1Und Jehova sandte Nathan zu David; und er kam zu ihm und sprach zu ihm: Zwei Männer waren in einer Stadt, der eine reich, und der andere arm.
2Der Reiche hatte Kleinvieh und Rinder in großer Menge.
3Der Arme hatte aber gar nichts, als nur ein einziges kleines Lamm, das er gekauft hatte; und er nährte es, und es wurde groß bei ihm, und mit seinen Kindern zugleich; es aß von seinem Bissen und trank aus seinem Becher und schlief an seinem Busen, und es war ihm wie eine Tochter.
4Da kam ein Reisender zu dem reichen Manne; und es dauerte ihn, von seinem Kleinvieh und von seinen Rindern zu nehmen, um es für den Wanderer zuzurichten, der zu ihm gekommen war, und er nahm das Lamm des armen Mannes und richtete es zu für den Mann, der zu ihm gekommen war.
5Da entbrannte der Zorn Davids sehr wider den Mann, und er sprach zu Nathan: So wahr Jehova lebt, der Mann, der dieses getan hat, ist ein Kind des Todes;
6und das Lamm soll er vierfältig erstatten, darum daß er diese Sache getan, und weil er kein Mitleid gehabt hat!
7Da sprach Nathan zu David: Du bist der Mann! So spricht Jehova, der Gott Israels: Ich habe dich zum König über Israel gesalbt, und ich habe dich aus der Hand Sauls errettet,
8und ich habe dir das Haus deines Herrn gegeben und die Weiber deines Herrn in deinen Schoß, und habe dir das Haus Israel und Juda gegeben; und wenn es zu wenig war, so hätte ich dir noch dies und das hinzugefügt.
9Warum hast du das Wort Jehovas verachtet, indem du tatest, was übel ist in seinen Augen? Urija, den Hethiter, hast du mit dem Schwerte erschlagen, und sein Weib hast du dir zum Weibe genommen; ihn selbst hast du ja umgebracht durch das Schwert der Kinder Ammon.
10Nun denn, so soll von deinem Hause das Schwert nicht weichen ewiglich, darum daß du mich verachtet und das Weib Urijas, des Hethiters, genommen hast, daß sie dir zum Weibe sei.
11So spricht Jehova: Siehe, ich will aus deinem Hause Unglück über dich erwecken, und ich will deine Weiber vor deinen Augen nehmen und sie deinem Nächsten geben, daß er bei deinen Weibern liege vor den Augen dieser Sonne!
12Denn du, du hast es im Verborgenen getan; ich aber, ich werde dieses tun vor ganz Israel und vor der Sonne!
13Da sprach David zu Nathan: Ich habe gegen Jehova gesündigt. Und Nathan sprach zu David: So hat auch Jehova deine Sünde hinweggetan, du wirst nicht sterben.
14Nur weil du den Feinden Jehovas durch diese Sache Anlaß zur Lästerung gegeben hast, so soll auch der Sohn, der dir geboren ist, gewißlich sterben.
15Und Nathan ging nach seinem Hause. Und Jehova schlug das Kind, welches das Weib Urijas dem David geboren hatte, und es wurde todkrank.
16Und David suchte Gott um des Knaben willen; und David fastete und ging hinein und lag über Nacht auf der Erde.
17Und die Ältesten seines Hauses machten sich zu ihm auf, um ihn von der Erde aufzurichten; aber er wollte nicht und aß kein Brot mit ihnen.
18Und es geschah am siebten Tage, da starb das Kind. Und die Knechte Davids fürchteten sich, ihm zu berichten, daß das Kind tot sei; denn sie sprachen: Siehe, als das Kind noch am Leben war, haben wir zu ihm geredet, und er hat nicht auf unsere Stimme gehört; und wie sollen wir nun zu ihm sagen: Das Kind ist tot? Er würde etwas Übles tun.
19Und David sah, daß seine Knechte sich zuflüsterten; da merkte David, daß das Kind tot war; und David sprach zu seinen Knechten: Ist das Kind tot? Und sie sprachen: Es ist tot.
