1Simon Petrus, ein Knecht und Apostel Jesu Christi, denen, die mit uns ebendenselben teuren Glauben überkommen haben in der Gerechtigkeit, die unser Gott gibt und der Heiland Jesus Christus:
2Gott gebe euch viel Gnade und Frieden durch die Erkenntnis Gottes und Jesu Christi, unsers HERRN!
3Nachdem allerlei seiner göttlichen Kraft, was zum Leben und göttlichen Wandel dient, uns geschenkt ist durch die Erkenntnis des, der uns berufen hat durch seine Herrlichkeit und Tugend,
4durch welche uns die teuren und allergrößten Verheißungen geschenkt sind, nämlich, daß ihr dadurch teilhaftig werdet der göttlichen Natur, so ihr fliehet die vergängliche Lust der Welt;
5so wendet allen euren Fleiß daran und reichet dar in eurem Glauben Tugend und in der Tugend Erkenntnis
6und in der Erkenntnis Mäßigkeit und in der Mäßigkeit Geduld und in der Geduld Gottseligkeit
7und in der Gottseligkeit brüderliche Liebe und in der brüderlichen Liebe allgemeine Liebe.
8Denn wo solches reichlich bei euch ist, wird's euch nicht faul noch unfruchtbar sein lassen in der Erkenntnis unsers HERRN Jesu Christi;
9welcher aber solches nicht hat, der ist blind und tappt mit der Hand und vergißt die Reinigung seiner vorigen Sünden.
10Darum, liebe Brüder, tut desto mehr Fleiß, eure Berufung und Erwählung festzumachen; denn wo ihr solches tut, werdet ihr nicht straucheln,
11und also wird euch reichlich dargereicht werden der Eingang zu dem ewigen Reich unsers HERRN und Heilandes Jesu Christi.
12Darum will ich's nicht lassen, euch allezeit daran zu erinnern, wiewohl ihr's wisset und gestärkt seid in der gegenwärtigen Wahrheit.
13Ich achte es für billig, solange ich in dieser Hütte bin, euch zu erinnern und zu erwecken;
14denn ich weiß, daß ich meine Hütte bald ablegen muß, wie mir denn auch unser HERR Jesus Christus eröffnet hat.
15Ich will aber Fleiß tun, daß ihr allezeit nach meinem Abschied solches im Gedächtnis halten könnt.
16Denn wir sind nicht klugen Fabeln gefolgt, da wir euch kundgetan haben die Kraft und Zukunft unsers HERRN Jesus Christus; sondern wir haben seine Herrlichkeit selber gesehen,
17da er empfing von Gott, dem Vater, Ehre und Preis durch eine Stimme, die zu ihm geschah von der großen Herrlichkeit: “Dies ist mein lieber Sohn, an dem ich Wohlgefallen habe.”
18Und diese Stimme haben wir gehört vom Himmel geschehen, da wir mit ihm waren auf dem heiligen Berge.
19Und wir haben desto fester das prophetische Wort, und ihr tut wohl, daß ihr darauf achtet als auf ein Licht, das da scheint in einem dunklen Ort, bis der Tag anbreche und der Morgenstern aufgehe in euren Herzen.
20Und das sollt ihr für das Erste wissen, daß keine Weissagung in der Schrift geschieht aus eigener Auslegung.
21Denn es ist noch nie eine Weissagung aus menschlichem Willen hervorgebracht; sondern die heiligen Menschen Gottes haben geredet, getrieben von dem heiligen Geist.

1SIMÓN Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, á los que habéis alcanzado fe igualmente preciosa con nosotros en la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo:
2Gracia y paz os sea multiplicada en el conocimiento de Dios, y de nuestro Señor Jesús.
3Como todas las cosas que pertenecen á la vida y á la piedad nos sean dadas de su divina potencia, por el conocimiento de aquel que nos ha llamado por su gloria y virtud:
4Por las cuales nos son dadas preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas fueseis hechos participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huído de la corrupción que está en el mundo por concupiscencia.
5Vosotros también, poniendo toda diligencia por esto mismo, mostrad en vuestra fe virtud, y en la virtud ciencia;
6Y en la ciencia templanza, y en la templanza paciencia, y en la paciencia temor de Dios;
7Y en el temor de Dios, amor fraternal, y en el amor fraternal caridad.
8Porque si en vosotros hay estas cosas, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos, ni estériles en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
9Mas el que no tiene estas cosas, es ciego, y tiene la vista muy corta, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.
10Por lo cual, hermanos, procurad tanto más de hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.
11Porque de esta manera os será abundantemente administrada la entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.
12Por esto, yo no dejaré de amonestaros siempre de estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.
13Porque tengo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este tabernáculo, de incitaros con amonestación:
14Sabiendo que brevemente tengo de dejar mi tabernáculo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.
15También yo procuraré con diligencia, que después de mi fallecimiento, vosotros podáis siempre tener memoria de estas cosas.
16Porque no os hemos dado á conocer la potencia y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, siguiendo fábulas por arte compuestas; sino como habiendo con nuestros propios ojos visto su majestad.
17Porque él había recibido de Dios Padre honra y gloria, cuando una tal voz fué á él enviada de la magnífica gloria: Este es el amado Hijo mío, en el cual yo me he agradado.
18Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos juntamente con él en el monte santo.
19Tenemos también la palabra profética más permanente, á la cual hacéis bien de estar atentos como á una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro hasta que el día esclarezca, y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones:
20Entendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de particular interpretación;
21Porque la profecía no fué en los tiempos pasados traída por voluntad humana, sino los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados del Espíritu Santo.

1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
6And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
7And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;
14Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

1Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

3seeing that his divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue,
4by which he has granted to us his precious and exceedingly great promises; that through these you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust.
5Yes, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence; and in moral excellence, knowledge;
6and in knowledge, self-control; and in self-control, perseverance; and in perseverance, godliness;
7and in godliness, brotherly affection; and in brotherly affection, love.
8For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to not be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9For he who lacks these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.
10Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.
11For thus you will be richly supplied with the entrance into the eternal Kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
12Therefore I will not be negligent to remind you of these things, though you know them and are established in the present truth.
13I think it right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
14knowing that the putting off of my tent comes swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.
15Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.
16For we didn’t follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17For he received from God the Father honor and glory when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
18We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
19We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts,
20knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation.
21For no prophecy ever came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
