El rey de Siria sentía mucha admiración por Naamán, comandante en jefe de su ejército, porque había conducido a sus soldados a muchas victorias gloriosas. Era un gran héroe, pero estaba leproso.
NAAMÁN, general del ejército del rey de Siria, era gran varón delante de su señor, y en alta estima, porque por medio de él había dado Jehová salvamento á la Siria. Era este hombre valeroso en extremo, pero leproso.
Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

Los sirios habían invadido a Israel en varias ocasiones y habían llevado muchos cautivos, entre los cuales había una niña que había sido dada como esclava a la esposa de Naamán.
Y de Siria habían salido cuadrillas, y habían llevado cautiva de la tierra de Israel una muchacha; la cual sirviendo á la mujer de Naamán,
And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

Un día la niña le dijo a su ama: «Me gustaría que mi amo fuera a ver al profeta que vive en Samaria. Estoy segura de que él lo puede sanar de la lepra».
Dijo á su señora: Si rogase mi señor al profeta que está en Samaria, él lo sanaría de su lepra.
And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

Naamán le contó al rey lo que la niña había dicho.
Y entrando Naamán á su señor, declaróselo, diciendo: Así y así ha dicho una muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel.
And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

―Ve y visita al profeta —le dijo el rey—. Yo te daré una carta de presentación para que se la entregues al rey de Israel. Naamán emprendió la marcha. Llevaba consigo regalos: treinta mil monedas de plata, seis mil monedas de oro y diez mudas de ropa.
Y díjole el rey de Siria: Anda, ve, y yo enviaré letras al rey de Israel. Partió pues él, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, y seis mil piezas de oro, y diez mudas de vestidos.
And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

La carta dirigida al rey de Israel decía: «El hombre que lleva esta carta es mi siervo Naamán. Quiero que lo sanes de la lepra».
Tomó también letras para el rey de Israel, que decían así: Luego en llegando á ti estas letras, sabe por ellas que yo envío á ti mi siervo Naamán, para que lo sanes de su lepra.
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

Cuando el rey de Israel leyó la carta, rasgó su ropa, y dijo: «¡Este hombre me manda a un leproso para que lo sane! ¿Acaso soy Dios, para matar y dar la vida? ¡Ese rey solo está buscando un pretexto para invadirnos nuevamente!».
Y luego que el rey de Israel leyó las cartas, rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¿Soy yo Dios, que mate y dé vida, para que éste envíe á mí á que sane un hombre de su lepra? Considerad ahora, y ved cómo busca ocasión contra mí.
And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
When the king of Israel had read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.”
Pero cuando el profeta Eliseo oyó lo que le ocurría al rey de Israel, le envió este mensaje: «¿Por qué estás tan confundido? Envíame a Naamán, y él sabrá que hay profeta de Dios en Israel».
Y como Eliseo, varón de Dios oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió á decir al rey: ¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Venga ahora á mí, y sabrá que hay profeta en Israel.
And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

Naamán llegó con sus caballos y carros, y se paró a la puerta de la casa de Eliseo.

Entonces el profeta le mandó a decir que fuera a lavarse siete veces en el río Jordán, y que así sanaría de su lepra.

Pero Naamán se enojó, y se fue. «¿Qué les parece? —dijo—. Yo pensaba que, por lo menos, el profeta saldría y me hablaría. Pensé que levantaría la mano sobre la lepra, invocaría el nombre del Señor su Dios, y me sanaría.
Y Naamán se fué enojado, diciendo: He aquí yo decía para mí: Saldrá él luego, y estando en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová su Dios, y alzará su mano, y tocará el lugar, y sanará la lepra.
But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
But Naaman was angry, and went away and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’
Los ríos Abaná y Farfar, de Damasco, son mucho mejores que todos los ríos de Israel juntos. Si de ríos se trata, yo me lavaré en ellos y me libraré de mi lepra». Se marchó furioso.

Pero sus criados le dijeron: «Si el profeta le hubiera pedido que hiciera algo extraordinario, ¿no lo habría hecho? Debiera obedecerle, pues lo único que le ha dicho es que vaya y se lave, para que quede sano».
Mas sus criados se llegaron á él, y habláronle, diciendo: Padre mío, si el profeta te mandara alguna gran cosa, ¿no la hicieras? ¿cuánto más, diciéndote: Lávate, y serás limpio?
And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

Entonces Naamán fue al río Jordán, se sumergió siete veces, como el profeta le había dicho, y su carne quedó tan sana como la de un niño.
El entonces descendió, y zambullóse siete veces en el Jordán, conforme á la palabra del varón de Dios: y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y fué limpio.

