1Mis queridos hermanos, esta es ahora mi segunda carta para ustedes, y en esta como en la primera, estoy tratando de hacerlos pensar rectamente y mantener sus mentes alertas con mis consejos;
2Para que tengan en cuenta las palabras de los santos profetas del pasado, y la ley del Señor y Salvador que les fueron dados por sus apóstoles.
3Teniendo primero de todo el conocimiento de que en los últimos días habrá hombres que, gobernados por sus malos deseos, se burlaran de las cosas santas,
4Diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su venida? Porque desde él día que los padres durmieron hasta ahora, todo ha continuado como fue desde la creación del mundo.
5Pero al tomar este punto de vista, olvidaron la memoria de que en los viejos tiempos había un cielo y una tierra levantada del agua y rodeada de agua y que por el agua subsiste;
6Y que el mundo que entonces llegó a su fin por el desbordamiento de las aguas.
7Pero el presente cielo y la tierra han sido guardados para destrucción por el fuego, por la misma palabra, Ese fuego los quemará en él día del juicio y de la perdición de los malvados.
8Pero, mis queridos hermanos, tengan en cuenta esta única cosa, que con el Señor un día es lo mismo que mil años, y mil años no son más que un día.
9El Señor no tarda en cumplir su palabra, como a algunos les parece, sino que es paciente con nosotros, no deseando la destrucción de ninguno, sino que todos se aparten de sus malos caminos.
10Pero el día del Señor vendrá como un ladrón; y en ese día los cielos se envolverán con un gran ruido, y la sustancia de la tierra será cambiada por el calor violento, y el mundo y todo lo que hay en él se consumirá.
11Viendo que todas estas cosas están llegando a ese fin, ¿con cuánta devoción y santidad deben andar ustedes, en toda conducta santa y justicia,
12Buscando y verdaderamente deseando la venida del día de Dios, cuando los cielos llegará a su fin a través del fuego, y la sustancia de la tierra será cambiada por el gran calor?
13Pero teniendo fe en su palabra, estamos buscando un cielo nuevo y una tierra nueva, que será el lugar donde mora la justicia.
14Por esta razón, mis queridos hermanos, como ustedes están buscando estas cosas, tengan mucho cuidado de que cuando él venga puedan estar en paz delante de él, libre del pecado y de todo mal.
15Y tengan entendido que la paciencia del Señor es para la salvación; tal como nuestro hermano Pablo lo dijo en sus cartas, por la sabiduría que le fue dada;
16Y como dijo en todas sus cartas, que tenía que ver con estas cosas; en el cual hay algunos dichos duros, de modo que, como el resto de las Sagradas Escrituras, son torcidos por aquellos que son inciertos y sin conocimiento, para la destrucción de sus almas.
17Por esta razón, mis seres queridos, teniendo conocimiento de estas cosas antes de que ocurran, tengan cuidado de no ser arrastrados por el error de los inicuos, cayendo así de su verdadera fe.
18Más bien, crezcan en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Que él tenga la gloria ahora y para siempre. Que así sea.

1CARÍSIMOS, yo os escribo ahora esta segunda carta, por las cuales ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento;
2Para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y de nuestro mandamiento, que somos apóstoles del Señor y Salvador:
3Sabiendo primero esto, que en los postrimeros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias,
4Y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.
5Cierto ellos ignoran voluntariamente, que los cielos fueron en el tiempo antiguo, y la tierra que por agua y en agua está asentada, por la palabra de Dios;
6Por lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua:
7Mas los cielos que son ahora, y la tierra, son conservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio, y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.
8Mas, oh amados, no ignoréis esta una cosa: que un día delante del Señor es como mil años y mil años como un día.
9El Señor no tarda su promesa, como algunos la tienen por tardanza; sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.
10Mas el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche; en el cual los cielos pasarán con grande estruendo, y los elementos ardiendo serán deshechos, y la tierra y las obras que en ella están serán quemadas.
11Pues como todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas, ¿qué tales conviene que vosotros seáis en santas y pías conversaciones,
12Esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos siendo encendidos serán deshechos, y los elementos siendo abrasados, se fundirán?
13Bien que esperamos cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, según sus promesas, en los cuales mora la justicia.
14Por lo cual, oh amados, estando en esperanza de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia que seáis hallados de él sin mácula, y sin reprensión, en paz.
15Y tened por salud la paciencia de nuestro Señor; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito también;
16Casi en todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos é inconstantes tuercen, como también las otras Escrituras, para perdición de sí mismos.
17Así que vosotros, oh amados, pues estáis amonestados, guardaos que por el error de los abominables no seáis juntamente extraviados, y caigáis de vuestra firmeza.
18Mas creced en la gracia y conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you
2that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
3knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts
4and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
5For they willfully forget that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water by the word of God,
6by which means the world that existed then, being overflowed with water, perished.
7But the heavens that exist now and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat; and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
11Therefore, since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
14Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.
15Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,
16as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
