Quando Peca, filho de Remalias, estava no décimo sexto ano do seu reinado em Israel, Acaz, filho de Jotão, começou a reinar em Judá.

EN el año diecisiete de Peka hijo de Remalías, comenzó á reinar Achâz hijo de Jotham rey de Judá.

Acaz começou a reinar quando tinha vinte anos de idade. Ele reinou dezesseis anos em Jerusalém. Acaz não seguiu o exemplo de Davi, seu antepassado, e não fez o que era bom aos olhos do Senhor, o seu Deus.

Twenty years old was Ahaz when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and did not that which was right in the sight of the LORD his God, like David his father.

Ele seguiu os exemplos dos reis de Israel e chegou a ponto de matar seu próprio filho, oferecendo-o como sacrifício queimado aos deuses falsos, seguindo os costumes abomináveis das nações ao redor de Judá, que o Senhor havia expulsado quando o povo de Israel entrou na terra.

Além disso, ele sacrificava e queimava incenso nos altares idólatras no alto das colinas e debaixo das grandes árvores.

Naquele tempo, Rezim, rei da Síria, retomou a cidade de Elate para a Síria; tirou de lá os judeus e mandou os sírios morarem nessa cidade, e lá vivem até o dia de hoje.

O rei Acaz enviou mensageiros a Tiglate-Pileser, rei da Assíria, com a seguinte mensagem: “Sou seu servo e seu filho. Venha me salvar das mãos do rei da Síria e do rei de Israel, que estão me atacando”.

Entonces Achâz envió embajadores á Tiglath-pileser rey de Asiria, diciendo: Yo soy tu siervo y tu hijo: sube, y defiéndeme de mano del rey de Siria, y de mano del rey de Israel, que se han levantado contra mí.

So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.

Acaz pegou a prata e o ouro do templo e dos cofres reais, e mandou como pagamento ao rei da Assíria.

Y tomando Achâz la plata y el oro que se halló en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa real, envió al rey de Asiria un presente.

Diante disso os assírios atacaram Damasco, a capital da Síria. Levaram embora a população da cidade como escravos para morar em Quir, e mataram Rezim, rei da Síria.

Y atendióle el rey de Asiria; pues subió el rey de Asiria contra Damasco, y tomóla, y trasportó los moradores á Kir, y mató á Resín.

Então o rei Acaz foi a Damasco a fim de encontrar-se com o rei Tiglate-Pileser. Enquanto estava ali, viu um altar no templo dos deuses daquela cidade. Ele anotou as medidas do altar, fez uma planta e a enviou ao sacerdote Urias com uma descrição detalhada para sua construção.

Quando Acaz voltou de Damasco, viu o altar e o inaugurou, oferecendo sacrifícios sobre ele.

Depois retirou o altar de bronze da frente do templo do Senhor. Esse altar ficava entre a entrada do templo do Senhor e o novo altar, e o colocou ao lado norte do novo altar.

And he brought also the brasen altar, which was before the LORD, from the forefront of the house, from between the altar and the house of the LORD, and put it on the north side of the altar.

Então o rei Acaz deu as seguintes instruções ao sacerdote Urias: “Use o grande altar para oferecer as ofertas queimadas da manhã e a oferta de cereal da tarde, os sacrifícios queimados e a oferta de cereais do rei, assim como as ofertas do povo, inclusive as ofertas de bebida feitas pelo povo. Derrame o sangue dos sacrifícios queimados e dos outros sacrifícios sobre o novo altar. O antigo altar só era usado para os casos de buscar orientação”.

Y mandó el rey Achâz al sacerdote Urías, diciendo: En el gran altar encenderás el holocausto de la mañana y el presente de la tarde, y el holocausto del rey y su presente, y asimismo el holocausto de todo el pueblo de la tierra y su presente y sus libaciones: y esparcirás sobre él toda la sangre de holocausto, y toda la sangre de sacrificio: y el altar de bronce será mío para preguntar en él.

And king Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, Upon the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, and the evening meat offering, and the king’s burnt sacrifice, and his meat offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their meat offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle upon it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice: and the brasen altar shall be for me to enquire by.

King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “On the great altar burn the morning burnt offering, the evening meal offering, the king’s burnt offering and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their meal offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice; but the bronze altar will be for me to inquire by.”

O sacerdote Urias fez conforme o rei Acaz lhe ordenou.

E hizo el sacerdote Urías conforme á todas las cosas que el rey Achâz le mandó.

Depois o rei desmanchou os painéis dos suportes que estavam no templo, retirou as travessas e as pias de água que estavam por cima, retirou o tanque grande que se apoiava nos lombos dos bois de bronze e o colocou numa base de pedra.

Y cortó el rey Achâz las cintas de las basas, y quitóles las fuentes; quitó también el mar de sobre los bueyes de bronce que estaban debajo de él, y púsolo sobre el solado de piedra.

And king Ahaz cut off the borders of the bases, and removed the laver from off them; and took down the sea from off the brasen oxen that were under it, and put it upon a pavement of stones.

E, para agradar ao rei da Assíria, Acaz também retirou a plataforma que se usava no sábado, que havia sido construída para os dias de festa, entre o palácio e o templo.

And the covert for the sabbath that they had built in the house, and the king’s entry without, turned he from the house of the LORD for the king of Assyria.

Morreu Acaz e foi sepultado com os seus antepassados, na Cidade de Davi. E seu filho Ezequias passou a ser o novo rei.
