LOS hijos de los profetas dijeron á Eliseo: He aquí, el lugar en que moramos contigo nos es estrecho.
And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

Que acha de irmos até o rio Jordão onde poderemos cortar troncos para construirmos acomodações maiores?” “Está bem”, respondeu Eliseu “Podem ir”.
Vamos ahora al Jordán, y tomemos de allí cada uno una viga, y hagámonos allí lugar en que habitemos. Y él dijo: Andad.
Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
But as one was cutting down a tree, the ax head fell into the water. Then he cried out and said, “Alas, my master! For it was borrowed.”
“Onde ele caiu?”, perguntou o homem de Deus. Mostraram-lhe o lugar. Então Eliseu cortou uma vara e a jogou na água, no lugar onde o machado havia afundado. E o ferro veio à superfície da água!
Y el varón de Dios dijo: ¿Dónde cayó? Y él le mostró el lugar. Entonces cortó él un palo, y echólo allí; é hizo nadar el hierro.
And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” He showed him the place. He cut down a stick, threw it in there, and made the iron float.
“Apanhe-o”, disse o profeta. E o jovem estendeu a mão e o pegou.

O rei da Síria estava em guerra contra Israel. Ele reuniu-se com os seus oficiais e comandantes e disse: “Montarei o meu acampamento em tal lugar”.
Tenía el rey de Siria guerra contra Israel, y consultando con sus siervos, dijo: En tal y tal lugar estará mi campamento.
Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
Now the king of Syria was at war against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.”
Imediatamente o homem de Deus mandou uma mensagem ao rei de Israel: “Não passe em tal lugar, pois os sírios estão descendo para lá”.
Y el varón de Dios envió á decir al rey de Israel: Mira que no pases por tal lugar, porque los Siros van allí.
And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
The man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.”
O rei de Israel mandou soldados para investigar se realmente as tropas do rei da Síria estavam no lugar que o homem de Deus havia indicado. E viram que era verdade. Com isso eles se livraram de uma derrota. E isso aconteceu diversas vezes.
Entonces el rey de Israel envió á aquel lugar que el varón de Dios había dicho y amonestádole; y guardóse de allí, no una vez ni dos.

O rei da Síria ficou enfurecido e convocou seus conselheiros e perguntou: “Como é que o exército de Israel descobre o lugar do nosso acampamento? Qual de vocês é o traidor? Quem esteve informando o rei de Israel sobre os meus planos?”
Y el corazón del rey de Siria fué turbado de esto; y llamando á sus siervos, díjoles: ¿No me declararéis vosotros quién de los nuestros es del rey de Israel?
Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?
The king of Syria’s heart was very troubled about this. He called his servants, and said to them, “Won’t you show me which of us is for the king of Israel?”
“Não somos nós, senhor!”, respondeu um dos oficiais. “Eliseu, o profeta de Israel, é quem descobre os seus planos e conta tudo ao rei de Israel, até as palavras ditas em segredo no seu quarto!”
Entonces uno de los siervos dijo: No, rey señor mío; sino que el profeta Eliseo está en Israel, el cual declara al rey de Israel las palabras que tú hablas en tu más secreta cámara.
And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.
One of his servants said, “No, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.”
Então o rei ordenou: “Vão descobrir onde ele está, e mandaremos soldados para capturá-lo”. A informação que o rei recebeu foi esta: “Eliseu está em Dotã”.
Y él dijo: Id, y mirad dónde está, para que yo envíe á tomarlo. Y fuéle dicho: He aquí él está en Dothán.
And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

Então, uma noite, o rei da Síria mandou um grande exército, com muitos carros e cavalos, para cercar a cidade de Dotã.
Entonces envió el rey allá gente de á caballo, y carros, y un grande ejército, los cuales vinieron de noche, y cercaron la ciudad.
Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.

