Naamã, comandante do exército do rei da Síria, era muito estimado e respeitado pelo seu senhor, pois, graças a ele, o Senhor dera vitória à Síria. Ele era um herói valente. Porém ele era leproso.
NAAMÁN, general del ejército del rey de Siria, era gran varón delante de su señor, y en alta estima, porque por medio de él había dado Jehová salvamento á la Siria. Era este hombre valeroso en extremo, pero leproso.
Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

Numa ocasião, as tropas da Síria invadiram a terra de Israel e trouxeram de lá muitos prisioneiros. No meio deles, havia uma menina que foi levada para a casa de Naamã para ser empregada de sua mulher.

Um dia a menina disse à sua patroa: “Senhora, se o meu senhor procurasse o profeta que mora em Samaria, tenho certeza de que ele o curaria da lepra!”

And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.

Naamã contou ao rei, seu senhor, as palavras da menina israelita.
Y entrando Naamán á su señor, declaróselo, diciendo: Así y así ha dicho una muchacha que es de la tierra de Israel.
And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.

O rei disse a Naamã: “Vá. Eu darei a você uma carta de apresentação ao rei de Israel”. E assim Naamã partiu, levando a carta e trezentos e cinquenta quilos de prata, setenta e dois quilos de ouro e dez vestimentas de festa.
Y díjole el rey de Siria: Anda, ve, y yo enviaré letras al rey de Israel. Partió pues él, llevando consigo diez talentos de plata, y seis mil piezas de oro, y diez mudas de vestidos.
And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.

Ao chegar lá, entregou a carta ao rei de Israel. A carta dizia: “O portador desta carta é meu servo Naamã, que é oficial; ele é leproso, e foi até aí para ser curado”.
Tomó también letras para el rey de Israel, que decían así: Luego en llegando á ti estas letras, sabe por ellas que yo envío á ti mi siervo Naamán, para que lo sanes de su lepra.
And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.

Quando o rei de Israel terminou a leitura da carta, rasgou as suas roupas. E disse em voz alta: “O rei da Síria me mandou este homem para que eu o cure da lepra! Por acaso sou Deus, com poder de dar ou tirar a vida de alguém? Por que este homem procura um motivo para nos atacar?”
Y luego que el rey de Israel leyó las cartas, rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¿Soy yo Dios, que mate y dé vida, para que éste envíe á mí á que sane un hombre de su lepra? Considerad ahora, y ved cómo busca ocasión contra mí.
And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.

Quando Eliseu, o homem de Deus, soube que o rei de Israel tinha rasgado as suas roupas e não sabia como atender à carta do rei da Síria, mandou um mensageiro com esta mensagem: “Ó rei, não é preciso toda essa aflição. Mande este homem me procurar e ele ficará sabendo que em Israel há um profeta de Deus!”
Y como Eliseo, varón de Dios oyó que el rey de Israel había rasgado sus vestidos, envió á decir al rey: ¿Por qué has rasgado tus vestidos? Venga ahora á mí, y sabrá que hay profeta en Israel.

Mas Naamã não acreditou nessas palavras; pelo contrário, ficou indignado, e falou com os que ali estavam: “Vejam só! Mandar que eu me lave no rio Jordão! Eu esperava que ele viesse falar comigo; que moveria as mãos sobre o lugar afetado pela lepra, e oraria em nome do Senhor, o seu Deus, e ordenaria que a doença saísse do meu corpo!
Y Naamán se fué enojado, diciendo: He aquí yo decía para mí: Saldrá él luego, y estando en pie invocará el nombre de Jehová su Dios, y alzará su mano, y tocará el lugar, y sanará la lepra.
But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.

Mas não! Não são os rios Abana e Farfar, em Damasco, muito melhores do que todos os rios de Israel? Se é de água de rios que eu preciso para ser purificado, eu voltarei para minha terra e me tratarei lá”. E foi embora, revoltado.

Mas os seus oficiais tentaram fazer Naamã mudar de ideia e lhe disseram: “Senhor, se o profeta mandasse fazer alguma coisa difícil para curar a sua lepra, o senhor não faria imediatamente? Por que o senhor não pode apenas ir e lavar-se, como ele disse, e ser purificado?”

And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?

Então Naamã concordou em obedecer às palavras do profeta. Foi até o rio Jordão e mergulhou nas águas sete vezes conforme as palavras do homem de Deus e foi purificado; depois do sétimo mergulho, viu que a pele do seu corpo estava completamente limpa, sem nenhum sinal de lepra, como de uma criança!
El entonces descendió, y zambullóse siete veces en el Jordán, conforme á la palabra del varón de Dios: y su carne se volvió como la carne de un niño, y fué limpio.

