Cuando Ezequías lo oyó, se rasgó las vestiduras, se vistió de cilicio y entró en el Templo del Señor.
Y COMO el rey Ezechîas lo oyó, rasgó sus vestidos, y cubrióse de saco, y entróse en la casa de Jehová.

Ellos le dijeron: “Esto es lo que dice Ezequías: Hoy es un día de angustia, de castigo. Es como cuando los bebés llegan a la entrada del canal de parto, pero no hay fuerzas para darlos a luz.
Que le dijesen: Así ha dicho Ezechîas: Este día es día de angustia, y de reprensión, y de blasfemia; porque los hijos han venido hasta la rotura, y la que pare no tiene fuerzas.
And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.
Tal vez el Señor, tu Dios, al oír el mensaje que el comandante del ejército entregó en nombre de su amo, el rey de Asiria – unmensaje enviado para insultar al Dios vivo – locastigue por sus palabras. Por favor, haz una oración por el remanente de nosotros que aún sobrevive”.
Quizá oirá Jehová tu Dios todas las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual el rey de los Asirios su señor ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y á vituperar con palabras, las cuales Jehová tu Dios ha oído: por tanto, eleva oración por las reliquias que aun se hallan.
It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
It may be the LORD your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”
Después de que los funcionarios de Ezequías le entregaron su mensaje a Isaías,
Vinieron pues los siervos del rey Ezechîas á Isaías.

éste les respondió: “Díganle a su amo: Esto es lo que dice el Señor: ‘No te asustes por las palabras que has oído, las que usan los servidores del rey de Asiria para blasfemar contra mí.
E Isaías les respondió: Así diréis á vuestro señor: Así ha dicho Jehová; No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘The LORD says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Nota cómo voy a asustarlo: oirá un rumor y tendrá que volver a su país. Cuando esté allí lo haré morir a espada’”.
He aquí pondré yo en él un espíritu, y oirá rumor, y volveráse á su tierra: y yo haré que en su tierra caiga á cuchillo.
Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”
El comandante del ejército asirio se marchó y regresó para reunirse con el rey de Asiria, tras oír que el rey había salido de Laquis y estaba atacando Libna.
Y regresando Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria combatiendo á Libna; porque había oído que se había partido de Lachîs.

Senaquerib había recibido un mensaje sobre Tirhaca, rey de Etiopía, que decía: “¡Cuidado! Se ha propuesto atacarte”. Entonces Senaquerib volvió a enviar mensajeros a Ezequías, diciendo:

“Dile a Ezequías, rey de Judá: ‘No dejes que tu Dios, en el que confías, te engañe diciendo que Jerusalén no caerá en manos del rey de Asiria.
Así diréis á Ezechîas rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, para decir: Jerusalem no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
“Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
¡Cuidado! Has oído lo que los reyes de Asiria han hecho a todos los países que han invadido— ¡los destruyeron por completo! ¿Realmente creen que se salvarán?

Ezequías recibió la carta de los mensajeros y la leyó. Luego subió al Templo del Señor y la abrió ante el Señor.
Y tomó Ezechîas las letras de mano de los embajadores; y después que las hubo leído, subió á la casa de Jehová, y extendiólas Ezechîas delante de Jehová.
And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

Entonces Ezequías oró al Señor diciendo: “Señor, Dios de Israel, tú que vives encima de los querubines, sólo tú eres Dios sobre todos los reinos de la tierra, tú eres el Creador del cielo y de la tierra.
Y oró Ezechîas delante de Jehová, diciendo: Jehová Dios de Israel, que habitas entre los querubines, tú solo eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra.
And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.

Por favor, escucha con tus oídos, Señor, y oye; abre tus ojos, Señor, y mira. Escucha el mensaje que Senaquerib ha enviado para insultar al Dios vivo.
Inclina, oh Jehová, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh Jehová, tus ojos, y mira: y oye las palabras de Sennachêrib, que ha enviado á blasfemar al Dios viviente.
LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
Incline your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God.
“Sí, es cierto, Señor, que los reyes asirios han destruido estas naciones y sus tierras.
Es verdad, oh Jehová, que los reyes de Asiria han destruído las gentes y sus tierras;
Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,
Han arrojado sus dioses al fuego porque no son realmente dioses; son sólo obra de manos humanas, hechos de madera y piedra para poder destruirlos.
Y que pusieron en el fuego á sus dioses, por cuanto ellos no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera ó piedra, y así los destruyeron.

Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amoz, envió un mensaje a Ezequías, diciendo: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor, el Dios de Israel: He escuchado tu oración sobre Senaquerib, rey de Asiria.
Entonces Isaías hijo de Amós envió á decir á Ezechîas: Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Lo que me rogaste acerca de Sennachêrib rey de Asiria, he oído.
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.
Esta es la palabra con la que el Señor lo condena: La virgen hija de Sión te desprecia y se burla de ti; la hija de Jerusalén mueve la cabeza cuando huyes.
Esta es la palabra que Jehová ha hablado contra él: Hate menospreciado, hate escarnecido la virgen hija de Sión; ha movido su cabeza detrás de ti la hija de Jerusalem.
This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: ‘The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
¿A quién has insultado y ridiculizado? ¿Contra quién has levantado la voz? ¿A quién miraste con ojos tan orgullosos? ¡Fue contra el Santo de Israel!
¿A quién has injuriado y á quién has blasfemado? ¿y contra quién has hablado alto, y has alzado en alto tus ojos? Contra el Santo de Israel.
Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!
Por medio de tus siervos te has burlado del Señor. Dijiste: ‘Con mis muchos carros he subido a las altas montañas, a las más lejanas cumbres del Líbano. He cortado sus cedros más altos, los mejores cipreses. He llegado a sus puestos más lejanos, a sus bosques más profundos.
Por mano de tus mensajeros has proferido injuria contra el Señor, y has dicho: Con la multitud de mis carros he subido á las cumbres de los montes, á las cuestas del Líbano; y cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; y entraré á la morada de su término, al monte de su Carmel.
By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.
He cavado pozos y bebido agua en tierras extranjeras. Con las plantas de mis pies he secado todos los ríos de Egipto’”.

El Señor responde: “¿No te has enterado? Lo decidí hace mucho tiempo; lo planeé en los viejos tiempos. Ahora me estoy asegurando de que ocurra, de que derribes las ciudades fortificadas hasta convertirlas en montones de escombros.
¿Nunca has oído que mucho tiempo ha yo lo hice, y de días antiguos lo he formado? Y ahora lo he hecho venir, y fué para desolación de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.
Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.
Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.
Supueblo, impotente, está aterrorizado y humillado. Son como plantas en un campo, como brotes verdes y blandos, como hierba que brota en un tejado: están quemados antes de que puedan crecer.
Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, fueron cual hierba del campo, como legumbre verde, y heno de los tejados, que antes que venga á madurez es seco.
Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

“Pero yo te conozco muy bien: dónde vives, cuándo entras, cuándo sales, y tu furia contra mí.
Yo he sabido tu asentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
A causa de tu fiera ira contra mí, y porque sé cómo me faltas al respeto, voy a poner mi garfio en tu nariz y mi bocado en tu boca, y te obligaré a regresar por donde viniste”.
Por cuanto te has airado contra mí, y tu estruendo ha subido á mis oídos, yo por tanto pondré mi anzuelo en tus narices, y mi bocado en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.
Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

“Ezequías, esta será una señal para demostrar que esto es cierto: Este año comerás lo que crezca solo. El segundo año comerás lo que crezca por sí mismo. Pero el tercer año sembrarás y cosecharás, plantarás viñas y comerás su fruto.
Y esto te será por señal Ezechîas: Este año comerás lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que nacerá de suyo; y el tercer año haréis sementera, y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis el fruto de ellas.
And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.
“This will be the sign to you: This year, you will eat that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from that; and in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
El remanente que quede de Judá revivirá de nuevo, echando raíces abajo y dando frutos arriba.
Y lo que hubiere escapado, lo que habrá quedado de la casa de Judá, tornará á echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

Porque de Jerusalén saldrá un remanente, y del monte Sión vendrán supervivientes. La intensa determinación del Señor se encargará de que esto ocurra.
Porque saldrán de Jerusalem reliquias, y los que escaparán, del monte de Sión: el celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.
For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. The LORD’s zeal will perform this.
Esto es lo que dice el Señor sobre el rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad ni lanzará una flecha contra ella. No avanzará hacia ella con un escudo, ni construirá una rampa de asedio contra ella.
Por tanto, Jehová dice así del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella; ni vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
“Therefore the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
Volverá por donde vino y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice el Señor.
Por el camino que vino se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says the LORD.
Yo defenderé esta ciudad y la salvaré, por mí y por mi siervo David”.
Porque yo ampararé á esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.
For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.’”
Aquella noche el ángel del Señor fue al campamento asirio y mató a 185.000 personas. Cuando los supervivientes se despertaron por la mañana, estaban rodeados de cadáveres.
Y aconteció que la misma noche salió el ángel de Jehová, é hirió en el campo de los Asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil; y como se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí los cuerpos de los muertos.
And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
That night, the LORD’s angel went out and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, se rindió y se fue. Regresó a su casa en Nínive y se quedó allí.
Entonces Sennachêrib, rey de Asiria se partió, y se fué y tornó á Nínive, donde se estuvo.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

Mientras adoraba en el templo de su dios Nisroc, sus hijos Adramelec y Sarézer lo mataron con la espada y luego huyeron a la tierra de Ararat. Su hijo Esar-hadón le sucedió como rey.
Y aconteció que, estando él adorando en el templo de Nisroch su dios, Adramelech y Saresar sus hijos lo hirieron á cuchillo; y huyéronse á tierra de Ararat. Y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.
And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.
