en Judá. A este Jeroboán se le conoce como Jeroboán II, y reinó en Samaria durante cuarenta y un años.
24Pero fue tan malo como Jeroboán hijo de Nabat, que había hecho pecar a Israel haciéndolo adorar ídolos.
25Jeroboán II recuperó los territorios perdidos de Israel entre Lebó Jamat y el mar de Arabá, tal como el Señor, Dios de Israel, lo había anunciado por medio de Jonás hijo de Amitay, el profeta de Gat Jefer.
26Porque el Señor había visto la situación tan triste en que estaban los habitantes de Israel, tanto libres como esclavos, y que no tenían quién los defendiera.
27Así que el Señor los libró por medio de Jeroboán II, pues aún no había decidido hacer desaparecer al pueblo de Israel.
28El resto de la biografía de Jeroboán, todo lo que hizo, su gran poder, sus guerras, y cómo recuperó Damasco y Jamat (que habían sido capturadas por Judá) está registrado en el libro de los reyes de Israel.
29Cuando murió Jeroboán II fue sepultado con los demás reyes de Israel, y su hijo Zacarías fue el nuevo rey de Israel.

1EN el año segundo de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, comenzó á reinar Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá.
2Cuando comenzó á reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalem: el nombre de su madre fué Joaddan, de Jerusalem.
3Y él hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como David su padre: hizo conforme á todas las cosas que había hecho Joas su padre.
4Con todo eso los altos no fueron quitados; que el pueblo aun sacrificaba y quemaba perfumes en los altos.
5Y luego que el reino fué confirmado en su mano, hirió á sus siervos, los que habían muerto al rey su padre.
6Mas no mató á los hijos de los que le mataron, conforme á lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo: No matarán á los padres por los hijos, ni á los hijos por los padres: mas cada uno morirá por su pecado.
7Este hirió asimismo diez mil Idumeos en el valle de las Salinas, y tomó á Sela por guerra, y llamóla Jocteel, hasta hoy.
8Entonces Amasías envió embajadores á Joas, hijo de Joachâz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, y veámonos de rostro.
9Y Joas rey de Israel envió á Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardillo que está en el Líbano envió á decir al cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer á mi hijo. Y pasaron las bestias fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardillo.
10Ciertamente has herido á Edom, y tu corazón te ha envanecido: gloríate pues, mas estáte en tu casa. ¿Y por qué te entrometerás en un mal, para que caigas tú, y Judá contigo?
11Mas Amasías no dió oídos; por lo que subió Joas rey de Israel, y viéronse de rostro él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Beth-semes, que es de Judá.
12Y Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron cada uno á sus estancias.
13Además Joas rey de Israel tomó á Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joas hijo de Ochôzías, en Beth-semes: y vino á Jerusalem, y rompió el muro de Jerusalem desde la puerta de Ephraim hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.
14Y tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los vasos que fueron hallados en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos en rehenes, y volvióse á Samaria.
15Lo demás de los hechos de Joas que ejecutó, y sus hazañas, y cómo peleó contra Amasías rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
16Y durmió Joas con sus padres, y fué sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.
17Y Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joas hijo de Joachâz rey de Israel, quince años.
18Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
19E hicieron conspiración contra él en Jerusalem, y él huyó á Lachîs; mas enviaron tras él á Lachîs, y allá lo mataron.
20Trajéronlo luego sobre caballos, y sepultáronlo en Jerusalem con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.
21Entonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó á Azarías, que era de diez y seis años, é hiciéronlo rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.
22Edificó él á Elath, y la restituyó á Judá, después que el rey durmió con sus padres.
23El año quince de Amasías hijo de Joas rey de Judá, comenzó á reinar Jeroboam hijo de Joas sobre Israel en Samaria; y reinó cuarenta y un años.
24E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, y no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar á Israel.
25El restituyó los términos de Israel desde la entrada de Amath hasta la mar de la llanura, conforme á la palabra de Jehová Dios de Israel, la cual había él hablado por su siervo Jonás hijo de Amittai, profeta que fué de Gath-hepher.
26Por cuanto Jehová miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había guardado ni desamparado, ni quien diese ayuda á Israel;
27Y Jehová no había determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo: por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joas.
28Y lo demás de los hechos de Jeroboam, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó á Judá en Israel á Damasco y á Hamath, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?
29Y durmió Jeroboam con sus padres, los reyes de Israel, y reinó en su lugar Zachârías su hijo.

1In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel reigned Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah.
2He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
3And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all things as Joash his father did.
4Howbeit the high places were not taken away: as yet the people did sacrifice and burnt incense on the high places.
5And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was confirmed in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father.
6But the children of the murderers he slew not: according unto that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
7He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel unto this day.
8Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.
9And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.
10Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory of this, and tarry at home: for why shouldest thou meddle to thy hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?
11But Amaziah would not hear. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.
12And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to their tents.
13And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
14And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.
15Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
16And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.
17And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.
18And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
19Now they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem: and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.
20And they brought him on horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.
21And all the people of Judah took Azariah, which was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.
22He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
23In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, and reigned forty and one years.
24And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.
25He restored the coast of Israel from the entering of Hamath unto the sea of the plain, according to the word of the LORD God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah, the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.
26For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.
27And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.
28Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
29And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zachariah his son reigned in his stead.

11But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.
12Judah was defeated by Israel; and each man fled to his tent.
13Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh and came to Jerusalem, then broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.
