Sucedió después que Amnón, hijo de David, se enamoró de una hermana de Absalón, también hijo de David, llamada Tamar, la cual era en extremo hermosa;
ACONTECIÓ después de esto, que teniendo Absalom hijo de David una hermana hermosa que se llamaba Thamar, enamoróse de ella Amnón hijo de David.
And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.

y creció tanto en él la pasión, que el amor suyo vino a enfermar; pues como Tamar era virgen, le parecía muy dificultoso poder hacer con ella cosa alguna deshonesta.
Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermar, por Thamar su hermana: porque por ser ella virgen, parecía á Amnón que sería cosa dificultosa hacerle algo.

Le dijo, pues, éste a Amnón: ¿En qué consiste, príncipe mío, que cada día te vas poniendo más flaco? ¿Por qué no te descubres conmigo? Le respondió Amnón: Estoy enamorado de Tamar, hermana de Absalón, mi hermano.
Y éste le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas así enflaqueciendo? ¿no me lo descubrirás á mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo á Thamar la hermana de Absalom mi hermano.
And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.
He said to him, “Why, son of the king, are you so sad from day to day? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
Replicó Jonadab: Quédate en cama, como que estás malo, y cuando venga tu padre a visitarte, dile: Te suplico que venga mi hermana Tamar a darme la comida, y me componga ella misma algún plato con que me alimente.
Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere á visitarte, dile: Ruégote que venga mi hermana Thamar, para que me conforte con alguna comida, y aderece delante de mí alguna vianda, para que viendo yo, la coma de su mano.
And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

Se puso, pues, Amnón en cama, y empezó a fingirse enfermo; y habiendo venido el rey a visitarlo, le dijo Amnón: Te ruego que venga a verme mi hermana Tamar, y que a presencia mía me haga un par de hojuelas, que coma yo de su mano.
Acostóse pues Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo, y vino el rey á visitarle: y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Thamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, que coma yo de su mano.
So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

Con esto David envió un recado a casa de Tamar, y la hizo decir: Anda, ve a casa de tu hermano Amnón, y hazle alguna cosa de comer.

Y así que le presentó el plato, asió de ella, diciéndole: Ven, hermana mía, duerme conmigo.

And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

La cual le respondió: No quieras hacerme violencia, hermano mío, no, pues no es esto permitido en Israel; no hagas tal villanía,

And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

porque yo no podré sufrir mi oprobio, y tú serás tenido por un insensato en Israel. Mejor será que hables al rey para casarme contigo, que no rehusará entregarme a ti.
Porque, ¿dónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los perversos en Israel. Ruégote pues ahora que hables al rey, que no me negará á ti.
And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.
As for me, where would I carry my shame? And as for you, you will be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”
Mas Amnón no quiso aquietarse con estos ruegos, sino que prevaleciendo en fuerzas, la violentó y durmió con ella.
Mas él no la quiso oir; antes pudiendo más que ella la forzó, y echóse con ella.
Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

Y en seguida le tomó tan extraordinaria aversión, que era más intenso el odio que concibió contra ella, que el amor con que antes la amaba; y así le dijo Amnón: Levántate y vete de aquí.
Aborrecióla luego Amnón de tan grande aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció fué mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y díjole Amnón: Levántate y vete.
Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

Le replicó Tamar: El ultraje que ahora me haces echándome de esa manera, es mayor que el que me has hecho antes. Pero Amnón no quiso escucharla;

And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

antes llamando a uno de sus criados le dijo: Hazla salir de aquí, y cierra tras ella la puerta.

Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

Estaba Tamar vestida de una ropa talar de varios colores, traje que acostumbraban a usar las doncellas hijas del rey. El criado, pues, de Amnón la hizo salir fuera del aposento, y cerró tras ella la puerta.
Y tenía ella sobre sí una ropa de colores, traje que las hijas vírgenes de los reyes vestían. Echóla pues fuera su criado, y cerró la puerta tras ella.
And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

Entonces Tamar esparciendo ceniza sobre su cabeza, y rasgando su ropa talar, se fue dando gritos y cubriéndose con ambas manos la cabeza.

Le dijo Absalón, su hermano: ¿Es acaso que tu hermano ha abusado de ti? Mas por ahora, hermana mía calla; que al fin es hermano tuyo; no te desesperes por esa desgracia. Con eso Tamar se quedó en casa de su hermano Absalón, consumiéndose de tristeza y de dolor.
Y díjole su hermano Absalom: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía: tu hermano es; no pongas tu corazón en este negocio. Y quedóse Thamar desconsolada en casa de Absalom su hermano.
And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.

Habiendo David oído este suceso, se afligió sobremanera; mas no quiso contristar el ánimo de su hijo Amnón; porque lo amaba muy particularmente por ser su primogénito.

Al cabo de dos años acaeció que Absalón hacía el esquileo de sus ovejas en Baalasor, que está cerca de la ciudad de Efraín o Efrem, y convidó Absalón a todos los hijos del rey.
Y aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalom tenía esquiladores en Bala-hasor, que está junto á Ephraim; y convidó Absalom á todos los hijos del rey.

A este fin fue a ver al rey y le dijo: Te hago presente que esquilan las ovejas de tu siervo; venga, pues, te suplico, el rey con sus criados a la casa de su siervo.
Y vino Absalom al rey, y díjole: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores: yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo.
And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

Respondió el rey a Absalón: No quieras pretender que vayamos todos, pues te sería muy costoso. Y como le hiciese nuevas instancias, David rehusó siempre ir, y le echó su bendición.
Y respondió el rey á Absalom: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, porque no te hagamos costa. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas bendíjolo.
And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.
The king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let’s not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.
Mas Absalón replicó: Ya que tú no quieres venir, venga, te suplico, con nosotros a lo menos mi hermano Amnón. Le dijo el rey: No hay necesidad de que vaya contigo.
Entonces dijo Absalom: Si no, ruégote que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?
Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

Al fin le importunó tanto Absalón, que dejó ir con él a Amnón con todos sus hermanos. El convite que Absalón tenía dispuesto era como un banquete de un rey.

Hicieron, pues, los criados de Absalón lo que éste les había mandado contra Amnón. Con lo que levantándose de la mesa montaron cada uno en su mula, y echaron a huir.
Y los criados de Absalom hicieron con Amnón como Absalom lo había mandado. Levantáronse luego todos los hijos del rey, y subieron todos en sus mulos, y huyeron.

Estando todavía en el camino, llegó a oídos de David el rumor de que Absalón había asesinado a todos los hijos del rey, sin quedar ni siquiera uno solo.

And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left.

Se levantó al instante el rey, y rasgó sus vestidos, se postró sobre la tierra; y se rasgaron asimismo los vestidos de los criados que le asistían.
Entonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y echóse en tierra, y todos sus criados, rasgados sus vestidos, estaban delante.

Y Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han muerto á todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, que sólo Amnón es muerto: porque en boca de Absalom estaba puesto desde el día que Amnón forzó á Thamar su hermana.
And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

No piense, pues, ni dé crédito el rey mi señor a esa voz que corre de que todos los hijos del rey han sido asesinados; porque sólo Amnón es el que ha muerto.
Por tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón esa voz que dice: Todos los hijos del rey son muertos: porque sólo Amnón es muerto.

Entretanto escapó Absalón. Un criado que estaba de atalaya, tendiendo la vista, vio venir mucha gente por un camino extraviado al lado del monte.

Apenas acabó de hablar, cuando se dejaron ver también los hijos del rey; y luego que llegaron, alzaron el grito y echaron a llorar. Se deshacían asimismo el rey y todos sus criados.
Y como él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos.
And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.
