No décimo oitavo ano do reinado de Josafá em Judá, Jorão, filho de Acabe, começou a governar o povo de Israel. O seu governo durou doze anos. A capital de Israel era Samaria.

Y JORAM hijo de Achâb comenzó á reinar en Samaria sobre Israel el año dieciocho de Josaphat rey de Judá; y reinó doce años.

Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

Jorão fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor, porém seu pai e também sua mãe foram piores do que ele. Pelo menos Jorão derrubou a coluna de Baal que seu pai havia feito.

E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como su padre y su madre; porque quitó las estatuas de Baal que su padre había hecho.

And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, but not like his father and like his mother, for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.

Apesar disso, ele imitou o grande pecado de Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que levou o povo de Israel a pecar.

Mas allegóse á los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar á Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.

Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

Messa, rei de Moabe, e seu povo eram criadores de ovelhas. Eles pagavam a Israel um imposto anual de cem mil cordeiros e lã de cem mil carneiros;

Entonces Mesa rey de Moab era propietario de ganados, y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y cien mil carneros con sus vellones.

And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he supplied the king of Israel with one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams.

porém, depois da morte de Acabe, o rei de Moabe se revoltou contra o rei de Israel, e não quis mais pagar o imposto.

But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

Então, naquela ocasião, Jorão, rei de Israel, diante dessa atitude, preparou o seu exército, que ficou de prontidão para lutar contra Moabe.

Y salió entonces de Samaria el rey Joram, é inspeccionó á todo Israel.

And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

Ele enviou esta mensagem para Josafá, rei de Judá: “Rei Josafá, o rei de Moabe se revoltou contra mim. Gostaria de saber se posso contar com o seu auxílio na guerra contra Moabe”. Josafá respondeu: “Conte comigo, rei Jorão. Os meus soldados e os meus cavalos estão às suas ordens; estaremos unidos na luta contra Moabe”.

Y fué y envió á decir á Josaphat rey de Judá: El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí: ¿irás tú conmigo á la guerra contra Moab? Y él respondió: Iré, porque como yo, así tú; como mi pueblo, así tu pueblo; como mis caballos, así también tus caballos.

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”

E perguntou: “Quais são os seus planos de guerra?” E Jorão respondeu: “Subiremos pelo caminho do deserto de Edom”.

Y dijo: ¿Por qué camino iremos? Y él respondió: Por el camino del desierto de Idumea.

And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?” Jehoram answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”

Então o rei de Israel partiu com os reis de Judá e de Edom. Depois de seguirem pelo deserto por sete dias, havia acabado a água, e não encontraram água para os seus soldados, nem para os seus animais.

Partieron pues el rey de Israel, y el rey de Judá, y el rey de Idumea; y como anduvieron rodeando por el desierto siete días de camino, faltóles el agua para el ejército, y para las bestias que los seguían.

So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.

So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.

“E agora, o que vamos fazer?”, exclamou o rei de Israel. “Será que o Senhor ajuntou a nós, os três reis, para cairmos nas mãos de Moabe?”

Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: ¡Ah! que ha llamado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.

And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

The king of Israel said, “Alas! For the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

Mas Josafá, rei de Judá, perguntou: “Não há um profeta do Senhor entre nós? Se houver, podemos consultá-lo, e ele falará em nome do Senhor e nos dirá o que devemos fazer”. Então um oficial do exército de Israel respondeu: “Eliseu, filho de Safate, está aqui. Ele era discípulo do profeta Elias”.

Mas Josaphat dijo: ¿No hay aquí profeta de Jehová, para que consultemos á Jehová por él? Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió y dijo: Aquí está Eliseo hijo de Saphat, que daba agua á manos á Elías.

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.

But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.”

Josafá respondeu: “A palavra do Senhor está com ele”. E o rei de Judá, o rei de Israel e o rei de Edom saíram para consultar Eliseu.

Y Josaphat dijo: Este tendrá palabra de Jehová. Y descendieron á él el rey de Israel, y Josaphat, y el rey de Idumea.

And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

Porém Eliseu falou com dureza ao rei Jorão de Israel: “Nada tenho a ver com você, rei de Israel; por que não vai consultar os falsos profetas que o seu pai e a sua mãe consultavam?” O rei de Israel, porém, respondeu: “Não. Porque o Senhor é que nos chamou aqui, três reis, para entregar-nos nas mãos dos moabitas!”

Entonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo? Ve á los profetas de tu padre, y á los profetas de tu madre. Y el rey de Israel le respondió: No: porque ha juntado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.

And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No, for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”

“Tão certo como vive o Senhor dos Exércitos, a quem sirvo, que se não fosse por respeito a Josafá, rei de Judá, aqui presente, garanto que não me incomodaria com você”, respondeu Eliseu.

Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que si no tuviese respeto al rostro de Josaphat rey de Judá, no mirara á ti, ni te viera.

And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.

Elisha said, “As the LORD of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.

“Mas agora chamem um músico para tocar uma música”. E enquanto o músico tocava a harpa, o poder do Senhor veio sobre Eliseu,

Mas ahora traedme un tañedor. Y mientras el tañedor tocaba, la mano de Jehová fué sobre Eliseo.

But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

But now bring me a musician.” When the musician played, the LORD’s hand came on him.

e ele disse: “Assim diz o Senhor: Cavem muitas e muitas cisternas neste vale.

Y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Haced en este valle muchas acequias.

And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

He said, “The LORD says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’

Pois assim diz o Senhor: Ninguém verá chuva nem vento, e mesmo assim este vale se encherá de água, e vocês, seus rebanhos e seus animais terão muita água para beber.

Porque Jehová ha dicho así: No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvia, y este valle será lleno de agua, y beberéis vosotros, y vuestras bestias, y vuestros ganados.

For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.

For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals.

Mas isto é pouco para o Senhor; ele também lhes dará a vitória sobre os moabitas!

Y esto es cosa ligera en los ojos de Jehová; dará también á los Moabitas en vuestras manos.

And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.

This is an easy thing in the LORD’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.

Além disso, vocês vão destruir as principais cidades de Moabe, mesmo as cidades fortificadas. Vocês destruirão com pedras as boas terras que eles têm, cortarão as boas árvores e taparão as fontes de água”.

Y vosotros heriréis á toda ciudad fortalecida y á toda villa hermosa, y talaréis todo buen árbol, y cegaréis todas las fuentes de aguas, y destruiréis con piedras toda tierra fértil.

And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.

You shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”

No dia seguinte, na hora em que se oferecia o sacrifício da manhã, a água veio descendo da direção de Edom e em poucos instantes havia água com fartura!

Y aconteció que por la mañana, cuando se ofrece el sacrificio, he aquí vinieron aguas por el camino de Idumea, y la tierra fué llena de aguas.

And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.

Enquanto isso, os moabitas souberam que os três reis vinham contra eles. Então o rei de Moabe convocou todos os homens que podiam lutar, tanto velhos como moços, e formou um exército que se posicionou na fronteira.

Y todos los de Moab, como oyeron que los reyes subían á pelear contra ellos, juntáronse desde todos los que ceñían talabarte arriba, y pusiéronse en la frontera.

And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

Mas bem cedinho, na manhã seguinte, o sol batia nas águas, e estas pareciam vermelhas como sangue.

Y como se levantaron por la mañana, y lució el sol sobre las aguas, vieron los de Moab desde lejos las aguas rojas como sangre;

And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

“Sangue! Sangue!”, gritaram os moabitas. “Os reis de Judá, de Israel e de Edom lutaram entre si, e mataram-se uns aos outros! É o sangue deles que corre pelos caminhos nesta direção! Vamos depressa saquear o que restou!”

Y dijeron: ¡Sangre es esta de espada! Los reyes se han revuelto, y cada uno ha muerto á su compañero. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, á la presa!

And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!”

Quando, porém, chegaram ao acampamento inimigo, o exército israelita se levantou e atacou com fúria os moabitas, e os fez fugir. Os israelitas perseguiram os moabitas, arrasaram o território,

Mas cuando llegaron al campo de Israel, levantáronse los Israelitas é hirieron á los de Moab, los cuales huyeron delante de ellos: siguieron empero hiriendo todavía á los de Moab.

And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

destruíram as cidades, encheram de pedras os campos, entupiram os poços e as fontes de água, derrubaram as árvores que davam frutas, e só não destruíram o forte de Quir-Haresete; mais tarde, porém, essa fortaleza foi cercada e conquistada pelos que atiravam com fundas.

Y asolaron las ciudades, y en todas las heredades fértiles echó cada uno su piedra, y las llenaron; cegaron también todas las fuentes de las aguas, y derribaron todos los buenos árboles; hasta que en Kir-hareseth solamente dejaron sus piedras; porque los honderos la cercaron, y la hirieron.

And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

Quando o rei de Moabe viu que a batalha estava perdida, reuniu setecentos dos seus homens armados de espadas e mandou atacar o rei de Edom. Mas de nada adiantou. Eles foram derrotados.

Y cuando el rey de Moab vió que la batalla lo vencía, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que sacaban espada, para romper contra el rey de Idumea: mas no pudieron.

And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

Então o rei de Moabe pegou o seu filho mais velho, o que mais tarde seria rei em seu lugar, e o ofereceu em sacrifício em cima do muro da cidade. Isso trouxe grande indignação contra Israel. Por isso retiraram-se dali e voltaram para a sua terra.
