And David sent forth a third part of the people under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.

Le respondieron: No debes venir de ningún modo, pues aun cuando los enemigos nos hagan huir, no habrán logrado gran cosa; ni aunque muera la mitad de nosostros, no quedarán muy satisfechos; porque tú sólo vales por diez mil. Así mejor es que te quedes en la ciudad para poder socorrernos.
Mas el pueblo dijo: No saldrás; porque si nosotros huyéremos, no harán caso de nosotros; y aunque la mitad de nosotros muera, no harán caso de nosotros: mas tú ahora vales tanto como diez mil de nosotros. Será pues mejor que tú nos des ayuda desde la ciudad.
But the people answered, Thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that thou succour us out of the city.
But the people said, “You shall not go out, for if we flee away, they will not care for us, neither if half of us die, will they care for us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city.”
Les dijo el rey: Haré lo que bien os pareciere. Y se puso en la puerta de la ciudad, mientras iba desfilando el ejército en cuerpos de a cien y de a mil hombres.
Entonces el rey les dijo: Yo haré lo que bien os pareciere. Y púsose el rey á la entrada de la puerta, mientras salía todo el pueblo de ciento en ciento y de mil en mil.

Entonces dio a Joab, a Abisai y a Etai esta orden: Conservadme a mi hijo Absalón. Y oyó todo el ejército que el rey recomendaba a todos los caudillos que conservasen a Absalón.
Y el rey mandó á Joab y á Abisai y á Ittai, diciendo: Tratad benignamente por amor de mí al mozo Absalom. Y todo el pueblo oyó cuando dió el rey orden acerca de Absalom á todos los capitanes.

Y sucedió que huyendo Absalón montando en un mulo, se encontró con la gente de David, y como se metiese el mulo debajo de una frondosa y grande encina, se le enredó a Absalón la cabeza en dicho árbol, y pasando adelante el mulo en que iba montado, quedó colgado en el aire entre el cielo y la tierra.
Y encontróse Absalom con los siervos de David: é iba Absalom sobre un mulo, y el mulo se entró debajo de un espeso y grande alcornoque, y asiósele la cabeza al alcornoque, y quedó entre el cielo y la tierra; pues el mulo en que iba pasó delante.

Respondió Joab al hombre que le daba la noticia: Si lo viste, ¿por qué no lo has cosido con la tierra a puñaladas, y yo te habría dado diez ciclos de plata, y te habría honrado con un cinturón?
Y Joab respondió al hombre que le daba la nueva: Y viéndolo tú, ¿por qué no le heriste luego allí echándole á tierra? y sobre mí, que te hubiera dado diez siclos de plata, y un talabarte.
And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

Pero él replicó a Joab: Aunque pusieras en mi mano mil monedas de plata, no extendería yo mi mano contra el hijo del rey; pues que, oyéndolo nosotros, te mandó el rey a ti, y a Abisai, y a Etai diciendo: Conservadme a mi hijo Absalón.
Y el hombre dijo á Joab: Aunque me importara en mis manos mil siclos de plata, no extendiera yo mi mano contra el hijo del rey; porque nosotros lo oímos cuando el rey te mandó á ti y á Abisai y á Ittai, diciendo: Mirad que ninguno toque en el joven Absalom.
And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.
The man said to Joab, “Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn’t stretch out my hand against the king’s son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, ‘Beware that no one touch the young man Absalom.’
Y aun cuando me hubiera arrojado a hacer una acción tan temeraria, no se hubiera podido ocultar esto al rey; ¿Y me habrías tú entonces defendido?
Por otra parte, habría yo hecho traición contra mi vida (pues que al rey nada se le esconde), y tú mismo estarías en contra.
Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.
Otherwise, if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me.”
Dijo Joab: No será lo que dices; yo mismo lo he de atravesar a tu vista. Cogió, pues, tres dardos o rejones en su mano, y los clavó en el corazón de Absalón; y como todavía palpitase colgado de la encina,
Y respondió Joab: No es razón que yo te ruegue. Y tomando tres dardos en sus manos, hincólos en el corazón de Absalom, que aun estaba vivo en medio del alcornoque.
Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.
Then Joab said, “I’m not going to wait like this with you.” He took three darts in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart while he was still alive in the middle of the oak.
acudieron corriendo diez jóvenes escuderos de Joab, y lo acabaron de matar a cuchilladas.

