Ajitofel le dijo a Absalón: ―Déjeme escoger a doce mil de los mejores hombres para salir en busca de David esta noche.

ENTONCES Achitophel dijo á Absalom: Yo escogeré ahora doce mil hombres, y me levantaré, y seguiré á David esta noche;

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:

Caeré sobre él mientras está cansado y desanimado. Él y todos los que están con él serán presa del pánico, y saldrán huyendo. Yo mataré solamente al rey y dejaré con vida a todos los demás, de modo que no les quedará más remedio que unirse a usted y servirle.

Y daré sobre él cuando él estará cansado y flaco de manos: lo atemorizaré, y todo el pueblo que está con él huirá, y heriré al rey solo.

And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:

I will come on him while he is weary and exhausted, and will make him afraid. All the people who are with him will flee. I will strike the king only,

Así tornaré á todo el pueblo á ti: y cuando ellos hubieren vuelto, (pues aquel hombre es el que tú quieres) todo el pueblo estará en paz.

And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest is as if all returned: so all the people shall be in peace.

Absalón y todos los ancianos de Israel aprobaron el plan,

Esta razón pareció bien á Absalom y á todos los ancianos de Israel.

Y dijo Absalom: Llama también ahora á Husai Arachîta, para que asimismo oigamos lo que él dirá.

Then said Absalom, Call now Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear likewise what he saith.

Then Absalom said, “Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let’s hear likewise what he says.”

Cuando Husay llegó, Absalón le contó lo que Ajitofel había dicho. ―¿Cuál es tu opinión? —le preguntó Absalón—. ¿Hemos de seguir el consejo de Ajitofel? ¿Qué piensas tú?

Y como Husai vino á Absalom, hablóle Absalom, diciendo: Así ha dicho Achitophel; ¿seguiremos su consejo, ó no? Di tú.

And when Hushai was come to Absalom, Absalom spake unto him, saying, Ahithophel hath spoken after this manner: shall we do after his saying? if not; speak thou.

When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, “Ahithophel has spoken like this. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up.”

Husay contestó: ―Creo que Ajitofel esta vez comete un error.

Entonces Husai dijo á Absalom: El consejo que ha dado esta vez Achitophel no es bueno.

And Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel hath given is not good at this time.

Hushai said to Absalom, “The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good.”

Usted conoce a su padre y a sus hombres. Bien sabe que son guerreros poderosos, y probablemente se encuentran tan enfurecidos como una osa a quien le han quitado sus ositos. Además, su padre es un guerrero de experiencia y no creo que vaya a pasar la noche junto con el pueblo.

Y añadió Husai: Tú sabes que tu padre y los suyos son hombres valientes, y que están con amargura de ánimo, como la osa en el campo cuando le han quitado los hijos. Además, tu padre es hombre de guerra, y no tendrá la noche con el pueblo.

For, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they be mighty men, and they be chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field: and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

Hushai said moreover, “You know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are fierce in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field. Your father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.

Es muy probable que se haya escondido en algún pozo, o en alguna caverna. Cuando él salga y ataque por sorpresa, entonces habrá pánico entre quienes le son leales a usted, y todos comenzarán a gritar que los están matando.

He aquí él estará ahora escondido en alguna cueva, ó en otro lugar: y si al principio cayeren algunos de los tuyos, oirálo quien lo oyere, y dirá: El pueblo que sigue á Absalom ha sido derrotado.

Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them be overthrown at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

Behold, he is now hidden in some pit, or in some other place. It will happen, when some of them have fallen at the first, that whoever hears it will say, ‘There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom!’

Entonces, aun los más valientes de ellos, los que son tan fieros como un león, se paralizarán de miedo. Porque todo Israel sabe cuán poderoso es su padre y cuán valientes son sus hombres.

Así aun el hombre valiente, cuyo corazón sea como corazón de león, sin duda desmayará: porque todo Israel sabe que tu padre es hombre valiente, y que los que están con él son esforzados.

And he also that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt: for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they which be with him are valiant men.

Even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men.

»Lo que sugiero es que movilice a todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, para que constituyan una gran fuerza. Usted, personalmente, debe guiar a sus hombres.

Aconsejo pues que todo Israel se junte á ti, desde Dan hasta Beer-seba, en multitud como la arena que está á la orilla de la mar, y que tú en persona vayas á la batalla.

Therefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together to you, from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that you go to battle in your own person.

Cuando encontremos a David, lo atacaremos y podremos destruir a todo el que está con él, de modo que ninguno de ellos quede vivo.