Quando o servo do homem de Deus se levantou bem cedo, pela manhã, viu que estavam cercados pelas tropas, carros e cavalos. “Ai, meu senhor! O que faremos agora?”, exclamou o servo a Eliseu.
Y levantándose de mañana el que servía al varón de Dios, para salir, he aquí el ejército que tenía cercada la ciudad, con gente de á caballo y carros. Entonces su criado le dijo: ¡Ah, señor mío! ¿qué haremos?
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
When the servant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was around the city. His servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
“Não tenha medo”, disse Eliseu. “Aqueles que estão conosco são muito maiores e muito mais fortes do que eles”.
Y él le dijo: No hayas miedo: porque más son los que están con nosotros que los que están con ellos.
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
He answered, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Então Eliseu orou: “Ó Senhor! Abra os olhos do meu ajudante para que ele veja!” E Deus abriu os olhos do jovem, e ele viu as colinas cobertas de cavalos e carros de fogo ao redor de Eliseu!
Y oró Eliseo, y dijo: Ruégote, oh Jehová, que abras sus ojos para que vea. Entonces Jehová abrió los ojos del mozo, y miró: y he aquí que el monte estaba lleno de gente de á caballo, y de carros de fuego alrededor de Eliseo.
And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
Elisha prayed, and said, “LORD, please open his eyes, that he may see.” the LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
Enquanto os soldados sírios avançavam contra a cidade, Eliseu orou ao Senhor: “Faça com que esses homens fiquem cegos!” Deus, o Senhor, respondeu à oração de Eliseu e fez com que os sírios ficassem cegos.
Y luego que los Siros descendieron á él, oró Eliseo á Jehová, y dijo: Ruégote que hieras á esta gente con ceguedad. E hiriólos con ceguedad, conforme al dicho de Eliseo.
And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

Então Eliseu foi ao encontro dos soldados inimigos e lhes disse: “Prestem atenção! Vocês tomaram o caminho errado; e nem é esta a cidade que vocês procuram. Venham comigo e eu levarei vocês ao homem que estão procurando”. E Eliseu guiou as tropas inimigas até a cidade de Samaria!
Después les dijo Eliseo: No es este el camino, ni es esta la ciudad; seguidme, que yo os guiaré al hombre que buscáis. Y guiólos á Samaria.
And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria.

Assim que chegaram a Samaria, Eliseu orou: “Ó Senhor, abra agora os olhos de todos os soldados inimigos para que eles possam ver”. Então o Senhor abriu os olhos de todos, e eles descobriram que estavam na cidade de Samaria, a capital de Israel!
Y así que llegaron á Samaria, dijo Eliseo: Jehová, abre los ojos de éstos, para que vean. Y Jehová abrió sus ojos, y miraron, y halláronse en medio de Samaria.
And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

Quando o rei de Israel viu que os inimigos estavam em seu poder, perguntou a Eliseu: “Ó meu pai, devo matar todos agora? Devo matá-los?”
Y cuando el rey de Israel los hubo visto, dijo á Eliseo: ¿Herirélos, padre mío?
And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

“De maneira alguma”, respondeu Eliseu. “Por acaso é costume matar prisioneiros de guerra com a espada e o arco? Pelo contrário, ofereça a eles alimento para matar a fome e água para matar a sede deles; depois, deixe que eles voltem para o seu senhor”.
Y él le respondió: No los hieras; ¿herirías tú á los que tomaste cautivos con tu espada y con tu arco? Pon delante de ellos pan y agua, para que coman y beban, y se vuelvan á sus señores.
And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
He answered, “You shall not strike them. Would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, then go to their master.”
Então o rei ofereceu aos soldados um grande banquete. Terminando eles de comer e beber, despediu todos para as suas terras, para o seu rei. Assim as tropas sírias partiram e não voltaram mais a invadir a terra de Israel.
Entonces les fué aparejada grande comida: y como hubieron comido y bebido, enviólos, y ellos se volvieron á su señor. Y nunca más vinieron cuadrillas de Siria á la tierra de Israel.
And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
He prepared a great feast for them. After they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria stopped raiding the land of Israel.

Com isso, houve uma grande miséria na cidade, e o povo começou a passar fome. Tudo ficou muito caro, especialmente a comida. Vendiam a cabeça de um jumento por oitenta peças de prata; até o esterco de pombos valia cinco peças de prata!
Y hubo grande hambre en Samaria, teniendo ellos cerco sobre ella; tanto, que la cabeza de un asno era vendida por ochenta piezas de plata, y la cuarta de un cabo de estiércol de palomas por cinco piezas de plata.
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass’s head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.

