1Joram, hijo de Acab, se convirtió en rey de Israel en el año dieciocho del reinado de Josafat de Judá. Reinó en Samaria durante doce años.
2Sus hechos fueron malos a los ojos del Señor, pero no como los de su padre y su madre, pues se deshizo de la imagen de piedra de Baal que había hecho su padre.
3Sin embargo, aún se aferró a los pecados que Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, había hecho cometer a Israel; no los abandonó.
4Mesha, rey de Moab, era criador de ovejas. Solía dar un tributo al rey de Israel de cien mil corderos y la lana de cien mil carneros.
5Pero después de la muerte de Acab, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.
6Inmediatamente el rey Joram convocó a todo el ejército israelita y salió de Samaria.
7En su camino envió un mensaje a Josafat, rey de Judá, diciendo: “El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí. ¿Te unirás a mí para atacar a Moab?” Josafat respondió: “Sí, me uniré a ti. Tú y yo somos como uno, mis hombres y tus hombres son como uno, y mis caballos y tus caballos son como uno”.
8Entonces preguntó: “¿Por qué camino iremos?” “Tomaremos el camino que atraviesa el desierto de Edom”, respondió.
9Así que el rey de Israel, el rey de Judá y el rey de Edom se pusieron en marcha. Después de seguir una ruta indirecta durante siete días, se quedaron sin agua para su ejército y para sus animales.
10“¿Qué estamos haciendo?” , se quejó el rey de Israel. “¡El Señor nos ha traído aquí a tres reyes para entregarnos a los moabitas!”.
11Pero Josafat preguntó: “¿No hay aquí con nosotros un profeta del Señor? Consultemos al Señor por medio de él”. Uno de los oficiales del rey de Israel respondió: “Eliseo, hijo de Safat, está aquí. Era el ayudante de Elías”.
12Josafat aceptó: “El Señor se comunica por medio de él”. Así que el rey de Israel, Josafat y el rey de Edom fueron a verlo.
13Eliseo le dijo al rey de Israel: “¿Qué tengo que ver contigo? Ve con tus propios profetas, los de tu padre y tu madre”. Pero el rey de Israel le dijo: “¡No, porque es el Señor quien ha traído aquí a estos tres reyes para entregarlos a los moabitas!”
14Eliseo respondió: “Vive el Señor Todopoderoso, a quien sirvo, si no respetara el hecho de que Josafat, rey de Judá, está aquí, ni siquiera miraría en tu dirección ni te reconocería.
15Ahora tráeme un músico”. Mientras el músico tocaba, el poder del Señor cayó sobre Eliseo,
16y anunció: “Esto es lo que dice el Señor: Este valle se llenará de estanques de agua. Porque el Señor dice:
17No verás viento, no verás lluvia, pero aun así este valle se llenará de agua. Beberás tú, y tu ganado, y tus animales.
18El Señor considera que esto es algo trivial, y también te hará victorioso sobre los moabitas.
19Conquistarás toda ciudad fortificada y toda ciudad importante. Cortarás todos los árboles buenos, bloquearás todos los manantiales y arruinarás todos los campos buenos arrojando piedras sobre ellos”.
20Al día siguiente, alrededor de la hora del sacrificio matutino, el agua fluyó repentinamente desde la dirección de Edom, llenando de agua todo el campo.
21Todos los moabitas habían oído que los reyes habían venido a atacarlos. Así que todos los que podían llevar una espada, jóvenes y viejos, fueron llamados y fueron a vigilar la frontera.
22Pero a la mañana siguiente, cuando se levantaron, el sol brillaba sobre el agua, y a los moabitas del otro lado les pareció roja como la sangre.
23“¡Esto es sangre!”, dijeron. “¡Los reyes y sus ejércitos deben haberse atacado y matado! Moabitas, vamos a coger el botín”.
24Pero cuando los moabitas llegaron al campamento israelita, los israelitas salieron corriendo y los atacaron, y ellos huyeron de ellos. Entonces los israelitas invadieron su país y mataron a los moabitas.
25Destruyeron las ciudades, y cada soldado arrojó piedras sobre todo campo bueno hasta cubrirlo. Bloquearon todos los manantiales y cortaron todos los árboles buenos. Sólo Quir Jaréset conservaba sus murallas, pero los soldados, usando hondas, la rodearon y la atacaron también.
26Cuando el rey de Moab se dio cuenta de que había perdido la batalla, dirigió a setecientos espadachines para intentar abrirse paso y atacar al rey de Edom, pero no pudieron hacerlo.
27Entonces el rey de Moab tomó a su hijo primogénito, que estaba destinado a sucederlo, y lo sacrificó como holocausto en el muro de la ciudad. Un gran enojo se apoderó de los israelitas, así que se fueron y regresaron a su país.