20Da stand David von der Erde auf und wusch und salbte sich und wechselte seine Kleider, und ging in das Haus Jehovas und betete an; und er kam in sein Haus und forderte, daß man ihm Speise vorsetze, und er aß.
21Da sprachen seine Knechte zu ihm: Was ist das für ein Ding, das du tust? Als das Kind lebte, hast du um seinetwillen gefastet und geweint, und wie das Kind tot ist, stehst du auf und issest?
22Und er sprach: Als das Kind noch lebte, habe ich gefastet und geweint, weil ich dachte: Wer weiß, ob Jehova mir nicht gnädig sein wird, daß das Kind am Leben bleibt?
23Nun es aber tot ist, warum sollte ich denn fasten? Vermag ich es wieder zurückzubringen? Ich gehe zu ihm, aber es wird nicht zu mir zurückkehren.
24Und David tröstete Bathseba, sein Weib, und ging zu ihr ein und lag bei ihr. Und sie gebar einen Sohn, und er gab ihm den Namen Salomo.
25Und Jehova liebte ihn. Und er sandte durch Nathan, den Propheten, und gab ihm den Namen Jedidjah, um Jehovas willen.
26Und Joab stritt wider Rabba der Kinder Ammon, und er nahm die Königsstadt ein.
27Und Joab sandte Boten zu David und ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe wider Rabba gestritten, habe auch die Wasserstadt eingenommen;
28und nun versammle das übrige Volk und belagere die Stadt und nimm sie ein, daß nicht ich die Stadt einnehme, und sie nach meinem Namen genannt werde.
29Da versammelte David alles Volk und zog nach Rabba, und er stritt wider dasselbe und nahm es ein.
30Und er nahm die Krone ihres Königs von seinem Haupte; ihr Gewicht war ein Talent Gold, und Edelsteine waren daran; und sie kam auf das Haupt Davids. Und die Beute der Stadt brachte er hinaus in großer Menge.
31Und das Volk, das darin war, führte er hinaus und legte es unter die Säge und unter eiserne Dreschwagen und unter eiserne Beile, und ließ sie durch einen Ziegelofen gehen. Und also tat er allen Städten der Kinder Ammon. Und David und das ganze Volk kehrten nach Jerusalem zurück.

1Y ENVIÓ Jehová á Nathán á David, el cual viniendo á él, díjole: Había dos hombres en una ciudad, el uno rico, y el otro pobre.
2El rico tenía numerosas ovejas y vacas:
3Mas el pobre no tenía más que una sola cordera, que él había comprado y criado, y que había crecido con él y con sus hijos juntamente, comiendo de su bocado, y bebiendo de su vaso, y durmiendo en su seno: y teníala como á una hija.
4Y vino uno de camino al hombre rico; y él no quiso tomar de sus ovejas y de sus vacas, para guisar al caminante que le había venido, sino que tomó la oveja de aquel hombre pobre, y aderezóla para aquél que le había venido.
5Entonces se encendió el furor de David en gran manera contra aquel hombre, y dijo á Nathán: Vive Jehová, que el que tal hizo es digno de muerte.
6Y que él debe pagar la cordera con cuatro tantos, porque hizo esta tal cosa, y no tuvo misericordia.
7Entonces dijo Nathán á David: Tú eres aquel hombre. Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Yo te ungí por rey sobre Israel, y te libré de la mano de Saúl;
8Yo te dí la casa de tu señor, y las mujeres de tu señor en tu seno: demás de esto te dí la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si esto es poco, yo te añadiré tales y tales cosas.
9¿Por qué pues tuviste en poco la palabra de Jehová, haciendo lo malo delante de sus ojos? A Uría Hetheo heriste á cuchillo, y tomaste por tu mujer á su mujer, y á él mataste con el cuchillo de los hijos de Ammón.
10Por lo cual ahora no se apartará jamás de tu casa la espada; por cuanto me menospreciaste, y tomaste la mujer de Uría Hetheo para que fuese tu mujer.
11Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo levantaré sobre ti el mal de tu misma casa, y tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos, y las daré á tu prójimo, el cual yacerá con tus mujeres á la vista de este sol.
12Porque tú lo hiciste en secreto; mas yo haré esto delante de todo Israel, y delante del sol.
13Entonces dijo David á Nathán: Pequé contra Jehová. Y Nathán dijo á David: También Jehová ha remitido tu pecado: no morirás.
14Mas por cuanto con este negocio hiciste blasfemar á los enemigos de Jehová, el hijo que te ha nacido morirá ciertamente.
15Y Nathán se volvió á su casa. Y Jehová hirió al niño que la mujer de Uría había parido á David, y enfermó gravemente.
16Entonces rogó David á Dios por el niño; y ayunó David, recogióse, y pasó la noche acostado en tierra.
17Y levantándose los ancianos de su casa fueron á él para hacerlo levantar de tierra; mas él no quiso, ni comió con ellos pan.
18Y al séptimo día murió el niño; pero sus siervos no osaban hacerle saber que el niño era muerto, diciendo entre sí: Cuando el niño aun vivía, le hablábamos, y no quería oir nuestra voz: ¿pues cuánto más mal le hará, si le dijéremos que el niño es muerto?
19Mas David viendo á sus siervos hablar entre sí, entendió que el niño era muerto; por lo que dijo David á sus siervos: ¿Es muerto el niño? Y ellos respondieron: Muerto es.
20Entonces David se levantó de tierra, y lavóse y ungióse, y mudó sus ropas, y entró á la casa de Jehová, y adoró. Y después vino á su casa, y demandó, y pusiéronle pan, y comió.
21Y dijéronle sus siervos: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Por el niño, viviendo aún, ayunabas y llorabas; y él muerto, levantástete y comiste pan.
22Y él respondió: Viviendo aún el niño, yo ayunaba y lloraba, diciendo: ¿Quién sabe si Dios tendrá compasión de mí, por manera que viva el niño?
23Mas ahora que ya es muerto, ¿para qué tengo de ayunar? ¿podré yo hacerle volver? Yo voy á él, mas él no volverá á mí.
24Y consoló David á Bath-sheba su mujer, y entrando á ella, durmió con ella; y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Salomón, al cual amó Jehová:
25Que envió por mano de Nathán profeta, y llamó su nombre Jedidiah, á causa de Jehová.
26Y Joab peleaba contra Rabba de los hijos de Ammón, y tomó la ciudad real.
27Entonces envió Joab mensajeros á David, diciendo: Yo he peleado contra Rabba, y he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.
28Junta pues ahora el pueblo que queda, y asienta campo contra la ciudad, y tómala; porque tomando yo la ciudad, no se llame de mi nombre.
29Y juntando David todo el pueblo, fué contra Rabba, y combatióla, y tomóla.
30Y tomó la corona de su rey de su cabeza, la cual pesaba un talento de oro, y tenía piedras preciosas; y fué puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y trajo muy grande despojo de la ciudad.
31Sacó además el pueblo que estaba en ella, y púsolo debajo de sierras, y de trillos de hierro, y de hachas de hierro; é hízolos pasar por hornos de ladrillos: y lo mismo hizo á todas las ciudades de los hijos de Ammón. Volvióse luego David con todo el pueblo á Jerusalem.

1And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
6And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
7And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
9Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
14Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
15And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
22And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24And David comforted Bath-sheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.
25And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.
26And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.

1The LORD sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.
2The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.
4A traveler came to the rich man, and he didn’t want to take of his own flock and of his own herd to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
5David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!
6He must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity!”
7Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9Why have you despised the LORD’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’
11“This is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12For you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the LORD’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”
15Then Nathan departed to his house. The LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and he was very sick.
16David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in and lay all night on the ground.

19But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the LORD’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.
21Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
22He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether the LORD will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. The LORD loved him;