Entonces le acometeremos en cualquier lugar que pudiere hallarse, y daremos sobre él como cuando el rocío cae sobre la tierra, y ni uno dejaremos de él, y de todos los que con él están.

So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground: and of him and of all the men that are with him there shall not be left so much as one.

So we will come on him in some place where he will be found, and we will light on him as the dew falls on the ground, then we will not leave so much as one of him and of all the men who are with him.

Y si David se escapa y se oculta en alguna ciudad, usted tendrá todo Israel a sus órdenes, y podremos tomar sogas y arrastrar los muros de la ciudad hasta el valle más cercano, hasta que toda piedra haya sido removida.

Y si se recogiere en alguna ciudad, todos los de Israel traerán sogas á aquella ciudad, y la arrastraremos hasta el arroyo, que nunca más parezca piedra de ella.

Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.

Absalón y los hombres de Israel dijeron: ―El consejo de Husay es mejor que el de Ajitofel. Eso sucedió porque el Señor había dispuesto que se anulara el consejo de Ajitofel, cuyo plan realmente era el mejor, para que pudiera venir el desastre sobre Absalón.

Entonces Absalom y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai Arachîta es mejor que el consejo de Achitophel. Porque había Jehová ordenado que el acertado consejo de Achitophel se frustrara, para que Jehová hiciese venir el mal sobre Absalom.

And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the LORD had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil on Absalom.

Husay les contó a los sacerdotes Sadoc y Abiatar lo que Ajitofel había propuesto y lo que él había sugerido en cambio.

Dijo luego Husai á Sadoc y á Abiathar sacerdotes: Así y así aconsejó Achitophel á Absalom y á los ancianos de Israel: y de esta manera aconsejé yo.

Then said Hushai unto Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counsel Absalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.

Then Hushai said to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, “Ahithophel counseled Absalom and the elders of Israel that way; and I have counseled this way.

―¡Rápido! —les dijo—. Busquen al rey David y díganle que no se quede en los llanos del desierto esta noche. Es mejor que pasen de inmediato al otro lado, pues, de lo contrario, se expone a que lo maten, junto con todo el pueblo.

Por tanto enviad inmediatamente, y dad aviso á David, diciendo: No quedes esta noche en los campos del desierto, sino pasa luego el Jordán, porque el rey no sea consumido, y todo el pueblo que con él está.

Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.

Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, ‘Don’t lodge tonight at the fords of the wilderness, but by all means pass over, lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people who are with him.’”

Jonatán y Ajimaz se habían quedado en Enroguel, para que no se les viera entrar y salir de la ciudad. Se habían puesto de acuerdo para que una criada les llevara los mensajes que debían darle al rey David.

Y Jonathán y Ahimaas estaban junto á la fuente de Rogel, porque no podían ellos mostrarse viniendo á la ciudad; fué por tanto una criada, y dióles el aviso: y ellos fueron, y noticiáronlo al rey David.

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by En-rogel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel; and a female servant used to go and report to them, and they went and told King David; for they couldn’t risk being seen coming into the city.

Pero un muchacho vio que salían de Enroguel rumbo a donde estaba David, y se lo hizo saber a Absalón. Ellos, entonces, se fueron rápidamente a Bajurín, donde un hombre los escondió en un pozo en el patio.

Empero fueron vistos por un mozo, el cual dió cuenta á Absalom: sin embargo los dos se dieron priesa á caminar, y llegaron á casa de un hombre en Bahurim, que tenía un pozo en su patio, dentro del cual se metieron.

Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom: but they went both of them away quickly, and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, which had a well in his court; whither they went down.

But a boy saw them, and told Absalom. Then they both went away quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down there.

La esposa del hombre puso una tela sobre la boca del pozo y encima puso grano para que se secara al sol. De este modo nadie sospechó que ellos estaban allí.

Y tomando la mujer de la casa una manta, extendióla sobre la boca del pozo, y tendió sobre ella el grano trillado; y no se penetró el negocio.

And the woman took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth, and spread ground corn thereon; and the thing was not known.

Cuando Absalón y sus hombres llegaron y le preguntaron si había visto a Ajimaz y a Jonatán, ella dijo que habían cruzado el arroyo y se habían ido. Los buscaron, y al no encontrarlos regresaron a Jerusalén.

