Esta é minha segunda carta a vocês, queridos irmãos, e em ambas eu tenho procurado relembrar-lhes fatos que vocês já conhecem,
CARÍSIMOS, yo os escribo ahora esta segunda carta, por las cuales ambas despierto con exhortación vuestro limpio entendimiento;
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:

fatos que aprenderam dos santos profetas e de nós, os apóstolos, que lhes levamos as palavras do nosso Senhor e Salvador.
Para que tengáis memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los santos profetas, y de nuestro mandamiento, que somos apóstoles del Señor y Salvador:
That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

Em primeiro lugar, desejo lembrar-lhes que nos últimos dias haverá escarnecedores que farão todo o mal que eles mesmos puderem imaginar, e se rirão da verdade.
Sabiendo primero esto, que en los postrimeros días vendrán burladores, andando según sus propias concupiscencias,
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

Esta será a sua maneira de argumentar: “Jesus prometeu voltar, não foi? Então, onde está ele? Ele não virá nunca! Ora, até onde qualquer um pode lembrar-se, tudo tem permanecido exatamente como era desde o primeiro dia da criação”.
Y diciendo: ¿Dónde está la promesa de su advenimiento? porque desde el día en que los padres durmieron, todas las cosas permanecen así como desde el principio de la creación.
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Eles esquecem deliberadamente este fato: Deus, há muito tempo, fez os céus pela palavra da sua ordem e usou as águas para formar a terra e cercá-la.
Cierto ellos ignoran voluntariamente, que los cielos fueron en el tiempo antiguo, y la tierra que por agua y en agua está asentada, por la palabra de Dios;
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

E pela água Deus destruiu o mundo com um poderoso dilúvio.
Por lo cual el mundo de entonces pereció anegado en agua:
Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

E Deus ordenou que a terra e os céus fossem reservados para o fogo, guardados para o dia do juízo, quando todos os homens ímpios perecerão.
Mas los cielos que son ahora, y la tierra, son conservados por la misma palabra, guardados para el fuego en el día del juicio, y de la perdición de los hombres impíos.

Mas não se esqueçam disto, queridos amigos: Para o Senhor um dia é como mil anos, e mil anos são como um dia.

Ele não está sendo vagaroso com a sua volta prometida, embora por vezes pareça assim. Mas ele está esperando com paciência, porque não quer que ninguém pereça, e está dando mais tempo para os pecadores se arrependerem.
El Señor no tarda su promesa, como algunos la tienen por tardanza; sino que es paciente para con nosotros, no queriendo que ninguno perezca, sino que todos procedan al arrepentimiento.

E assim, já que tudo ao nosso redor se derreterá, que vidas santas e piedosas nós devemos viver!

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

Vocês devem aguardar ansiosamente aquele dia e apressá-lo — o dia em que os céus serão destruídos pelo fogo e os elementos se derreterão e desaparecerão em chamas.
Esperando y apresurándoos para la venida del día de Dios, en el cual los cielos siendo encendidos serán deshechos, y los elementos siendo abrasados, se fundirán?

Nós, porém, estamos aguardando ansiosamente a promessa divina de novos céus e nova terra depois disso tudo, onde habita a justiça.

E lembrem-se por que ele está esperando. Ele nos está dando tempo para anunciar a sua mensagem de salvação aos outros. O nosso amado irmão Paulo já falou com grande sabedoria acerca dessas mesmas coisas em muitas das suas cartas.

Algumas explicações dele não são fáceis de entender, e há pessoas instáveis e ignorantes que sempre estão buscando alguma interpretação fora do comum; elas torceram as cartas dele de todos os lados, dando um significado completamente diferente daquilo que ele queria dizer, tal como fazem com as outras partes das Escrituras. Mas o resultado será a ruína deles.
Casi en todas sus epístolas, hablando en ellas de estas cosas; entre las cuales hay algunas difíciles de entender, las cuales los indoctos é inconstantes tuercen, como también las otras Escrituras, para perdición de sí mismos.