1Y JORAM hijo de Achâb comenzó á reinar en Samaria sobre Israel el año dieciocho de Josaphat rey de Judá; y reinó doce años.
2E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, aunque no como su padre y su madre; porque quitó las estatuas de Baal que su padre había hecho.
3Mas allegóse á los pecados de Jeroboam, hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar á Israel; y no se apartó de ellos.
4Entonces Mesa rey de Moab era propietario de ganados, y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y cien mil carneros con sus vellones.
5Mas muerto Achâb, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.
6Y salió entonces de Samaria el rey Joram, é inspeccionó á todo Israel.
7Y fué y envió á decir á Josaphat rey de Judá: El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí: ¿irás tú conmigo á la guerra contra Moab? Y él respondió: Iré, porque como yo, así tú; como mi pueblo, así tu pueblo; como mis caballos, así también tus caballos.
8Y dijo: ¿Por qué camino iremos? Y él respondió: Por el camino del desierto de Idumea.
9Partieron pues el rey de Israel, y el rey de Judá, y el rey de Idumea; y como anduvieron rodeando por el desierto siete días de camino, faltóles el agua para el ejército, y para las bestias que los seguían.
10Entonces el rey de Israel dijo: ¡Ah! que ha llamado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.
11Mas Josaphat dijo: ¿No hay aquí profeta de Jehová, para que consultemos á Jehová por él? Y uno de los siervos del rey de Israel respondió y dijo: Aquí está Eliseo hijo de Saphat, que daba agua á manos á Elías.
12Y Josaphat dijo: Este tendrá palabra de Jehová. Y descendieron á él el rey de Israel, y Josaphat, y el rey de Idumea.
13Entonces Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo? Ve á los profetas de tu padre, y á los profetas de tu madre. Y el rey de Israel le respondió: No: porque ha juntado Jehová estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los Moabitas.
14Y Eliseo dijo: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy, que si no tuviese respeto al rostro de Josaphat rey de Judá, no mirara á ti, ni te viera.
15Mas ahora traedme un tañedor. Y mientras el tañedor tocaba, la mano de Jehová fué sobre Eliseo.
16Y dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová: Haced en este valle muchas acequias.
17Porque Jehová ha dicho así: No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvia, y este valle será lleno de agua, y beberéis vosotros, y vuestras bestias, y vuestros ganados.
18Y esto es cosa ligera en los ojos de Jehová; dará también á los Moabitas en vuestras manos.
19Y vosotros heriréis á toda ciudad fortalecida y á toda villa hermosa, y talaréis todo buen árbol, y cegaréis todas las fuentes de aguas, y destruiréis con piedras toda tierra fértil.
20Y aconteció que por la mañana, cuando se ofrece el sacrificio, he aquí vinieron aguas por el camino de Idumea, y la tierra fué llena de aguas.
21Y todos los de Moab, como oyeron que los reyes subían á pelear contra ellos, juntáronse desde todos los que ceñían talabarte arriba, y pusiéronse en la frontera.
22Y como se levantaron por la mañana, y lució el sol sobre las aguas, vieron los de Moab desde lejos las aguas rojas como sangre;
23Y dijeron: ¡Sangre es esta de espada! Los reyes se han revuelto, y cada uno ha muerto á su compañero. Ahora pues, ¡Moab, á la presa!
24Mas cuando llegaron al campo de Israel, levantáronse los Israelitas é hirieron á los de Moab, los cuales huyeron delante de ellos: siguieron empero hiriendo todavía á los de Moab.
25Y asolaron las ciudades, y en todas las heredades fértiles echó cada uno su piedra, y las llenaron; cegaron también todas las fuentes de las aguas, y derribaron todos los buenos árboles; hasta que en Kir-hareseth solamente dejaron sus piedras; porque los honderos la cercaron, y la hirieron.
26Y cuando el rey de Moab vió que la batalla lo vencía, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que sacaban espada, para romper contra el rey de Idumea: mas no pudieron.
27Entonces arrebató á su primogénito que había de reinar en su lugar, y sacrificóle en holocausto sobre el muro. Y hubo grande enojo en Israel; y retiráronse de él, y volviéronse á su tierra.

1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
2And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.
3Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.
4And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.
5But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.
7And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.
8And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.
9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
10And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!
11But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
12And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
14And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.
15But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
16And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
17For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
18And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
19And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
20And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
21And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
22And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
23And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
24And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
25And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kir-haraseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.
26And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.
27Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.

1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
2He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, but not like his father and like his mother, for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
3Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. He didn’t depart from them.
4Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he supplied the king of Israel with one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams.
5But when Ahab was dead, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
7He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?” He said, “I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.”
8Then he said, “Which way shall we go up?” Jehoram answered, “The way of the wilderness of Edom.”
9So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched for seven days along a circuitous route. There was no water for the army or for the animals that followed them.
10The king of Israel said, “Alas! For the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
11But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?” One of the king of Israel’s servants answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah, is here.”
12Jehoshaphat said, “The LORD’s word is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13Elisha said to the king of Israel, “What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother.” The king of Israel said to him, “No, for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
14Elisha said, “As the LORD of Armies lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
15But now bring me a musician.” When the musician played, the LORD’s hand came on him.
16He said, “The LORD says, ‘Make this valley full of trenches.’
17For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind, neither will you see rain, yet that valley will be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your other animals.
18This is an easy thing in the LORD’s sight. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
19You shall strike every fortified city and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.’”
20In the morning, about the time of offering the sacrifice, behold, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
21Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, young and old, and stood on the border.
22They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water opposite them as red as blood.
23They said, “This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the plunder!”
24When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land attacking the Moabites.
25They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land each man cast his stone, and filled it. They also stopped all the springs of water and cut down all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth all they left was its stones; however the men armed with slings went around it and attacked it.
26When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew a sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
27Then he took his oldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel; and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