Llegando luego los criados de Absalom á la casa á la mujer, dijéronle: ¿Dónde están Ahimaas y Jonathán? Y la mujer les respondió: Ya han pasado el vado de las aguas. Y como ellos los buscaron y no los hallaron, volviéronse á Jerusalem.

And when Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They be gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Absalom’s servants came to the woman to the house; and they said, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” The woman said to them, “They have gone over the brook of water.” When they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

Entonces los dos hombres salieron del pozo y corrieron a encontrar al rey David. ―¡Rápido —le dijeron—, cruce el Jordán esta noche! Le contaron lo que había aconsejado Ajitofel para capturarlo y darle muerte.

Y después que ellos se hubieron ido, estotros salieron del pozo, y fuéronse, y dieron aviso al rey David; y dijéronle: Levantaos y daos priesa á pasar las aguas, porque Achitophel ha dado tal consejo contra vosotros.

And it came to pass, after they were departed, that they came up out of the well, and went and told king David, and said unto David, Arise, and pass quickly over the water: for thus hath Ahithophel counselled against you.

After they had departed, they came up out of the well and went and told King David; and they said to David, “Arise and pass quickly over the water; for thus has Ahithophel counseled against you.”

David y toda la gente que estaba con él cruzaron el río durante la noche y llegaron todos al otro lado del río, antes de la madrugada.

Entonces David se levantó, y todo el pueblo que con él estaba, y pasaron el Jordán antes que amaneciese; ni siquiera faltó uno que no pasase el Jordán.

Then David arose, and all the people that were with him, and they passed over Jordan: by the morning light there lacked not one of them that was not gone over Jordan.

Mientras tanto, Ajitofel, desacreditado públicamente porque Absalón no había aceptado su consejo, aparejó un burro, se fue a su casa en la ciudad, puso en orden sus asuntos, y se ahorcó. De esta manera murió y fue sepultado junto a su padre.

Y Achitophel, viendo que no se había puesto por obra su consejo, enalbardó su asno, y levantóse, y fuése á su casa en su ciudad; y después de disponer acerca de su casa, ahorcóse y murió, y fué sepultado en el sepulcro de su padre.

And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass, and arose, and gat him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home to his city, set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

David ya había llegado a Majanayin cuando Absalón, que había movilizado a todos los hombres de Israel, cruzaba el Jordán con ellos.

Y David llegó á Mahanaim, y Absalom pasó el Jordán con toda la gente de Israel.

Then David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

Absalón había designado a Amasá como jefe de su ejército, en lugar de Joab. (Amasá era primo segundo de Joab; su padre era Itrá, un ismaelita, y su madre era Abigaíl hija de Najás, la cual era la hermana de Sarvia, la madre de Joab).

Y Absalom constituyó á Amasa sobre el ejército en lugar de Joab, el cual Amasa fué hijo de un varón de Israel llamado Itra, el cual había entrado á Abigail hija de Naas, hermana de Sarvia, madre de Joab.

And Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab: which Amasa was a man’s son, whose name was Ithra an Israelite, that went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.

Absalom set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.

Absalón e Israel acamparon en la tierra de Galaad.

Y asentó campo Israel con Absalom en tierra de Galaad.

So Israel and Absalom pitched in the land of Gilead.

Cuando David llegó a Majanayin fue recibido cariñosamente por tres hombres: Sobí hijo de Najás, que era de la ciudad amonita de Rabá; Maquir hijo de Amiel, de Lo Debar, y Barzilay, que era un galaadita de Roguelín.

Y luego que David llegó á Mahanaim, Sobi hijo de Naas de Rabba de los hijos de Ammon, y Machîr hijo de Ammiel de Lodebar, y Barzillai Galaadita de Rogelim,

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

When David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

Le trajeron a David y a los que estaban con él camas para que durmieran, tazas y vasijas de barro. También les llevaron trigo, cebada, harina, trigo tostado, habas, lentejas, miel, mantequilla y queso. Hicieron esto porque pensaron que David y sus hombres estarían muy cansados, hambrientos y sedientos después de haber atravesado el desierto.

Trajeron á David y al pueblo que estaba con él, camas, y tazas, y vasijas de barro, y trigo, y cebada, y harina, y grano tostado, habas, lentejas, y garbanzos tostados,

Brought beds, and basons, and earthen vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched corn, and beans, and lentiles, and parched pulse,

Miel, manteca, ovejas, y quesos de vacas, para que comiesen; porque dijeron: Aquel pueblo está hambriento, y cansado, y tendrá sed en el desierto.

And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of kine, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people is hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.