And ten young men that bare Joab’s armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

Al punto Joab hizo tocar la trompeta, y contuvo al ejército para que no persiguiese a Israel que iba huyendo; queriendo perdonar a la muchedumbre.

Absalón, cuando aún vivía, se había erigido un monumento que se conserva en el Valle del Rey, porque decía: Ya que no tengo hijos, esto servirá para memoria de mi nombre. Dio, pues, su nombre a este monumento, el cual se llama aún hasta hoy día: La mano de Absalón.
Y había Absalom en su vida tomado y levantádose una columna, la cual está en el valle del rey; porque había dicho: Yo no tengo hijo que conserve la memoria de mi nombre. Y llamó aquella columna de su nombre: y así se llamó el Lugar de Absalom, hasta hoy.
Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king’s dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom’s place.

Dijo en seguida Aquímaas, hijo de Sadoc: Iré a dar la nueva al rey de que el Señor lo ha vengado y le ha hecho justicia contra sus enemigos.
Entonces Ahimaas hijo de Sadoc dijo: ¿Correré ahora, y daré las nuevas al rey de como Jehová ha defendido su causa de la mano de sus enemigos?
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me now run and carry the king news, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.”
Le respondió Joab: No serás tú el mensajero en esta ocasión, sino en otra; hoy no quiero que vayas tú a llevar las noticias; pues ha muerto el hijo del rey.
Y respondió Joab: Hoy no llevarás las nuevas: las llevarás otro día: no darás hoy la nueva, porque el hijo del rey es muerto.
And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king’s son is dead.
Joab said to him, “You must not be the bearer of news today, but you must carry news another day. But today you must carry no news, because the king’s son is dead.”
Y así dijo Joab a Cusi: Ve tú y refiere al rey lo que has visto. Cusi hizo una profunda reverencia a Joab, y echó a correr.
Y Joab dijo á Cusi: Ve tú, y di al rey lo que has visto. Y Cusi hizo reverencia á Joab, y corrió.
Then said Joab to Cushi, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushi bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.
Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen!” The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
Instó Aquímaas, hijo de Sadoc, nuevamente a Joab diciendo: ¿Qué inconveniente hay en que yo vaya corriendo tras de Cusi? Le respondió Joab: ¿Para qué quieres ir a correr, hijo mío? Serás el portador de una mala noticia.
Entonces Ahimaas hijo de Sadoc tornó á decir á Joab: Sea lo que fuere, yo correré ahora tras Cusi. Y Joab dijo: Hijo mío, ¿para qué has tú de correr, pues que no hallarás premio por las nuevas?
Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, “But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite.” Joab said, “Why do you want to run, my son, since you will have no reward for the news?”
¿Qué importa, replicó, que yo corra? Anda, pues, dijo Joab. Con esto Aquímaas, corriendo por un atajo se adelantó a Cusi.
Mas él respondió: Sea lo que fuere, yo correré. Entonces le dijo: Corre. Corrió pues Ahimaas por el camino de la llanura, y pasó delante de Cusi.
But howsoever, said he, let me run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the plain, and overran Cushi.
“But come what may,” he said, “I will run.” He said to him, “Run!” Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.
Estaba a la sazón David sentado entre las dos puertas de la ciudad. Y el centinela apostado encima de la puerta sobre la muralla, tendiendo la vista, vio un hombre solo que venía corriendo;
Estaba David á la sazón sentado entre las dos puertas; y el atalaya había ido al terrado de sobre la puerta en el muro, y alzando sus ojos, miró, y vió á uno que corría solo.
And David sat between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof over the gate unto the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.

