1Simon Petrus, Knecht und Apostel Jesu Christi, denen, die einen gleich kostbaren Glauben mit uns empfangen haben durch die Gerechtigkeit unseres Gottes und Heilandes Jesus Christus:
2Gnade und Friede sei euch vermehrt in der Erkenntnis Gottes und Jesu, unseres Herrn!
3Da seine göttliche Kraft uns alles in betreff des Lebens und der Gottseligkeit geschenkt hat durch die Erkenntnis dessen, der uns berufen hat durch Herrlichkeit und Tugend,
4durch welche er uns die größten und kostbaren Verheißungen geschenkt hat, auf daß ihr durch diese Teilhaber der göttlichen Natur werdet, indem ihr dem Verderben entflohen seid, das in der Welt ist durch die Lust;
5ebendeshalb reichet aber auch dar, indem ihr allen Fleiß anwendet, in eurem Glauben die Tugend, in der Tugend aber die Erkenntnis,
6in der Erkenntnis aber die Enthaltsamkeit, in der Enthaltsamkeit aber das Ausharren, in dem Ausharren aber die Gottseligkeit,
7in der Gottseligkeit aber die Bruderliebe, in der Bruderliebe aber die Liebe.
8Denn wenn diese Dinge bei euch sind und reichlich vorhanden, so stellen sie euch nicht träge noch fruchtleer hin bezüglich der Erkenntnis unseres Herrn Jesus Christus.
9Denn bei welchem diese Dinge nicht sind, der ist blind, kurzsichtig und hat die Reinigung seiner vorigen Sünden vergessen.
10Darum, Brüder, befleißiget euch um so mehr, eure Berufung und Erwählung fest zu machen; denn wenn ihr diese Dinge tut, so werdet ihr niemals straucheln.
11Denn also wird euch reichlich dargereicht werden der Eingang in das ewige Reich unseres Herrn und Heilandes Jesus Christus.
12Deshalb will ich Sorge tragen, euch immer an diese Dinge zu erinnern, wiewohl ihr sie wisset und in der gegenwärtigen Wahrheit befestigt seid.
13Ich halte es aber für recht, solange ich in dieser Hütte bin, euch durch Erinnerung aufzuwecken,
14da ich weiß, daß das Ablegen meiner Hütte bald geschieht, wie auch unser Herr Jesus Christus mir kundgetan hat.
15Ich will mich aber befleißigen, daß ihr auch zu jeder Zeit nach meinem Abschiede imstande seid, euch diese Dinge ins Gedächtnis zu rufen.
16Denn wir haben euch die Macht und Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus nicht kundgetan, indem wir künstlich erdichteten Fabeln folgten, sondern als die da Augenzeugen seiner herrlichen Größe gewesen sind.
17Denn er empfing von Gott, dem Vater, Ehre und Herrlichkeit, als von der prachtvollen Herrlichkeit eine solche Stimme an ihn erging: “Dieser ist mein geliebter Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen gefunden habe”.
18Und diese Stimme hörten wir vom Himmel her erlassen, als wir mit ihm auf dem heiligen Berge waren.
19Und so besitzen wir das prophetische Wort befestigt, auf welches zu achten ihr wohl tut, als auf eine Lampe, welche an einem dunklen Orte leuchtet, bis der Tag anbreche und der Morgenstern aufgehe in euren Herzen;
20indem ihr dies zuerst wisset, daß keine Weissagung der Schrift von eigener Auslegung ist.
21Denn die Weissagung wurde niemals durch den Willen des Menschen hervorgebracht, sondern heilige Männer Gottes redeten, getrieben vom Heiligen Geiste.

1SIMÓN Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, á los que habéis alcanzado fe igualmente preciosa con nosotros en la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo:
2Gracia y paz os sea multiplicada en el conocimiento de Dios, y de nuestro Señor Jesús.
3Como todas las cosas que pertenecen á la vida y á la piedad nos sean dadas de su divina potencia, por el conocimiento de aquel que nos ha llamado por su gloria y virtud:
4Por las cuales nos son dadas preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas fueseis hechos participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huído de la corrupción que está en el mundo por concupiscencia.
5Vosotros también, poniendo toda diligencia por esto mismo, mostrad en vuestra fe virtud, y en la virtud ciencia;
6Y en la ciencia templanza, y en la templanza paciencia, y en la paciencia temor de Dios;
7Y en el temor de Dios, amor fraternal, y en el amor fraternal caridad.
8Porque si en vosotros hay estas cosas, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos, ni estériles en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
9Mas el que no tiene estas cosas, es ciego, y tiene la vista muy corta, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.
10Por lo cual, hermanos, procurad tanto más de hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.
11Porque de esta manera os será abundantemente administrada la entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.
12Por esto, yo no dejaré de amonestaros siempre de estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.
13Porque tengo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este tabernáculo, de incitaros con amonestación:
14Sabiendo que brevemente tengo de dejar mi tabernáculo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.
15También yo procuraré con diligencia, que después de mi fallecimiento, vosotros podáis siempre tener memoria de estas cosas.
16Porque no os hemos dado á conocer la potencia y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, siguiendo fábulas por arte compuestas; sino como habiendo con nuestros propios ojos visto su majestad.
17Porque él había recibido de Dios Padre honra y gloria, cuando una tal voz fué á él enviada de la magnífica gloria: Este es el amado Hijo mío, en el cual yo me he agradado.
18Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos juntamente con él en el monte santo.
19Tenemos también la palabra profética más permanente, á la cual hacéis bien de estar atentos como á una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro hasta que el día esclarezca, y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones:
20Entendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de particular interpretación;
21Porque la profecía no fué en los tiempos pasados traída por voluntad humana, sino los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados del Espíritu Santo.

1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

5Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;
6and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness;
7and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.
8For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.
10Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.
11For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
12Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the present truth.
13I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
14knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
15Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.
16For we didn’t follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17For he received from God the Father honor and glory when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
18We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
19We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts,
20knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation.
21For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