Um dia, quando o rei de Israel andava pelos muros da cidade, uma mulher gritou para ele: “Ó rei, meu senhor! Ajude-me, por favor! Ajude-me!”
Y pasando el rey de Israel por el muro, una mujer le dió voces, y dijo: Salva, rey señor mío.
And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, saying, “Help, my lord, O king!”
O rei respondeu: “Se o Senhor não a ajudar, como poderei ajudá-la? Acaso há trigo na eira e vinho no tanque de prensar uvas?”
Y él dijo: Si no te salva Jehová, ¿de dónde te tengo de salvar yo? ¿del alfolí, ó del lagar?
And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
He said, “If the LORD doesn’t help you, where could I get help for you? From the threshing floor, or from the wine press?”
Porém, ele perguntou: “Por que você está pedindo socorro?” Ela respondeu: “Esta mulher me disse: ‘Vamos matar e comer o seu filho hoje, e amanhã comeremos o seu’.
Y díjole el rey: ¿Qué tienes? Y ella respondió: Esta mujer me dijo: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo hoy, y mañana comeremos el mío.
And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow.
Then the king asked her, “What is your problem?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.’
Assim fizemos. Matamos ontem o meu filho, o cozinhamos e comemos a sua carne. Hoje é o dia de comermos o filho dela, mas ela escondeu seu filho!”
Cocimos pues mi hijo, y le comimos. El día siguiente yo le dije: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo. Mas ella ha escondido su hijo.
So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son.

Quando o rei ouviu as palavras da mulher, ficou horrorizado e rasgou as suas roupas em sinal de tristeza. O povo que observava essa cena notou que o rei, debaixo das vestes rasgadas, usava uma roupa feita de pano de saco grosseiro sobre a pele.
Y como el rey oyó las palabras de aquella mujer, rasgó sus vestidos, y pasó así por el muro: y llegó á ver el pueblo el saco que traía interiormente sobre su carne.
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
When the king heard the words of the woman, he tore his clothes. Now he was passing by on the wall, and the people looked, and behold, he had sackcloth underneath on his body.
E ele disse: “Que Deus me mate, se eu não cortar a cabeça de Eliseu, filho de Safate, antes do dia acabar”.
Y él dijo: Así me haga Dios, y así me añada, si la cabeza de Eliseo hijo de Saphat quedare sobre él hoy.
Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.

Eliseu estava sentado em sua casa, reunido com os homens mais velhos de Israel, quando o rei mandou um mensageiro chamá-lo. Antes, porém, de o mensageiro chegar, Eliseu disse aos homens: “Aquele assassino está mandando um homem para cortar a minha cabeça. Quando o mensageiro chegar, fechem a porta e o deixem do lado de fora, pois o seu senhor certamente virá logo atrás dele”.
Estaba á la sazón Eliseo sentado en su casa, y con él estaban sentados los ancianos: y el rey envió á él un hombre. Mas antes que el mensajero viniese á él, dijo él á los ancianos: ¿No habéis visto cómo este hijo del homicida me envía á quitar la cabeza? Mirad pues, y cuando viniere el mensajero, cerrad la puerta, é impedidle la entrada: ¿no viene tras él el ruido de los pies de su amo?
But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?
But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. Then the king sent a man from before him; but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, “Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Behold, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold the door shut against him. Isn’t the sound of his master’s feet behind him?”
Enquanto Eliseu ainda falava, o mensageiro chegou seguido pelo rei. E o rei disse: “O Senhor causou todo este mal. Como, pois, devo esperar ainda auxílio da parte do Senhor?”
Aun estaba él hablando con ellos, y he aquí el mensajero que descendía á él; y dijo: Ciertamente este mal de Jehová viene. ¿Para qué tengo de esperar más á Jehová?
And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
While he was still talking with them, behold, the messenger came down to him. Then he said, “Behold, this evil is from the LORD. Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?”