Naamã disse então: “Já que não aceita um presente, ao menos deixa-me levar de volta duas das minhas mulas carregadas com a terra daqui, pois de agora em diante o seu servo nunca mais oferecerá sacrifícios queimados a outro deus, a não ser ao Senhor.
Entonces Naamán dijo: Ruégote pues, ¿no se dará á tu siervo una carga de un par de acémilas de aquesta tierra? porque de aquí adelante tu siervo no sacrificará holocausto ni sacrificio á otros dioses, sino á Jehová.
And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ load of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to the LORD.
Há, porém, uma coisa que preciso explicar: Quando o rei, meu senhor, apoiado em meu braço, entrar no templo do deus Rimom para o seu culto de adoração, e eu também tiver de me curvar, que o Senhor perdoe o seu servo por isso”.
En esto perdone Jehová á tu siervo: que cuando mi señor entrare en el templo de Rimmón, y para adorar en él se apoyare sobre mi mano, si yo también me inclinare en el templo de Rimmón, si en el templo de Rimmón me inclino, Jehová perdone en esto á tu siervo.
In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

“Vá em paz”, disse Eliseu. E Naamã começou a sua viagem de volta para casa.

Mas Geazi, o servo de Eliseu, pensou: “Meu senhor, o profeta, não devia deixar ir embora esse sírio Naamã, depois de tê-lo curado, sem receber alguma coisa em troca! Juro pelo nome do Senhor que correrei atrás dele e pedirei alguma coisa por minha própria conta”.
Entonces Giezi, criado de Eliseo el varón de Dios, dijo entre sí: He aquí mi señor estorbó á este Siro Naamán, no tomando de su mano las cosas que había traído. Vive Jehová, que correré yo tras él, y tomaré de él alguna cosa.
But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master hath spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD liveth, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.”
E Geazi correu para alcançar Naamã e sua comitiva. Quando Naamã, ao olhar para trás, reconheceu o moço, servo do profeta, parou o seu carro, saltou dele e foi ao encontro dele. “Está tudo bem?”, perguntou Naamã.

Geazi respondeu: “Sim, tudo vai bem. Mas o meu senhor enviou-me para dizer-lhe que acabaram de chegar dois jovens, discípulos dos profetas das colinas de Efraim. Por favor, dê-lhes trinta e cinco quilos de prata e duas vestimentas de festas”.
Y él dijo: Bien. Mi señor me envía á decir: He aquí vinieron á mí en esta hora del monte de Ephraim dos mancebos de los hijos de los profetas: ruégote que les des un talento de plata, y sendas mudas de vestidos.
And he said, All is well. My master hath sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.
He said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’”
“Certamente”, falou Naamã, “faço questão de que você leve setenta quilos de prata, em vez de trinta e cinco”. Ele insistiu com Geazi para que aceitasse o presente e entregou os setenta quilos de prata em duas sacolas, além das duas vestes a dois dos seus servos, para que voltassem com Geazi e entregassem tudo ao profeta.
Y Naamán dijo: Ruégote que tomes dos talentos. Y él le constriñó, y ató dos talentos de plata en dos sacos, y dos mudas de vestidos, y púsolo á cuestas á dos de sus criados, que lo llevasen delante de él.

Mas quando Geazi chegou ao pé da colina onde morava, ele disse aos empregados de Naamã: “Daqui vocês podem voltar; eu mesmo levo os presentes”. Os empregados voltaram, e Geazi guardou os presentes em sua casa.

Depois disso, apresentou-se ao seu senhor. Eliseu perguntou: “Geazi, onde você esteve? De onde você vem chegando?” Geazi respondeu: “O seu servo não esteve em parte alguma”.

Mas Eliseu continuou: “Geazi, você não percebe que em espírito estive com você quando Naamã desceu do carro e foi ao seu encontro? Eu sei de tudo o que você fez. Este não era o momento de aceitar prata nem roupas, nem plantações de oliveiras e de uvas, ovelhas, gado, servos e servas.

Por causa do que você fez, a lepra de Naamã passará para o seu corpo e para o corpo dos seus descendentes para sempre”. E quando Geazi saiu dali, viu que seu corpo estava coberto de lepra; sua pele se tornou branca como a neve.
La lepra de Naamán se te pegará á ti, y á tu simiente para siempre. Y salió de delante de él leproso, blanco como la nieve.
The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