Inmediatamente él y toda su compañía volvieron a buscar al profeta. Parado humildemente ante él, Naamán le dijo: ―Ahora sé que no hay Dios en todo el mundo, sino el de Israel. Te ruego que aceptes un regalo.
Y volvió al varón de Dios, él y toda su compañía, y púsose delante de él, y dijo: He aquí ahora conozco que no hay Dios en toda la tierra, sino en Israel. Ruégote que recibas algún presente de tu siervo.
And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

Pero Eliseo respondió: ―Juro por el Señor mi Dios que no lo aceptaré. Naamán insistió en que lo aceptara, pero Eliseo se negó rotundamente.
Mas él dijo: Vive Jehová, delante del cual estoy, que no lo tomaré. E importunándole que tomase, él nunca quiso.
But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

―Bien —dijo Naamán—, muy bien. Pero dame dos cargas de tierra para llevar conmigo, porque de ahora en adelante no volveré a ofrecer sacrificios ni holocaustos a otros dioses, sino al Señor.
Entonces Naamán dijo: Ruégote pues, ¿no se dará á tu siervo una carga de un par de acémilas de aquesta tierra? porque de aquí adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni sacrificio á otros dioses, sino á Jehová.
And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ load of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD.
Claro que cuando mi amo, el rey, entre en el santuario del dios Rimón y se apoye sobre mi brazo, el Señor habrá de perdonarme que yo me incline también.
En esto perdone Jehová á tu siervo: que cuando mi señor entrare en el templo de Rimmón, y para adorar en él se apoyare sobre mi mano, si yo también me inclinare en el templo de Rimmón, si en el templo de Rimmón me inclino, Jehová perdone en esto á tu siervo.
In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.
In this thing may the LORD pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may the LORD pardon your servant in this thing.”
―Ve en paz —le dijo Eliseo. Entonces Naamán emprendió el regreso.
Y él le dijo: Vete en paz. Partióse pues de él, y caminó como el espacio de una milla.

Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo el varón de Dios, dijo entre sí: He aquí mi señor estorbó á este Siro Naamán, no tomando de su mano las cosas que había traído. Vive Jehová, que correré yo tras él, y tomaré de él alguna cosa.
But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.”
Cuando Naamán vio que Guiezi lo seguía, se bajó del carro y corrió a encontrarlo. ―¿Está todo bien? —preguntó.
Y siguió Giezi á Naamán: y como le vió Naamán que venía corriendo tras él, apeóse del carro para recibirle, y dijo: ¿Va bien?
So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?

―Sí —dijo—, pero mi amo me ha enviado a decirte que dos jóvenes del monte de Efraín acaban de llegar, y le gustaría tener tres mil monedas de plata y dos mudas de ropa para ellos.
Y él dijo: Bien. Mi señor me envía á decir: He aquí vinieron á mí en esta hora del monte de Ephraim dos mancebos de los hijos de los profetas: ruégote que les des un talento de plata, y sendas mudas de vestidos.
And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.

―Lleva seis mil monedas —insistió Naamán. Así que Naamán le entregó a Guiezi dos mudas de ropa muy preciosa y el dinero en dos bolsas, y envió a dos siervos para que ayudaran a Guiezi.
Y Naamán dijo: Ruégote que tomes dos talentos. Y él le constriñó, y ató dos talentos de plata en dos sacos, y dos mudas de vestidos, y púsolo á cuestas á dos de sus criados, que lo llevasen delante de él.
And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.

Pero cuando llegaron al monte donde Eliseo vivía, Guiezi tomó las bolsas que llevaban los dos siervos de Naamán, y los envió de regreso. Luego escondió el dinero en la casa.
Y llegado que hubo á un lugar secreto, él lo tomó de mano de ellos, y guardólo en casa: luego mandó á los hombres que se fuesen.
And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.

Cuando entró a ver a su amo, Eliseo le preguntó: ―¿Dónde has estado Guiezi? ―En ninguna parte —respondió.

Pero Eliseo le dijo: ―¿No comprendes que, con mi pensamiento, yo te estaba acompañando cuando Naamán descendió de su carro para encontrarse contigo? ¿Es tiempo de recibir dinero, ropa, olivares, viñedos, ovejas, bueyes y criados?
El entonces le dijo: ¿No fué también mi corazón, cuando el hombre volvió de su carro á recibirte? ¿es tiempo de tomar plata, y de tomar vestidos, olivares, viñas, ovejas, bueyes, siervos y siervas?
And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

Por cuanto has hecho esto, la lepra de Naamán se te pasará a ti, a tus hijos, y a los hijos de tus hijos para siempre. Tan pronto dejó a Eliseo, la piel de Guiezi se volvió completamente blanca, debido a la lepra.
La lepra de Naamán se te pegará á ti, y á tu simiente para siempre. Y salió de delante de él leproso, blanco como la nieve.
The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your offspring forever.” He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.