y dio voces y se lo avisó al rey; el cual dijo: Si viene solo, trae buenas nuevas. Y mientras él apretaba el paso, y se acercaba más,
El atalaya dió luego voces, é hízolo saber al rey. Y el rey dijo: Si es solo, buenas nuevas trae. En tanto que él venía acercándose,
And the watchman cried, and told the king. And the king said, If he be alone, there is tidings in his mouth. And he came apace, and drew near.
The watchman shouted and told the king. The king said, “If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” He came closer and closer.
vio el centinela otro hombre que venía corriendo, y gritando desde lo alto, dijo: Me parece divisar otro hombre que viene corriendo solo. Dijo el rey: También ése trae buenas nuevas.
Vió el atalaya otro que corría; y dió voces el atalaya al portero, diciendo: He aquí otro hombre que corre solo. Y el rey dijo: Éste también es mensajero.
And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.
The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, “Behold, a man running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”
Añadió el atalaya: El modo de correr del primero me hace pensar que es Aquímaas, hijo de Sadoc. Ese es un buen sujeto, dijo el rey; sin duda que trae buenas noticias.
Y el atalaya volvió á decir: Paréceme el correr del primero como el correr de Ahimaas hijo de Sadoc. Y respondió el rey: Ese es hombre de bien, y viene con buena nueva.
And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.
The watchman said, “I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” The king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.”
En esto Aquímaas gritando de lejos, dijo al rey: Señor, Dios te guarde. Y postrándose en tierra delante del rey, y haciéndole profundo acatamiento, dijo: Bendito sea el Señor Dios tuyo que ha entregado en tus manos a los que se habían sublevado contra el rey, mi señor.
Entonces Ahimaas dijo en alta voz al rey: Paz. E inclinóse á tierra delante del rey, y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová Dios tuyo, que ha entregado á los hombres que habían levantado sus manos contra mi señor el rey.
And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.
Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, “All is well.” He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, “Blessed is the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king!”
Y dijo el rey: ¿Está vivo y sano mi hijo Absalón? Le respondió Aquímaas: Cuando Joab, tu siervo, me envió a ti, oh rey, vi que se había levantado un gran tumulto; no sé otra cosa.
Y el rey dijo: ¿El mozo Absalom tiene paz? Y Ahimaas respondió: Vi yo un grande alboroto cuando envió Joab al siervo del rey y á mí tu siervo; mas no sé qué era.
And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king’s servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.
The king said, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant, even me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I don’t know what it was.”
Le dijo el rey: Pasa y ponte aquí. Y apenas se apartó y se puso en su sitio,
Y el rey dijo: Pasa, y ponte allí. Y él pasó, y paróse.
And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.
The king said, “Come and stand here.” He came and stood still.
compareció Cusi, y al llegar dijo: ¡Albricias, rey señor mío!, porque el Señor ha sentenciado hoy a tu favor contra el poder de todos los que se rebelaron contra ti.
Y luego vino Cusi, y dijo: Reciba nueva mi señor el rey, que hoy Jehová ha defendido tu causa de la mano de todos los que se habían levantado contra ti.
And, behold, Cushi came; and Cushi said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.
Behold, the Cushite came. The Cushite said, “Good news for my lord the king, for the LORD has avenged you today of all those who rose up against you.”
Mas el rey preguntó a Cusi: ¿Está vivo y sano mi hijo Absalón? Le respondió Cusi: Tengan la suerte de ese joven los enemigos del rey, mi señor, y cuántos se levantaren contra él para dañarle.
El rey entonces dijo á Cusi: ¿El mozo Absalom tiene paz? Y Cusi respondió: Como aquel mozo sean los enemigos de mi señor el rey, y todos los que se levantan contra ti para mal.
And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.
The king said to the Cushite, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” The Cushite answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is.”
Entonces el rey, lleno de tristeza, subió a la torre o cuarto que estaba sobre la puerta, y se echó a llorar, diciendo mientras subía: ¡Hijo mío Absalón! ¡Absalón, hijo mío! ¡Quién me diera, Absalón hijo mío, que yo muriera por ti! ¡Oh hijo mío Absalón!
Entonces el rey se turbó, y subióse á la sala de la puerta, y lloró; y yendo, decía así: ¡Hijo mío Absalom, hijo mío, hijo mío Absalom! ¡Quién me diera que muriera yo en lugar de ti, Absalom, hijo mío, hijo mío!
And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
