And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.

Es de saber que Mesa, rey de Moab, criaba muchos ganados, y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y cien mil carneros con sus vellones.

Pero muerto Acab, rompió la alianza que tenía con el rey de Israel.

Por esta causa el rey Joram salió entonces de Samaria, y pasó revista de todo Israel.

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
Y añadió: ¿Qué camino tomaremos? A lo que le respondió Joram: El camino del desierto de Idumea.
Y dijo: ¿Por qué camino iremos? Y él respondió: Por el camino del desierto de Idumea.
And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.
Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?” Jehoram answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”
Marcharon, pues, el rey de Israel, el rey de Judá y el rey de Idumea, y anduvieron rodeando siete días de camino, y se hallaron sin agua para el ejército y para las bestias que llevaban detrás.
Partieron pues el rey de Israel, y el rey de Judá, y el rey de Idumea; y como anduvieron rodeando por el desierto siete días de camino, faltóles el agua para el ejército, y para las bestias que los seguían.
So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.
Dijo entonces el rey de Israel: ¡Ay, ay, ay de nosotros! El Señor nos ha juntado aquí tres reyes para entregarnos en poder de Moab.
Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: ¡Ah! que ha llamado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.
And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

Pero dijo Josafat: ¿No hay aquí algún profeta del Señor, para implorar por medio de él el socorro del Señor? A esto respondió uno de los criados del rey de Israel: Aquí está Eliseo, hijo de Safat, que daba aguamanos, o servía, a Elías.
Mas Josaphat dijo: ¿No hay aquí profeta de Jehová, para que consultemos á Jehová por él? Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió y dijo: Aquí está Eliseo hijo de Saphat, que daba agua á manos á Elías.
But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.”
Dijo Josafat: El Señor habla por su boca. Fueron, pues, a encontrarlo el rey de Israel, y Josafat, rey de Judá, y el rey de Idumea.
Y Josaphat dijo: Este tendrá palabra de Jehová. Y descendieron á él el rey de Israel, y Josaphat, y el rey de Idumea.
And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

Mas Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tienes tú que ver conmigo? Anda, ve a los profetas de tu padre y de tu madre. Le dijo el rey de Israel: ¿Por qué habrá juntado el Señor estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de Moab?
Entonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo? Ve á los profetas de tu padre, y á los profetas de tu madre. Y el rey de Israel le respondió: No: porque ha juntado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.
And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No, for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
Vive el Señor de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, respondió Eliseo, que si no respetara a Josafat, rey de Judá, no te hubiera atendido, ni aun siquiera mirándote la cara.
Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que si no tuviese respeto al rostro de Josaphat rey de Judá, no mirara á ti, ni te viera.
And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.
Elisha said, “As the LORD of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
Mas ahora traedme acá uno que taña el arpa. Y mientras éste cantaba al son del arpa, la virtud del Señor se hizo sentir sobre Eliseo, el cual dijo:
Mas ahora traedme un tañedor. Y mientras el tañedor tocaba, la mano de Jehová fué sobre Eliseo.
But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
But now bring me a musician.” When the musician played, the LORD’s hand came on him.
Esto dice el Señor: Cavad en la madre de este torrente, haciendo fosas y más fosas;
Y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Haced en este valle muchas acequias.
And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
He said, “The LORD says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’
pues el Señor dice así: No veréis viento, ni lluvia, y la madre de este torrente se henchirá de aguas, y beberéis vosotros, y vuestras tropas, y vuestras bestias.
Porque Jehová ha dicho así: No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvia, y este valle será lleno de agua, y beberéis vosotros, y vuestras bestias, y vuestros ganados.
For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals.
Y esto aun es lo de menos en los ojos del Señor; porque además entregará también a Moab en vuestras manos.
Y esto es cosa ligera en los ojos de Jehová; dará también á los Moabitas en vuestras manos.
And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
This is an easy thing in the LORD’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
Y destruiréis todas las plazas fuertes, y todas las ciudades principales, y cortaréis todos los árboles frutales, y cegaréis todos los manantiales de aguas, y sembraréis de piedras todos los campos más fértiles.
Y vosotros heriréis á toda ciudad fortalecida y á toda villa hermosa, y talaréis todo buen árbol, y cegaréis todas las fuentes de aguas, y destruiréis con piedras toda tierra fértil.
And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
You shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”
En efecto, llegada la mañana, al tiempo que suele ofrecerse el sacrificio, ya las aguas venían corriendo por el camino de Edom; y se inundó de agua todo aquel terreno.
Y aconteció que por la mañana, cuando se ofrece el sacrificio, he aquí vinieron aguas por el camino de Idumea, y la tierra fué llena de aguas.
And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
In the morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
Al mismo tiempo los moabitas todos a una, oyendo que aquellos reyes habían salido a campaña contra ellos, convocaron a todos los hombres aptos para la guerra, y vinieron a esperarlos en las fronteras.
Y todos los de Moab, como oyeron que los reyes subían á pelear contra ellos, juntáronse desde todos los que ceñían talabarte arriba, y pusiéronse en la frontera.
And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.

Y habiéndose levantado al apuntar el día, luego que los rayos del sol brillaron sobre las aguas, les parecieron éstas rojas como sangre.
Y como se levantaron por la mañana, y lució el sol sobre las aguas, vieron los de Moab desde lejos las aguas rojas como sangre;
And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:

Por lo cual dijeron: Sangre de batalla es; los reyes han peleado contra sí, y se han acuchillado unos a otros; corre ahora, oh Moab, a recoger la presa.
Y dijeron: ¡Sangre es esta de espada! Los reyes se han revuelto, y cada uno ha muerto á su compañero. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, á la presa!
And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!”
En efecto, corrieron al campamento de Israel; mas los israelitas, puestos sobre las armas, dieron contra los moabitas, y los pusieron en fuga. Con esto fueron tras ellos los vencedores, y destrozaron a Moab;
Mas cuando llegaron al campo de Israel, levantáronse los Israelitas é hirieron á los de Moab, los cuales huyeron delante de ellos: siguieron empero hiriendo todavía á los de Moab.
And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

destruyeron sus ciudades; llenaron de piedras, que cada uno echaba, los campos más fértiles; cegaron todos los manantiales de las aguas, y cortaron todos los árboles frutales; de suerte que solamente quedaron los muros de ladrillos o el castillo; mas la ciudad fue cercada por los honderos, y en gran parte derribada.
Y asolaron las ciudades, y en todas las heredades fértiles echó cada uno su piedra, y las llenaron; cegaron también todas las fuentes de las aguas, y derribaron todos los buenos árboles; hasta que en Kir-hareseth solamente dejaron sus piedras; porque los honderos la cercaron, y la hirieron.
And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.

Habiendo visto, pues, el rey de Moab que los enemigos prevalecían, tomó consigo setecientos hombres valerosos con espada en mano, para forzar el campo del rey de Idumea, y escaparse: pero no pudo lograr su intento.
Y cuando el rey de Moab vió que la batalla lo vencía, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que sacaban espada, para romper contra el rey de Idumea: mas no pudieron.
And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.

Y arrebatando a su hijo primogénito, que debía sucederle en el reino, lo ofreció en holocausto sobre la muralla; cosa que causó gran horror a los israelitas, y así al punto se retiraron de allí volviendo a sus casas.
Entonces arrebató á su primogénito que había de reinar en su lugar, y sacrificóle en holocausto sobre el muro. Y hubo grande enojo en Israel; y retiráronse de él, y volviéronse á su tierra.
Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
