1Je vous écris déjà, bien-aimés, cette seconde lettre ; et, dans l’une et dans l’autre, je réveille votre pure intelligence en rappelant [ces choses] à votre mémoire,
2afin que vous vous souveniez des paroles qui ont été dites à l’avance par les saints prophètes, et du commandement du Seigneur et Sauveur par vos apôtres,
3sachant tout d’abord ceci, qu’aux derniers jours des moqueurs viendront, marchant dans la moquerie selon leurs propres convoitises
4et disant : Où est la promesse de sa venue ? car, depuis que les pères se sont endormis, toutes choses demeurent au même état dès le commencement de la création.
5Car ils ignorent volontairement ceci, que, par la parole de Dieu, des cieux subsistaient jadis, et une terre [tirée] des eaux et subsistant au milieu des eaux,
6par lesquelles le monde d’alors fut détruit, étant submergé par de l’eau.
7Mais les cieux et la terre de maintenant sont réservés par sa parole pour le feu, gardés pour le jour du jugement et de la destruction des hommes impies.
8Mais n’ignorez pas cette chose, bien-aimés, c’est qu’un jour est devant le ✶Seigneur comme 1 000 ans, et 1 000 ans comme un jour.
9Le ✶Seigneur ne tarde pas pour ce qui concerne la promesse, comme quelques-uns estiment qu’il y a du retardement ; mais il est patient envers vous, ne voulant pas qu’aucun périsse, mais que tous viennent à la repentance.
10Or le jour du ✶Seigneur viendra comme un voleur ; et, dans ce jour-là, les cieux passeront avec un bruit sifflant, et les éléments embrasés seront dissous, et la terre et les œuvres qui sont en elle seront brûlées entièrement.
11Toutes ces choses devant donc se dissoudre, quelles [gens] devriez-vous être en sainte conduite et en piété,
12attendant et hâtant la venue du jour de Dieu, à cause duquel les cieux en feu seront dissous et les éléments embrasés se fondront.
13Mais, selon sa promesse, nous attendons de nouveaux cieux et une nouvelle terre, dans lesquels la justice habite.
14C’est pourquoi, bien-aimés, en attendant ces choses, étudiez-vous à être trouvés sans tache et irréprochables devant lui, en paix ;
15et estimez que la patience de notre Seigneur est salut, comme notre bien-aimé frère Paul aussi vous a écrit selon la sagesse qui lui a été donnée,
16ainsi qu’[il le fait] aussi dans toutes ses lettres, où il parle de ces choses, parmi lesquelles il y en a de difficiles à comprendre, que les ignorants et les mal affermis tordent, comme aussi les autres écritures, à leur propre destruction.
17Vous donc, bien-aimés, sachant [ces choses] à l’avance, prenez garde, de peur qu’étant entraînés par l’erreur des pervers, vous ne veniez à déchoir de votre propre fermeté ;
18mais croissez dans la grâce et dans la connaissance de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus Christ. À lui la gloire, et maintenant et jusqu’au jour d’éternité ! Amen.

1CARÍSIMOS, yo os escribo ahora esta segunda carta, por las cuales ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento;
2Para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y de nuestro mandamiento, que somos apóstoles del Señor y Salvador:
3Sabiendo primero esto, que en los postrimeros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias,
4Y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.
5Cierto ellos ignoran voluntariamente, que los cielos fueron en el tiempo antiguo, y la tierra que por agua y en agua está asentada, por la palabra de Dios;
6Por lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua:
7Mas los cielos que son ahora, y la tierra, son conservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio, y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.
8Mas, oh amados, no ignoréis esta una cosa: que un día delante del Señor es como mil años y mil años como un día.
9El Señor no tarda su promesa, como algunos la tienen por tardanza; sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.
10Mas el día del Señor vendrá como ladrón en la noche; en el cual los cielos pasarán con grande estruendo, y los elementos ardiendo serán deshechos, y la tierra y las obras que en ella están serán quemadas.
11Pues como todas estas cosas han de ser deshechas, ¿qué tales conviene que vosotros seáis en santas y pías conversaciones,
12Esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos siendo encendidos serán deshechos, y los elementos siendo abrasados, se fundirán?
13Bien que esperamos cielos nuevos y tierra nueva, según sus promesas, en los cuales mora la justicia.
14Por lo cual, oh amados, estando en esperanza de estas cosas, procurad con diligencia que seáis hallados de él sin mácula, y sin reprensión, en paz.
15Y tened por salud la paciencia de nuestro Señor; como también nuestro amado hermano Pablo, según la sabiduría que le ha sido dada, os ha escrito también;
16Casi en todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos é inconstantes tuercen, como también las otras Escrituras, para perdición de sí mismos.
17Así que vosotros, oh amados, pues estáis amonestados, guardaos que por el error de los abominables no seáis juntamente extraviados, y caigáis de vuestra firmeza.
18Mas creced en la gracia y conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A él sea gloria ahora y hasta el día de la eternidad. Amén.

1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you
2that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,
3knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts
4and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
5For they willfully forget that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water by the word of God,
6by which means the world that existed then, being overflowed with water, perished.
7But the heavens that exist now and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
8But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but he is patient with us, not wishing that anyone should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

14Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.
15Regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,
16as also in all of his letters, speaking in them of these things. In those, there are some things that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
17You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness.
18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
